This Fall Kiawah River Wedding was Planned in Four Weeks

November 3, 2020 | riley

One look at Emilia and Noah’s Kiawah River wedding, and you’d have no idea that they planned it in just four weeks. With the help of planner Hill and Co. Creative, the couple planned a day full of warm fall colors, Charleston countryside views, stunning florals from Roadside Blooms, and a whole lot of love.

We love Emilia’s bold laced LoveShackFancy dress that she ordered online. It just goes to show that wedding dress shopping doesn’t have to be complicated! Oh, and did we mention that the couple threw on cowboy hats and jean jackets for a sunset portrait session? Junebug member Billie Jo and Jeremy Photography captured it perfectly, and we can’t get enough.

Although we could go on about the simple rustic vibes of the day, we love what their planners over at Hill and Co. Creative had to say:

Hill and Co. Creative On The Day

Emilia and Noah met through their church in early 2019. Although neither one of them was looking for a relationship at the time, they both realized they could not deny their connection and started dating in April. Emilia and Noah both felt a call to be missionaries, and an opportunity arose in early 2020. However, it would require them to be husband and wife to be a part of the program. Noah knew Emilia was ‘the one’ so he proposed to her in August. The young couple came to Hill & Co. Creative in the early fall for their wedding planning needs. In less than two weeks, we made it possible for Noah and Emilia to get married under the oaks at Kiawah River on October 12th, 2019. The couple incorporated a ceremonial foot washing and enjoyed worship opportunities with their guests. The day was exactly what Emilia and Noah had dreamed of and we could not have done it without all of the vendors who came together so quickly.

Autumn Country Vibes For Their Kiawah River Wedding

In just four weeks, Noah and I–with lots of help from Hill & Co. Creative–styled a wedding that touched on warm autumn colors and understated low-country beauty. We wanted the simplicities of the marshland, muted terracotta, gold and blush hues, heaps of natural wood, and whimsical flowers to be juxtaposed with the extravagance of the union God was forming between us that day. Most of the design inspiration was lead by the Holy Spirit and Pinterest.

Wedding Advice From The Bride

Don’t overthink it! No one remembers the chairs, table settings, or your color scheme at the end of the day—they will remember the feeling. Craft your day around the love you share, and it will be absolutely breathtaking.

Flower-Filled La Jolla Wedding at Darlington House

November 2, 2020 | riley

Lauren and Alex’s flower-filled La Jolla wedding at Darlington House is proof that weddings can break every tradition from the location to your color palette. Although the wedding was in February, the couple opted for bright tropical hues, and it turned out better than imagined. With the help of planner Plan Prep Party, the couple turned the historic home into a colorful wonderland thanks to the abundance of flowers arranged by Fox and Flora and their floral linens.

The two covered their wedding in a custom escalator logo–their last names combined are “escolater”–created by LovelyBones Paperie, and we can’t get over how unique it is. From corn hole to cocktail “graffiti” to a custom cake topper—it was everywhere. Talk about making your wedding your own!

We’re so glad that Junebug member Kami Olavarria was there to capture every personalized detail of their day from the simple yet sentimental bridal fashion to the ceremony featuring the couple’s furry friend.

Bridal Fashion Featuring Lace From Mom’s Mantilla

My veil was custom-made using the lace from my mom’s mantilla that she wore when she got married in the 70s. I updated it to have more length in the same mantilla-veil style. If I didn’t have my mom’s lace, I probably would have considered no veil, but I’m glad I had one, so it felt more “bridal.” I’ve never liked poofy dresses, and I even remember wearing a sleek ivory dress for communion. Once I found Sarah Seven, I knew it was for me. The dress’s construction felt like a work of art, and there was something elegant about how minimalistic it was that I loved.

Why The Darlington House

We were looking at places that had an outdoor area and didn’t feel like hosting in a ballroom. We chose Darlington House because it felt like we had a party in someone’s mansion backyard.

Wedding Advice From The Bride: Make a Wedding Email

Having a separate wedding email helped so that multiple people could have access to information. I also had a separate Instagram account I used to follow a million wedding accounts which helped me access the information when useful, but shut it off when feeling overwhelmed. I also dabbled in the subreddits “r/weddingplanning” and “r/weddingswap,” where strangers are very helpful!

Bright Tropical Colors For A Winter Wedding

I had thought I wanted a simple palette with some tropical elements since we were getting married in the “winter” in California. But the more I looked at simple palettes and bouquets, the more I felt they were repetitive and not me. Slowly I ventured into more bright bouquets with a mix of textures. They felt more “like me” even though it wasn’t necessarily “winter colors” for February. I’ve always been a big fan of coral—something about how it feels tropical and classy. My colors everywhere else in life are teal and mint. I wanted something I could bounce those colors off of here and there but not be overwhelmed because they can come off pretty strong. In the end, I ended up with summery colors and it felt right.

A Custom Wedding Logo

Our last names are Escobar and Slater and when combined it is “Escolaters,” so we ran with that. Mycalia at LovelyBones Paperie–who designed our save the dates–created an “escolater” logo for us and I got it printed everywhere. Corn hole covers and bean bags, cocktail “graffiti,” the cake topper, a wax seal for envelopes, a sticker on our favors, printed on our menus–it was a lot but felt like a special touch.

Rustic Fall Backyard Wedding in Manitoba

November 1, 2020 | riley

Now that fall is in full swing, we cannot get enough of cozy backyard weddings. So, when we saw Georgia and Daniel’s fall backyard wedding in Manitoba, our hearts went pitter-patter with joy. After years of envisioning her special day in her family’s forest, Georgia’s dream came true.

With the help of coordinator Opal & Dot, the two held a rainy ceremony amongst the trees, followed by a reception full of DIY touches, dark autumnal colors, and bonfires. While the photos beautifully captured by Ariana Tennyson do plenty of talking, we love what Lauren Wiebe from Stone House Creative–the company who did the florals–added about the day!

Stonehouse Creative’s Take On The Day

The location was a private forest owned by Georgia’s family just outside of Steinbach. They have enjoyed this property for over twenty years and created many unforgettable memories there together. For over a decade, there was a particular row of trees that Georgia wanted to use to create a wedding aisle–and it happened! This was extremely special for Georgia and Dan, as they both love the outdoors and anything adventurous.

Georgia and her grandfather were very close and worked together for a whole summer, preparing the forest for the wedding. They made trails, cut down trees, trimmed branches, and cleared areas. A week before the wedding, he passed away from lung cancer. This was disheartening, but Georgia and Dan were so incredibly glad that her grandfather had the chance to get to know the man she was marrying. They sure missed him at the wedding!

The Couple:

Georgia and Daniel

The Wedding:

Steinbach, Manitoba

Why A Fall Backyard Wedding

Since I was a young girl, I dreamed of walking down a wedding aisle created by a beautiful row of trees in the middle of our family forest. We both love the outdoors, and it was incredibly meaningful for us to get married outside, even if there were moments of rain.

Rainy Dreamy Wedding Vibes

It was a romantic, dreamy, forest wedding in the rain. Guests came with their umbrellas, and we all embraced the weather. There was a little sunshine, a little rain, and a lot of laughter and love. The ceremony took place at 4:30 in the afternoon, and the string quartet filled the air with beautiful melodies. There were happy tears, precious moments, and lovely vows. The ceremony proceeded as if there was no rain at all. There were showers of blessings on this special day, and the beauty of the rain brought out dark colors and highlighted the smell of the trees. The weather contributed a moody, cozy vibe.

Including Family and Friends In The Planning

We wanted our guests to have the best time, and we wanted to serve them as best as we could. We found so much joy in having this perspective! Many people preach, “It’s your day, do what you want,” and although there is some truth to that, it’s so easy to let that mindset take over–which makes the day entirely self-focused. In reality, so many people are putting in the effort to attend the wedding and help you throughout the day. We wanted to be considerate to the people we love the most. I tried to be open to people’s ideas and wanted to consider them instead of just shutting them down right away. I wanted to be a bride known for being beautiful on the inside, not just the outside!

DIY Touches

Every detail was well-thought-out–the place cards were made by hand and then glued to a pinecone. All the pinecones had been collected in the forest over the past five years. We also had a stamp made, and I stamped about 400 paper cups for the coffee. Everything had small details and significant meaning to it.
