Baby Blue Michigan Wedding on an Apple Orchard

Baby blue is widely regarded as a color that demonstrates serenity and stability, so it’s no surprise that this hue has totally taken off in the wedding industry! Erin and Randy held their effortlessly gorgeous Michigan wedding at Erin’s grandparents’ apple orchard, which lent down-to-earth and elegant vibes to the couple’s day. Special touches like a personalized ceremony, vintage décor, and fun DIY projects all over the orchard allowed Erin and Randy to express their love to their guests. We love how photographer Natalie Puls documented Erin and Randy’s day!

The Couple:

Erin and Randy

The Wedding:

Price’s Orchard, Newport, Michigan

As I was looking for a venue in the suburbs of Chicago, I was getting incredibly stressed. Nothing seemed right and everything was out of our price range. I remember calling Randy and getting emotional saying “Why spend the money if it isn’t even something we like?” The most memorable place to me was my grandparents’ apple orchard in Michigan. When I suggested it to my Dad he thought it was out of the question. The orchard is a working farm. It’s not a cute-sy Pinterest farm; it’s a tractor shed and pile of horse manure farm. However, by the grace of God, I got the whole family on board and it was perfect.

The most memorable moment of our day was right as I saw Randy during our first look. It was the moment when I knew our stress was gone and we were so excited to get married and see all of our family and friends!

We really wanted a celebration with our family and friends (who are all very important to us), and since most of our guests had to travel, we wanted our wedding to be enjoyable, so we made sure there was plenty to eat, drink, and do! But we also wanted to make sure that the wedding was distinctly ours. With so much access to ideas from other weddings and since a lot of our decorations were recycled, we tried to add special touches to make our day more personal to us.

Personalizing the ceremony was of utmost importance to us. A marriage can’t be done alone. We had the example of both of our parents’ marriages and the support of friends. We wanted to include them and also intertwine our beliefs into the ceremony. So my mom sang one of our favorite hymns, our parents prayed over us (our ‘unity candle’), we had a huge bridal party that took communion with us, and we wrote our own vows (Randy is a writer and I still cry when I reread his vows).

Our advice: Delegate. Perhaps you are like me: a type B person trying to be a type A wedding planner. Ask for help. Your mom wants to be a part of your day. Include the people you love so you don’t start crying the day before the wedding, because trust me, that’s no fun.

Our photographer Natalie was great. Our family loved her and I got so many compliments about her. They said that she had the uncanny ability to appear during a perfect candid moment. Natalie was down-to-earth, and that’s exactly how I wanted my wedding and my wedding photos to feel.

When it comes to edgy sweetheart sessions, it doesn’t get much cooler than this couple’s motorcycle ride around Dorena Lake! Sarah and Beau let their hip everyday style speak for itself by donning rolled-up band tees, tons of worn denim, and a trendy variety of hats. From the couple’s loving side glances to their fits of laughter next to the gorgeousness of their Oregon surroundings, we love the totally natural vibes that Dawn Photography captured in this sweetheart shoot!

From the photographer: Sarah & Beau are not like any other couple I’ve shot with before. They kept “reminding” me that they are as awkward as they get. I could say the complete opposite! These two are made for each other. They love to goof off, tease each other, laugh with each other and love on each other. Their love is so playful and passionate. What an amazing blessing to photograph such an epic love.

This Alabama Farm Wedding is Country Chic Like You’ve Never Seen Before

September 10, 2016 | Junebug Weddings

destination-wedding-photographer

After an intimate ceremony in NYC, Jordan and Philip celebrated with their extended friends and family at an Alabama farm wedding! The couple’s Rolling Oaks Farm wedding balanced Southern details like Jordan’s family grit recipe with chic French accents like champagne flown over by Philip’s parents. We think Jordan’s effortlessly elegant Shareen Bridal gown perfectly reflects her wedding’s country chic vibes! Photographer Marcos Sanchez beautifully captured the couple’s breathtaking portraits and rustic reception details.

The Couple:

Jordan and Philip

The Wedding:

Rolling Oaks Farm, Newville, Alabama

campground-wedding

After a first, small ceremony for close family and friends in New York City, we wanted our wedding in Alabama to be focused on the many loved ones who came to celebrate with us – the wedding wouldn’t have been complete without them so we wanted them to fully experience the hospitality of the South!

folk-wedding

We wanted a venue that would capture the Alabama that Jordan grew up in – beautiful, easy going, and fun. We looked and looked and just when we thought we weren’t going to find the right place, we stumbled across Rolling Oaks Farm, just 5 minutes from Jordan‘s grandparents’ house! It had everything – a functioning organic farm (hogs and guinea fowl!); a big classic red barn for the reception; a bandstand and outdoor dancing area; and the perfect spot overlooking the pond for a ceremony, with a field of blooming clover. We knew immediately what we would be able to do with the space.

We were connected with our photographer Marcos 9 months before the wedding when he came to New York and shot engagement photos for us. Marcos brought his friend Pablo along for the ride, and we were so delighted at their good-natured professionalism and hard work. They spent the days leading up to the wedding scouting out areas – finding spots that even Jordan didn’t know of! We were impressed with their ability to find intimate moments in unexpected settings, and they were quick to grasp our vision for the event, and the kinds of photos we wanted to remember it by. They’re the best!

We went for country chic, combining the best of Alabama and France with things like Jordan‘s family grits, and champagne brought over by Philip‘s parents. We knew the venue would bring vibrant country colors so we decided to complement that with a subtle, sophisticated palette: nude/soft pinks (bride side) and dark navy/light grays (groom side). In addition, sister duo Lauren and Vanessa Guzman (our planner and florist) spent 3 days roaming the lands and gardens in the area to dress up the rustic space – what they added to the event was breath-taking.

All of the people that made our day happen were amazing. From our photographers who traveled from Spain, the bridal designer in NYC, to our event planner and florists from NYC, Atlanta and Portland, to the local catering and soulful band that carried us through the night…we were really surrounded by the most incredible talent. We loved everyone, including all the friends and family who stepped-up and helped us make the event so memorable.
