Classy Butterfly Inspired Wedding at the Industrial Strongwater Columbus

September 8, 2017 | Junebug Weddings

Anna and Brian’s cool urban wedding at Strongwater Columbus, an old warehouse full of natural light, exposed brick and high ceilings, was given a romantic touch with thousands of DIY paper butterflies inspired by the natural beauty of Mexico in downtown Ohio. The hanging monarch butterfly installation above the dance floor was hand cut by the bride with help from friends and family and contained more than 7,000 paper butterflies. To make the monarch arbor really stand out simple décor was crucial, with low-key white linens and a mix of colorful wildflowers by Jewelweed highlighted the crisp beauty of the industrial space. Photographers The Brauns captured the sunset through grids of pane windows as the happy couple danced beneath clouds of butterflies for some truly magical photos.

The Couple:

Anna and Brian

The Wedding:

Strongwater Columbus, Ohio

The most important thing to us in planning our wedding was making sure that we were planning an event that truly reflected who we are and the things we care about and love.

Our wedding symbol was an aztec galactic butterfly that Brian cut out with a jigsaw and we had painted– the 5 foot one hung behind us during the ceremony, the 3 foot one was outside the venue, and the 2.5 foot one was on the favor table. It was also our wedding favor coasters my father-in-law had these laser cut and etched from wood.

The biggest DIY undertaking was a massive hanging monarch butterfly installation above the dance floor (about 15 feet x 20 feet). Initially I started making the butterflies by hand, but quickly realized that we had to start printing them for it to be impactful. We had a die-cut made and had about 7,000 butterflies printed and cut.

We then had help from close friends and family to hot glue the butterflies to monofilament and then assembled the strands on longer 20 foot strands. It took a lot of help from some really awesome people. Rely on people who are close to you for support and help. They want to help you! It is a big undertaking so the more you can delegate and get help with, the better!

The adult favors were succulents from the Union Square Green Market in NYC- keeping with our natural beauty of Mexico theme. The kids favors were tin mailboxes from Flying Tiger filled with fun things like flash tattoos, flamingo/fruit inflatable drink holders, and candy. Everyone also got a laser cut & etched aztec galactic butterfly coaster– this symbol was our wedding logo.

This Game of Thrones Wedding Inspiration is the Cure to Your Westeros Withdrawals

September 7, 2017 | Junebug Weddings

Game of Thrones is easily one of the most prolific pop culture touchstones of the moment, so it’s no wonder the Nordic-inspired elements of Westeros have seeped into the world of weddings! A talented team of wedding professionals in England were especially inspired by the HBO show and organized this shoot full of Scandinavian vibes and fashion worthy of the queen of dragons herself. Whether you’re a fan of the show or simply can’t get enough of natural, whimsical, bohemian styling, this Game of Thrones wedding inspiration will make your jaw drop!

From the Event Stylist, RedamancyWhether or not you watch Game Of Thrones, it’s effect on the styling and creative hemispheres has been undeniable. It’s a band-wagon that everyone has jumped on for all of the right reasons. Not only is the storyline riveting, but the cinematography and overall wonder of Westeros is captivating. It’s the reason why Game Of Thrones-esque weddings have been so popular this year, with brides and grooms choosing to include select details as nods to the series that has inspired the Nordic wedding vibe to come back with unstoppable force. And so to coincide with the series 7 finale of Game Of Thrones, we wanted to create a styled shoot to convince couples that they’re totally able to theme their wedding around their favourite tv programme, without any of the gimmicks.

Despite being filmed in locations all over the world, Game Of Thrones is undeniably Scandinavian in its execution. The team of suppliers involved all came together to interpret this theme in a way that is subtle and yet definitely a firm nod to the Emmy-award winning show. From the Stark Direwolf detail on the bow-tie to the era-appropriate desserts, this shoot would fit right into a wedding in Winterfell, as well as encapsulating some of the key trends for 2018.

A scroll by Gray Starling Designs, declaring the beautiful exchange that fans will recognise as between Khal Drogo and Daenerys Targaryen on their wedding day, cascades over the table summing up what this shoot is really about. In a world that is far from simple; love conquers all.

We were lucky enough to have Louise from Starr Gazing Ceremonies to demonstrate a hand-tying ceremony which is used in the weddings in Game of Thrones. With alternative ceremonies becoming more and more popular for weddings this year and next, it provided a real sense of authenticity and sent shivers down our spines as we watched from the shore as Louisa fastened ribbon around the hands of the bride and groom.

This Greenfield Farm Estate Wedding Brings the Botanical Wow Factor

September 7, 2017 | Junebug Weddings

Jess and Ben’s outdoor wedding at Greenfield Farm Estate has all of the botanical beauty. With florals being one of the main focuses for their wedding day, these two killed it in dreaming up what they wanted, and The Fernery Co executed it all flawlessly. As if the blooms weren’t perfect enough, the scenery at Greenfield Farm Estate just added to the dreaminess of it all. With their photographer, Jason Corroto Photo, Jess and Ben took a moment to relax with their wedding party and had a quick picnic in the woods topped off with champagne.

The Couple:

Jess and Ben

The Wedding:

Greenfield Farm Estate, Sydney, Australia

I didn’t have style that I had in mind for my dress, I just wanted a dress that reflected me. I ended up designing a custom dress with the amazing Mariam Seddiq. I absolutely loved the pattern of beads that were hand sewn on my bodice and sleeves, the design Mariam created was perfect! I wanted to pair this back with simplistic bridesmaid dresses that had just a hint of colour. The boys were looking bold in their navy suits with burgundy accents.

We wanted a venue where the ceremony and reception could be held at the same location, and being a creative couple, one that also gave us the freedom to truly express ourselves with the styling. Greenfield Farm Estate allowed us to do both. Being surrounded by the most gorgeous scenery, we were able to draw upon this by surrounding our guests with as much floral goodness as possible. A relaxed venue we really tried to add a touch of magic to.

We have two favourite moments, the first being the morning of the wedding. After having spent the previous day styling and setting up the venue ourselves (with the help of our amazing family and friends), coming back to the venue the morning of the wedding was bliss – seeing everything ready and saying, yes this is where we’re getting married today! The second was giving ourselves some time out just after our photo session with the amazing Jason. We had a picnic set up in the rainforest for the bridal party and ourselves, decked out with canapés and wine. This allowed us to actually sit there and take it all in, whilst sipping on a champagne of course!

Having recently launched our own floristry business, The Fernery Co, flowers were the most important thing. Choosing a venue that allowed us to be able to express ourselves without any restrictions, in regards to flowers and styling was the main focus. Luckily we found a venue that allowed just that!

We both wrote down three things each we wanted as ‘must haves’ for our wedding day. We then showed each other, if we had the same thing we made sure it was a focal point of our day, the others we would try and work in. It’s a good way to make sure you are limiting yourselves to the things you want most. Otherwise you can get really carried away with wanting everything.
