This Villa Le Piazzole Wedding is Quintessentially Tuscan

July 27, 2017 | Junebug Weddings

Emily and Kale’s intimate destination wedding had all the makings of a quintessential Tuscan party: gorgeous views over the Italian countryside, endlessly romantic moments, and a stunning Italian meal under the stars. The Canadian couple’s Villa Le Piazzole wedding was decorated with a natural greenery floral design, accents colors of blush and lavender, and terracotta pots filled with rosemary plants to emphasize Tuscany’s natural beauty. Photographer duo Shari + Mike documented every moment of Emily and Kale’s wedding beautifully, including the impromptu wedding day serenade they received from a traveling a’cappella group!

The Couple:

Emily and Kale

The Wedding:

Villa Le Piazzole, Tuscany, Italy

We wanted our guests to have an experience, something that they would remember and talk about for years to come. With that in mind we started thinking of what we thought our guests would enjoy the most and decided food and a great party needed to be a priority. Armed with our goals we started the search and we landed on Italy for 4 days in a Villa we could rent out exclusively.

We wanted our guests to experience all that Italy has to offer while keeping the overall look and feel of the wedding tradition and timeless. We started with the venue and chose a 15th century Villa which was surrounded by olive groves and vineyards. We rented the Villa out exclusively so that our guests could enjoy the all of the villa’s grounds. We then welcomed our guests with a pizza party where they learned how make authentic Italian pizzas in a forno oven this gave them the chance to get to know each other.

We were in Piazza del Duomo having photos with our photographers and we were flagged over by a group of people. This group was an a’cappella group who there for a competition and said they would like to sing us a Welsh love song. They started singing a beautiful song and when we looked up the whole square was full of people watching. It was one of those moments that we will keep with us forever.

Kale wore a black custom tailored tux with custom purple paisley silk lining and personalized monograming in his jacket. For accessories he wore black Prada shoes and his cuff link were a family heirloom passed down from my late mother.

When I was thinking about what we would wear we both agreed we wanted to look timeless and classic. I wore a lace Berta Bridal dress which was a backless and had a fun element in the illusion V-neck. I accessorized my dress with pearl drop earrings, a cathedral veil, and blue suede Christian Louboutins.

The wedding ceremony was in a small garden located on the Villa grounds and had a back drop or rolling tuscan hills and we had a tenor serenading them in Italian.

Our wedding was a very intimate including 18 of our closest family and friends. We worked very closely with Sofia, of Tuscan Pledges, to craft our ceremony and wrote our vows to each other to be very personal. The groom’s aunt did a special reading during the ceremony of “How Do I Love Thee.” The most memorable moment was walking down the aisle while the tenor sang, it was very moving. I saw Kale and all of our friends and I realized how lucky we were to have such an amazing group with us in an unbelievable setting.

Groom’s Processional: Bach – Cantata 147
Bridesmaid’s Processional: Pachelbel – Canon in D
Bridal Processional: Andrea Bocelli – Con te Partiro (Live)
Signing Song: John Legend – All of Me
Recessional: Il Volo – Mattinata (Live)
First Dance: Otis Redding- That’s How Strong My Love Is

I can’t say enough about how amazing our photographers were to work with. Mike and Shari go above and beyond to make sure that your are happy and that every shot captures who you are as a couple. They not only produce award winning images they also add an amazing element of fun and friendship to the wedding.

The wedding dinner was something I don’t think I will ever forget, everything was beautifully plated and the service was white gloved and very professional. We ate under the stars and laughed the night away.

As we were coming to Italy from Canada we were not able to do many DIY projects but we did manage to take on the favours for all of the guests. They were small vases which we filled with olive oil from Italy and rosemary sprigs. The favours were also the escort tags which we finished with hand calligraphy.

I think that it is important to pick what really represents you as a couple. We are both people who love to travel, enjoy good food and wine, and we wanted our guests to share in that. I think that we had a lot of “learning curves” for planning a destination wedding of this scale but I also think that it is important to never be deterred from your dream and vision.

The wedding cake was done in a traditional Italian style, this is where they make the cake in front of the guests and ask the bride and groom to help.

6 Ways to Style Your Campground Wedding Venue

July 26, 2017 | Junebug Weddings

From adventurous elopements to giant parties in the middle of the forest, some of our favorite weddings this year have been all about channeling the great outdoors! A great way to achieve adventurous outdoorsy vibes at a venue that can sustain your entire guest list is to choose a campground wedding venue. One of the fun challenges of choosing a campground venue is that the decor possibilities are virtually endless, so we’ve rounded up six of our favorite ways to style a campground wedding!

1. MODERN RUSTIC

Modern rustic is quickly becoming a wedding trend that couples can’t get enough of, and for good reason! Its combination of rustic textures and florals with Mid-Century modern details (think hairpin legs, smooth wood grains, and a minimalist aesthetic) creates a warm and cozy atmosphere that will help your guests feel right at home.

2. BOHO WOODLAND

Woodland details and bohemian styles work perfectly with the great outdoors, so take your campground wedding to the next level with a combination of both trends! This wedding blended details like colorful handmade prayer flags, Persian rugs, and an epic circular ceremony space to create a one-of-a-kind wedding that reflected the couple’s love for the forest.

3. EDGY INDUSTRIAL

Can’t decide between an industrial venue and a campground venue? An edgy industrial campground wedding may be perfect for you! Show off your love for minimalist vibes in your campground decor by including geometric details, metallic accents, and tall candlesticks that create a warm space. For an edgy touch, choose a bold accent color like burgundy to include in your wedding’s color palette!

4. RELAXED ELEGANCE

For those of you who love elegant details like distressed door backdrops and greenery-forward floral designs, try a relaxed elegance campground style! This style is classy and elegant, but stays true to its outdoorsy roots with relaxed details like burlap accents and an effortlessly chic tent reception.

5. SOPHISTICATED SUMMER CAMP

If you love colorful bunting, roasting s’mores by the fire, and partaking in nostalgic campground activities, you may want to play up your campground’s natural charm with a sophisticated summer camp setting! This wedding’s reception space accentuated its mess hall roots with burlap details and card games, but kept it “adult” with top-notch catering and tall candelabras.

6. RUSTIC ROMANCE

There’s nothing quite like a classic white rose floral design, and this rustic romantic wedding pulls it off beautifully by pairing it with warm rustic textures like rugged wood and rattan. Elevate your rustic romantic campground wedding with a trail of white lanterns, hand-lettered signs, and a soft floral design full of greenery and roses.

This Austin Couple Crafted an Intimate Setting for Their Justine’s Secret House Wedding

July 26, 2017 | Junebug Weddings

It’s not every day we get to write about weddings we’ve actually attended, much less weddings of one of our own! Today is a very special treat because we get to share with you the wedding of our Junebug Editorial Assistant Gabby and her husband Patrick. You may have read Gabby’s post about ditching the big wedding they initially planned in lieu of something more intimate (if not, be sure to check it out here!). Seeing the details of this thoughtfully-crafted celebration come together was almost as much of a joy as the day itself! Gabby happened upon their venue, Justine’s Secret House, after writing about a wedding that took place there for our blog. The private space provided exactly the natural charm and intimate vibe the couple envisioned, so they set out to design a day that reflected what is most important to them: family, embracing local talent, and great food! Each and every inch of this Austin wedding came together with love and care, and these images by Briana Purser Photography and the film by Ivory & Iron beautifully tell that story.

On the morning of our wedding, Patrick gifted me a custom leather-bound book with a lifetime supply of gin rummy scorecards (our favorite card game!) printed inside. I gifted him a handmade geode kaleidoscope from the 1950s.

After having previously chosen a super-big wedding venue and then making the tough decision to scale back our plans, Patrick and I wanted to find a venue that physically enforced our smaller guest list, but also allowed for maximum style and function. As soon as we found out about Justine’s Secret House, we knew it was perfect for us! While it’s centrally located in downtown Austin, it’s tucked away and you literally wouldn’t know it’s there unless you were directed to it. Justine’s Secret House is a gorgeous renovated Victorian house with French/New Orleans style and is decked out with curiosities, art, and vintage details. Also, the restaurant that owns JSH, Justine’s Brasserie, catered our event and is one of our favorite restaurants in town!

We loved Briana Purser from the minute we met her, so we knew we could trust her with our wedding photos. Patrick and I aren’t the most comfortable in front of a camera (who is, really?!), so we were lucky to find someone like Briana who could make us feel at ease merely with her presence – and take amazing photos while she’s at it. We are still blown away with how perfectly Briana and our videographer Seth Dunlap captured our wedding. We couldn’t have asked for a better photographer or videographer!

I love, love, love all kinds of wedding dresses, but when it came to a dress that I would want to wear on my wedding day, my options were slim. Every dress that I tried on with tulle, beading, or lace didn’t feel like “me,” so when I found my floral silk Rebecca Schoneveld gown, I knew it was perfect for me. It was understated and elegant, nontraditional without being gimmicky, and it had the right amount of femininity. It was also incredibly comfortable, which was a huge bonus! I accessorized with a pearl cuff from Tory Burch, a lariat necklace from Catbird, pearl earrings, and an opal and aquamarine ring as my something blue.

We agree that the most memorable part of the day was our ceremony processional. We did a first look (which was so much fun!) and even spent half an hour together in a room to relax while our guests arrived, but the act of meeting each other at the altar for our ceremony was beyond emotional. Seeing all of our favorite people gathered together in an intimate, beautiful space to celebrate our marriage was overwhelming in all the best ways.

One wedding detail we’re particularly fond of was our wedding cake. Patrick and I gathered some white coral pieces from a recent road trip to the west coast, and we loved the thought of using them as cake toppers. Our dear friends Mindy and Ken of Mindy’s Bakeshop created the most beautiful wedding cake for us, and we are still getting compliments on how delicious it was!

Our advice to couples planning their wedding is to focus on getting quality vendors that understand what your needs are! Our priorities were amazing florals, an amazing venue, and outstanding food and alcohol. After we chose the vendors that could make our wedding dreams happen, everything else seemed to fall into place.

Patrick and I loved our venue so much that we based our wedding vibe off the space itself! We complemented the venue’s vintage botanical vibes by adding romantic springtime florals from Davy Gray, vintage furniture and décor from Loot Vintage Rentals, and a plan for the flow of the day to be effortless, natural, and intimate.
