Earthy Elegant Wedding at Perth City Farm

November 5, 2017 | Junebug Weddings

Perth City Farm, a green garden oasis in the middle of downtown, was perfect for Kayla and Jared’s indoor-outdoor celebration full of family and fun, featuring food trucks, lawn games, and hundreds of guests. The perfect venue for a magical and beautiful wedding day featuring a rustic barn and lush courtyards, the couple customized the space from the ground up. Most of the details were DIY, like the hundreds of folded paper cranes made into a creative and beautiful hanging backdrop and the gorgeous grey drapes and green garlands that made the minimal, white barn look lush and inviting. We love how Kate Drennan Photography captured all in attendance having an amazing time celebrating this couple and the abundance of candid photos of this incredibly happy bridal party.

The Couple:

Kayla and Jared

The Wedding:

Perth City Farm, Perth, Australia

Perth City Farm was the perfect venue for our style. We wanted somewhere with garden and greenery and indoor space that offered BYO food and drinks. The large barn and outdoors areas were perfect to host food trucks, lawn games and hundreds of guests.

Remember to take a night off once in a while. It can turn into a full time job and that’s when it gets stressful. And remember that not everything needs to be perfect – it should be about you marrying the person you love most, not what others might think of the decor!

Processional: Paper Kites – “Bloom”
Recessional: Blue Swede – “Hooked On A Feeling”

We hand folded hundreds of paper cranes for the hanging backdrop, made the grey drapes, garland and all the bits and pieces for the table decorations.

All of the amazing candid photos! We didn’t want a formal, staged style and Kate got this to a tee.

Kate was amazing! she was easy going andfit right in with our guests. My brothers even asked how long we had been friends with the photographer for.

We wanted a day that reflected us – it wouldn’t have made sense to have a formal 3 course dinner. We wanted it to be a celebration and to have fun with family and friends.

This DIY Georgia Wedding at Gascoigne Bluff was Catered by Waffle House

November 4, 2017 | Junebug Weddings

Summer and Tanner wanted their large, southern wedding to be different and refused to stick to outdated traditions, which is why they chose to wed at Gascoigne Bluff, a stunning venue featuring ancient live oak trees draped in Spanish moss. Waffle House catered their outdoor reception and was a huge highlight of the day: a decadent brunch buffet of cheesy eggs, grits and bacon, made-to-order waffle and hash brown station, and an espresso bar with baristas from the couple’s favorite coffee shop, Wake Up Coffee Co. This creative wedding featured plenty of elegant DIY details, like the dance floor made up of thrifted vintage rugs that are now spread around the couple’s house as a romantic wedding day reminder and the décor and bridal party greenery that was grown in the bride’s grandmother’s backyard. Yellow Bird Visuals and AHP Videos did an amazing job of capturing everything heartfelt and emotional about this wedding, from the couple being married by the bride’s father and grandfather, to their incredibly emotional first look while walking down the aisle.

Summer and Tanner

The Wedding:

Gascoigne Bluff, St. Simons Island, Georgia

I feel like every girl says this, but I really wanted our wedding to be different. Trying to plan a 300+ person wedding on an under $10,000 budget made it really easy to make our day different, mainly because I refused to pay $1,000 to rent a dance floor, $60 per person for the same old same old wedding food, etc.

My dad walking me down the aisle was a huge highlight, both of us couldn’t stop crying, and then seeing Tanner‘s reaction to seeing me was better than I could have ever dreamed or imagined.

My dad is also a pastor of a church in Brunswick Georgia, The Chapel, and so after he walked me down the aisle,he married me alongside my grandfather, a retired pastor.

Our dance floor was all vintage rugs I found at different thrift stores. And now they are all in our house, and reminds us of our wedding day. Also all of the greenery decor and bridal party floral was grown in my grandmas yard, and she arranged the bouquets. She was my MVP and hero.

We had Waffle House cater the reception and it was such a hit! We had a buffet line of cheesy eggs, grits, bacon and eggs. Then we had made to order waffle and hash browns stations and our favorite coffee shop from St. Simons set up an espresso bar with baristas serving cappuccinos, lattes, and cold brews. Tree House Macarons did the desserts, hundreds of macarons and a creme Brule macaron wedding cake.

South African Bohemian Festival Wedding at Mofam River Lodge

When Tarryn and Bruce moved to Dubai six months before their wedding it seemed their DIY dreams of a relaxed bohemian celebration were dashed, but with plenty of help from family, their festival-inspired Mofam River Lodge union came together beautifully. The lodge featured riverfront views and on site accommodation for all of their guests, perfect for a tranquil, three-day fête in a stunning setting that encouraged their guests to explore the rustic teepees and laid-back lounge areas spread across the grounds. DIY details brought the festival vibe together beautifully: from the colorful floral design and cheerful dream catchers to the handmade bridesmaids tambourines and eclectic ceremony and reception décor, a charming mix of antique furniture and vintage rugs. Dearheart Photos captured the couple soaking in the stunning natural beauty of the area and their dreamy, fun-filled reception.

The Couple:

Tarryn and Bruce

The Wedding:

Mofam River Lodge, Elgin, South Africa

It was important to us to be present and enjoy every moment of the wedding planning process. The build up to your wedding is such a special time and leaves you with so many wonderful memories. There were tough, overwhelming moments but we were lucky to have wonderful support from each other, as well as our friends and family, which kept us grounded andmindful about what the whole day was really about.

We really wanted to have a DIY wedding, but when we suddenly decided to pack up and move to Dubai 6 months before our wedding our DIY dreams were dashed. In stepped my Mom… she made our dreamcatchers, moon photo booth, bridesmaids “bouquets”, pillow covers and blankets, painted old furniture, and a few other things which were total Pinterest fails and not used on our day.

Each guest was allocated a different colour puzzle piece. Later in the evening they were told to find other people with their matching colour and build their puzzle. This was their team for the chair game, similar to musical chairs but each round had a task. The game was such a hit and got pretty wild, it was a great way to involve all of our guests.

We asked our friends to officiate our wedding. After careful thought they graciously accepted the daunting task of marrying us. John and Linda were married the year before us and fully understood the gravity of this request. We were so moved by how much thought and effort they put into the ceremony and loved how personal it was.

The ceremony. Standing up there and promising to be there for each other in front of our friends andfamily. There is so much love in the air. Later in the evening we walked away and looked down at the reception. Bruce said “look, look how beautiful it is, we did that and everyone there is here for us”. It was a great moment for us to be alone together and take it all in.

Go with the flow! There will be times when it gets overwhelming, when you don’t agree with each other, when a supplier lets you down, or your family or friends add stress but it’s the most magical experience if you don’t sweat the small stuff.

Our entire vision was based on a beautiful outdoor setting, we didn’t have a sit down reception and needed a space that would complement a boho carnival/picnic . It was also important to us to have a weekend celebration rather than one day so choosing a venue with enough accommodation for all of our guests was a top requirement. It worked beautifully not only for our wedding, but for the welcome evening and the day after the wedding, spent on the river.
