This Fabulous Feminist Wedding at Ace Prop House + Studio Broke Tradition in Style and Sparkles

October 15, 2019 | brooke

Steph and Bobby broke tradition in the most awesome of ways for their funky and feminine Ace Prop House + Studios wedding in Miami, Florida. Fun fact: The couple hired all woman-owned businesses as their vendors. Talk about a rockstar move! The Creatives Loft is behind the planning of this day, and we’re in awe with how they made an already fun venue even cooler with food trucks, disco balls, and Maison Francis floral creations. Steph looked like an elegant disco queen in her shimmery, champagne colored (no white dress here!) Chosen by One Day gown and retro inspired white Ferragamo booties. Scroll on to see how the all female A-team pulled off a most incredible day and how Fox & Film Photography documented it with expertise and creativity. We can’t wait for you to get inspired by every photo!

I had been looking around for bridal boots with a statement heel, but it was really tough to find white boots in the fall/winter season. I was stalking my shoes online just for inspo, but they were an outrageously expensive pipe dream. However, I did some black Friday and cyber Monday magic combined with two extra email promotions they came out to nearly 70% off. Shoes are definitely worth the splurge because you can totally wear them again!

Josie and Alex [Fox + Film Photography] are on it! It’s so clear that they’ve done this millions of times. They are professional, helpful, and so talented. One minute Josie is snapping candids, the next minute she’s helping you with your bustle. They were the first vendors we hired because their work really stood out and they were so fun and easy to communicate with. It just felt like we had extra friends in the room documenting the most meaningful day of our lives like it was no big deal.

We didn’t need much in the way of flowers and Sandrine (Maison Francis) didn’t require a minimum spend from us, which other florists did. She was so helpful and honest, it felt like working with a good friend.

Wedding planning advice from the bride: My sleeper advice is to take up meditation. It helps slow down time on a day that everyone says goes by in the blink of an eye. I ate up every single second and took nothing for granted; I saw every guest, savored every detail, and followed every whim in the present moment. I even got in a quick little session right before the ceremony began. I heard the excited murmur of guests echoing around the room, picked out distinct voices and conversations of loved ones, all of it underscored by the music we carefully selected weeks before, and I just thought “Woah. This is what my wedding sounds like.”

Our ceremony was led by a woman, the groom had an entrance just as grand as the bride, and no one was given away. I didn’t wear a white dress, and we did away with traditional ceremony lingo like “man and wife” and “you may now kiss the bride” (just because we’re married doesn’t mean you may kiss the bride without her consent, honey!). This carried over to our vendor team as we sought to exclusively hire and support women owned businesses. #bigfatfeministwedding

We wanted every part of the ceremony to be purposeful and represent us as a couple – from the music, to the readings, to our own personalized vows. A month before the wedding, our officiant prompted Bobby and I with several questions that we kept private until she read them during our ceremony. It was a funny to hear the same story told from two different perspectives, and even funnier when we’d end up saying the exact same thing.

We did a lot of in-person scouting off the beaten path for an industrial warehouse with outdoor space, but naturally found our winner via Instagram. Ace Props Studio is photo/video studio, prop warehouse, AND a bar/lounge for events (win win win!). We saw other similar spaces, but there was a need to fill the entire space with furniture and decor to create a vibe. Ace was already set up with completely unique and curated decor and furniture, as well as thousands of cool things in back stock for our planner to play with. As an actor myself, it felt totally appropriate and unique to our story to get married in a prop shop.

Adriana, of The Creative’s Loft, is full of amazing and unique ideas, and her execution is superb. She has an incredible eye for design and detail. Working closely with a planner (not just a day/month coordinator) was a total life saver because by the time our wedding day came around, it was like her and I were sharing a brain – she knew what we needed before we even knew.

In liue of live music during cocktail hour, we went for a live painter. She recreated a photo from our engagement session. Investments like this are great because it’s cool in the moment, and we get to keep it forever.

We started dating as kids, through long distance, different cities, states and even countries at one point. It felt as though we beat the odds and this was a once in a lifetime opportunity to bring together the friends and family who have been there for us over the last ten years and show them we’ve made it. It was pure celebration – a disco loving, crazy dancing, all in, full out celebration. Our DJ was so fierce! She made our wedding a non-stop party and plays the drums live while she spins. It’s incredible and totally unique. LOVE HER!

Bohemian Chic Mountain Wedding at Devil’s Thumb Ranch

October 14, 2019 | brooke

Calling all boho babes! Kellie and Tommy’s wedding at Devil’s Thumb Ranch showcased the beauty of Colorado and added a glamorous, rustic twist to traditional bohemian chic style. Calluna Events planned this couple’s day and assembled the most amazing team of vendors to pull it all off! Project Floral infused lots of greenery and, our favorite, pampas grass with touches of simple white roses that added a little romance to the wooden altar at Devil’s Thumb Ranch’s ceremony site. The couple loved that their family and friends could all stay on-property at the resort — and, we must note that their wedding party looked top-notch dressed in all black with the girls dresses custom made by designer Kathryn Wen and the guys in Alain Dupetit. We are hopelessly in love with every moment of Kellie and Tommy’s day and the way Lindsey Boluyt captured it all!

The Couple:

Kellie & Tommy

The Wedding:

Devil’s Thumb Ranch, Tabernash, Colorado

Wedding planning advice from the groom: Start the day with a run or some type of short workout. Really helps to get the blood pumping! Eat a good, healthy, big breakfast & have some little snacks throughout the day. Take a couple minutes after the ceremony where it’s you two only, no wedding planner, no photographer, and just talk & express how you’re feeling.

Wedding planning advice from the bride: Stay organized, and have fun with the process! This should be the most exciting day, besides having children, so don’t get overwhelmed with the mundane and constant choices that you need to make. They will be never ending, but work as a team, your partner. Learn how to delegate tasks and to let go of things that aren’t important to you. For me, it was the logistics like coordinating the transportation, wedding bags for the guests, band, wood guest book that was beetle kill would with our wolf dog wedding emblem, etc. I focused on the decor and food mainly.

I always knew I wanted my hair down and a fit and flare dress that was flattering. My bridesmaids wore my best friends new line, called Kathryn Wen, that does custom dresses for bridesmaids.

The atmosphere of Devil’s Thumb Ranch was absolutely breathtaking, as it sits on the bottom of the vista and is surrounded by a beautiful mountain range and has horses in the background with a criss cross boho wood backdrop. Also, having everyone staying at the location was nice for us to see people through out the weekend so that we could chat with everyone and have little moments rather than feeling overwhelmed on our big day.

Lindsey was such a dream to work with through out the entire process. She arrived in a grounded calm yet directive state that allowed all of us to feel at ease through out the day. My favorite photo is the one of us walking away because it solidifies us as a couple that will always lean on each other in the hardest of times, and be together enjoying each others company in the most joyful times.

Our table numbers were actual cities that we had traveled together (London, Barcelona, Prague, Amsterdam, Lincoln, NE, Cabo San Lucas, Vail, Sinapore, Thailand, Bali, Maui, Hawaii, etc.).

Blush and Gold Vintage-Inspired Ipswitch Wedding at The Crane Estate

October 13, 2019 | brooke

Ashley and Tim are the quintessential elegant couple who wanted every detail of their wedding at The Crane Estate to emit those classy, vintage vibes! Along with the help of Katydyd Events, we think they totally pulled it off! We’re totally loving how Twig & Briar made Ashley’s vision come to life — creating garden-inspired, lush, and romantic florals in tones of blush, mauve, and taupe. The couple purchased all of the antique mirrors by themselves and adorned each with elegant gold calligraphy script from Letter and Kate. Their mirror table numbers were a DIY success! We can’t wait for you to swoon over every dreamy photo Anna Elizabeth Photography captured of this classic, vintage inspired day at The Crane Estate!

The Couple:

Ashley & Tim

The Wedding:

The Crane Estate, Ipswich, Massachusetts

About the bride’s favorite photos from their wedding: This is SO tough to answer because we love all of them! I think it would have to be one of our first look photos. There is one where you can see the complete shock and excitement on Tim’s face, and it just brings me back to that moment every time I see it.

We wanted to be able to look back on the day and feel classic and timeless. I always knew I wanted a long sleeve dress that was backless or had an illusion back. I used pins in my hair that my mother ordered for me, and earrings that I got from Olive & Piper that went really well together.

We were looking for a venue that had a vintage feel and was also by the ocean. We only looked at one other venue, and we knew right away The Crane Estate was the one for us. Having a place to get married that had such a beautiful ceremony spot was amazing. There really is no other way to go besides vintage with a venue like the one we chose. We wanted to feel classic and timeless. I know looking back even 50 years from now, we will look at these photos and still love everything about that day.

The bridesmaids outfits were something I really thought long and hard about. I don’t love the idea of traditional bridesmaids dresses. They are typically very expensive, don’t fit well, and are worn only one time. I wanted them to wear something they could potentially wear again, had a vintage feel, and that could look great on everyone. I LOVED the idea of a top and a skirt instead of a dress. One of my bridesmaids suggested a belt a few days before the wedding and it was the perfect addition that tied their outfits together.

Our wedding planner Katie made planning the wedding a breeze. We both agree that it was the most well spent money of our entire wedding. She completely understood our vision, and recommended vendors that she knew would be perfect for us. We felt almost zero stress during the planning process, and were really able to enjoy all aspects of the day knowing that she would make everything come together seamlessly.

We found some gold mirrors (Facebook marketplace score), and hired someone to do calligraphy on them. They could not have come out better. We also had custom place cards made (ordered off Etsy). We then ordered a custom wax seal and attached the place cards with gold wax to one of the mirrors. It was a joint project (Tim did the wax seals, and I attached everything to the mirror) that was quite time consuming, but we were so pleased with the way it came out!
