Waiting Years To Find Their Way Back To Each Other

Macy and Marcus first met in high school and even dated briefly. Marcus likes to point out that Macy was the first girl he ever picked up after getting his driver’s license. Life eventually took them in different directions, with college, careers, and nursing school pulling them apart before they unexpectedly found each other again.

After Macy returned home from Arkansas, Marcus reached out through Instagram. It took a little persistence before she agreed to meet up, but once she did, everything clicked.

One story has become a favorite in hindsight. Before they were officially dating, Marcus requested time off work for a trip together and told his boss he was “going on vacation with my future wife.” Long before either of them knew where the relationship would lead, he already had a feeling.

Designing Around A 1920s Landmark

Living in Texas meant Macy and Marcus had no shortage of farmhouse venues to consider, but they were drawn to something with a different kind of history. The Mason immediately stood out with its restored 1920s architecture, hidden speakeasy, grand piano, and vintage details.

Their decor worked with the building’s original character. Soft pink florals, olive greenery, candlelight, and elegant drapery complemented the historic architecture, while the ceremony space later transformed into the intimate reception they had envisioned.

Finding New Ways To Include Family During The Ceremony

One of the day’s biggest surprises happened before Macy even entered the room. Marcus stood waiting as a prerecorded audio message from his bride played through the ceremony space, creating one of the day’s most emotional moments before they ever saw one another. The ceremony continued with family woven into nearly every role. One uncle officiated while another played the piano for Macy’s walk down the aisle. Instead of traditional ring bearers, both of their mothers presented the rings.

Before all of that, Macy shared another private moment with her dad during their first look. She surprised him with a framed childhood photo of herself wearing her first white dress, paired with lyrics from their first dance song. Although many couples choose a first look together, Macy and Marcus saved that moment for the aisle. “There was something incredibly special about seeing Marcus for the first time as I walked toward him. I wouldn’t have changed it for anything.”

Planning started with help from family. Macy’s sister had recently gotten married, and her mom was already in wedding-planning mode before they officially hired a planner. Once their planning team came on board, those early ideas became a cohesive celebration.

Macy focused on details guests would actually interact with. She designed custom name tags and created a wedding magazine for every guest, while Marcus brought his own style through a custom olive green suit with their love story printed inside the lining and their names embroidered in the pocket. 

Another detail that stayed close to home was Macy’s veil, which she made alongside her grandmother after learning how to sew and bead from her. Wearing something they created together added another layer of family history to the day.

Finding vendors was equally thoughtful. Because the venue has such a distinct character, they searched through weddings already held there, studying tagged vendors on Instagram to build a team that already understood the space.

Why Cocktail Hour Became One Of The Most Talked-About Moments

While the couple stepped away for portraits, guests settled into cocktail hour with hors d’oeuvres, drinks, and live music from a saxophonist.

Months later, it’s still one of the details guests bring up most often. Instead of waiting for the reception to begin, everyone had time to relax, flip through their custom magazines, enjoy cocktails, and listen to live music before moving into the next part of the evening at The Mason.

A Reception Inspired By A Classic Speakeasy

Once cocktail hour wrapped up, guests returned to discover the ceremony space had completely changed. Drapery enclosed the room, creating the atmosphere of an intimate speakeasy lounge. A dessert bar, photo booth, light sticks, and an energetic DJ kept the celebration moving, while one playful surprise quickly became a crowd favorite: money guns loaded with custom bills featuring Macy and Marcus’ faces.

By the time the dance floor filled up, it was clear people weren’t lingering around the edges. Nearly everyone was out celebrating together, exactly as Macy and Marcus had hoped.

When The Unexpected Became A Favorite Memory

Not everything unfolded exactly as planned. A few guests unknowingly helped themselves to the couple’s cheesecake before the ceremonial cake cutting, making everyone laugh when it came time for the traditional photos. Later, the venue’s elevator temporarily stopped working, requiring staff to help some older guests navigate the two-story building.

Rather than dwelling on either situation, Macy and Marcus simply kept celebrating. Looking back, those unexpected moments have become just another part of the story they tell about the day.
