Katie and John said “I do” as their closest family and friends gathered at Grand Bahia Principe in an intimate beach ceremony. Their Jamaican destination wedding was equal parts timeless and bohemian with simple styling and the gorgeous landscape of sea and sky behind them. Jennifer Moher Photography captured gorgeously artistic portraits of the newlyweds as they ventured down to the shore to share their first moments as husband and wife before releasing glowing lanterns into the night.
Lighting the lanterns with our guests was a wonderful moment. It was a perfectly beautiful night on the beach. Watching them all floating up and out into the sky was an intimate moment we all enjoyed doing together.
A special thanks to Jennifer Moher Photography for sharing a glimpse into Katie and John’s beautiful Jamaican destination wedding. For more beach wedding inspiration from Jennifer Moher, check out Andre and Wayne’s tropical wedding in Grenada.
Their love of music brought them together, so what more perfect way to celebrate their wedding than with a Woodstock-inspired celebration. Complete with VIP badges, festival survival kit favors, and even a silent disco, Abi and Dan committed to their theme and threw a party their guests will always remember. Steve Gerrard masterfully photographed the day, capturing the essence of the celebration: colorful and impossibly cool.
We went for a festival themed wedding as we’re both massively in to music. It was important to us that the day was relaxed, fun and basically represented what we’re about. The boys wore relaxed, slim fitting suits that complimented the brighter blue suit that Dan had specifically tailored. I wore a couture dress made in England and also had the bridesmaids dresses made – they were grey with a simple lace band and then they wore electric blue shoes to add a flash of colour. We had lots of colourful ribbons decorating the chairs and the outdoor area and had a company create an Alice in Wonderland inspired ‘Rabbit Hole’ where we had a silent disco at night. All the finishing touches were really important to us and we put a lot of thought and effort in to everything and were very lucky to have some amazing friends and family to help.
The Moments:
One of our favourite moments was being sat at the top table watching all our guests chatting, laughing, eating, drinking and generally having a good time. You’re never going to get all the people you love and care for together again like that and it was really special. However, the silent disco was pretty amazing – Dan‘s 90 year old grandad was even joining in. It brought the whole party together at night and there are some really funny photos from that part.
The Couple Recommends:
Steve Gerrard was unbelievable – we had an engagement shoot with him so we could get to know how he works. He really captured the wedding and is so much fun. We now count him as a good friend.
Karen from Darby & Joan was also phenomenal – she was my sanity and helped us no end to run through ideas and work out practicalities. Truly wonderful to work with and all round lovely.
Temperatures are starting to heat up as we enter spring here in The States, but things really got steamy during this Hawaiian wedding inspiration shoot on Ironwoods Beach! Model Joy looked absolutely breathtaking in the off-the-shoulder Claire Pettibone gown and sprinkled with gold Flash Tattoos as she and real-life-beau Mark embraced in the sand and sea. Wendy Laurel Photography designed and captured the gorgeous day, and we couldn’t be more in love with the romantic pink, white, and gold table setting she arranged in the middle of the beach. The crochet table runner and loose flower petals made for a breezy, beachy look you’ll want to recreate for your own Hawaiian wedding!
Here’s a little behind-the-scenes insight from photographer Wendy Laurel:
Joy and Mark have been together for a few years and are head-over-heels in love. They moved to Maui from Maine and love the warm weather and beach lifestyle. We collaborated for a styled shoot that celebrated the salt, sand, and sea. Lots of pink and gold went well with Joy’s complexion and the golden sand and sun of the beach in the late afternoon.
