This Planet Bluegrass Wedding is Pure Colorado Magic

July 14, 2017 | Junebug Weddings

It’s hard to imagine anything more romantic than Brittany and Todd’s Planet Bluegrass wedding amid the Cottonwood trees and wildflower fields of Colorado. Greenery was a huge part of the couple’s natural and elegant design. Their ceremony, which took place in a secluded redrock canyon near the North St. Vrain river, featured one of the coolest greenery hoop backdrops we’ve seen and their reception was overflowing with greenery runners, centerpieces, and even cake toppers! The couple also made special guide books with their favorite activities and restaurants to encourage all of their guests to explore the area. Every detail was Colorado rustic elegance at its finest, and we couldn’t be happier that Teale Photography and videographers Matt + Jess captured it all in stunning detail for us all to enjoy over and over again.

Planet Bluegrass, Lyons, Colorado

Some couples feel like a wedding is just about them. But, for us, it was really about sharing the day with all the people we love. We were hyper-conscious about giving our family and friends a great party and helping them feel part of everything. I’ve always felt like the couple already has all this love and magic. Maybe that’s one reason weddings are so public? So the couple can sprinkle some of that love around to the people who’ve meant so much to them throughout the years.

Todd and I have been together a long time (7 years), and we’ve changed so much already. So we wanted an honest ceremony that really honored all that change. Instead of freezing time and trying to keep everything exactly how it is right now, we vowed to keep changing, learning, and growing. We also promised to love every new iteration of the other person down the road.

We worked with our minister to really personalize the metaphors she strung throughout the ceremony. The ceremony was held in front of a river that runs down from the Rockies. So when we first met with her, we discussed a lovely little river allegory to tie everything together. She did a wonderful job talking about how the river will take our marriage to unexpected places and moments out of our control. But it’s our job to trust the inevitable flow of things to pull us through and on our journey together. When you get engaged, everybody’s always asking about your colors. But I think more people should be asking about your metaphors!

Most of our guests were from out of town. So it was important to us to encourage people to explore Boulder. My husband designed this awesome guide book that included hikes, restaurants, and bars around Boulder, with little side-notes about what they meant to us.

Our wedding band was incredible. They had such a commanding presence, I remember looking around and realizing every single guest was on the dance floor. Every one. Then, at the end of the night, the band came back on for an encore and played Joe Cocker’s “With a Little Help from my Friends” (which was definitely not one of our requests). Suddenly, there was a giant hugging circle. Aunts, uncles, and our friends from college were all swaying together in one mushy clump. It’s hard to describe without sounding painfully cheesy, but people were crying and it was straight-up amazing.

Copper-Inspired Orange County Wedding at The Vintage Rose

July 13, 2017 | Junebug Weddings

Lauren and Fernando’s wedding combined copper accents with rustic shabby chic vibes for wonderfully vintage décor that had their guests smiling all day! The couple’s wedding at The Vintage Rose began with one of the most gorgeous first look scenes we’ve ever laid eyes on: the bride and groom were surrounded by unbelievably lush white blooms and shared a serene moment together before their big day. Photography team The Portos captured every moment of Lauren and Fernando’s day beautifully, from their classic red rose floral design by Flower Allie to the bride’s beautiful boho style!

The Couple:

Lauren and Fernando

The Wedding:

The Vintage Rose, Orange County, California

What was most important for us in planning our wedding was to be personal with our details. The decor, our engagement photos spread around the cocktail room, the music the flow from being romantic to lit. We wanted our wedding to represent us where people would walk in and think, “This is so Lauren and Fernando!”

I wanted a bohemian style lace dress! I didn’t want something over the top or too princess like. I wanted something that was simple, elegant with lots of lace! Something I was going to be comfortable in all day and dance in and didn’t need to fidget with! Found the perfect dress by Grace Loves Lace! I’m not one for jewelry so the only accessories was a lace ribbon to compliment my waist and a floral hair piece, that was it, and that’s all I needed with my red lips!

The bridesmaids got a dress from Lulu’s which is affordable and easy to exchange for sizes or colors. They had a convertible dress which can be tied in different ways so all of them felt comfortable and flattering to their body type!

The groomsmen and groom ordered their outfits from ASOS. We kept it casual and comfortable. Why have the groomsmen buy a jacket when it’s gonna be worn for only a few hours?

We personalized our ceremony with the songs we choose for our ceremony which also brought more to the style and vibe of our wedding. We also choose Lauren‘s mother and step-father who already were licensed to marry us because they have been a big part of our growth in our relationship. May not be normal but it made our ceremony more special and personal in many ways. I take pride that my own mother married me.

Our advice: Make sure what you’re looking for is what you want, vendors, wedding dress etc. But start as soon as you can. You want to enjoy your engagement and enjoy the planning process and have some time to rest before the big day and be excited with all you accomplished. Not stress on last minutes details, which by the way the little details are important. And if you don’t have a wedding planner, it would be in your best interest to at least have a day-of coordinator. I don’t know what we would have done without our day-of coordinator! She made Jennifer Lopez in the movie Wedding Planner look bad!

I also made the guest book which I wood burned a leafless tree on a large cork board and cut it out to fit the frame I choose. Then got paper puncher shaped of a leaf and small map pins so they would sign the leaf and pin it where ever they’d like on the tree.

Processional: The Girl by City And Colour
Bridal Processional: And If My Heart Should Somehow Stop by James Vincent McMorrow
Recessional: There are two parts of the song The Girl by City And Colour. The first part was acoustic, the second part becomes way more upbeat. We all walked back down the aisle with the second upbeat part of the song.
First Dance: We love to dance, so we did something that’s not traditional! We did our first dance last because we wanted to open up the dance floor. We slow danced to Higher Love by James Vincent McMorrow and then mixed after One Dance by Drake!

One thing Fernando and I were excited about was the money dance. We wanted a fun and creative way to do the money dance so we came up with a rival money dance! Fernando is a huge fan of the 49’ers and Lauren grew up in Seattle. So when the money dance came we threw on our big sports jacket where the people got to pin the money on the jackets! Do we need to announce who won? Go Seahawks!
