la Vie PhotographyMusic is a hugely important part of every wedding day, whether you want it to be the life of the party or the romantic soundtrack that sets the tone. A great DJ can help direct the flow of your big day with their musical expertise and experienced party starting skills. We spoke to three of our favorite DJs to get the low down on what their job is all about and what every couple needs to know. Read on to see what they had to say…

“Marshall was about to take off on a five-week trip, and he couldn’t bear to say goodbye to Emily without assuring her of his return. So he suggested a Ferris Bueller’s Day Off scenario for the Friday before his departure.
The adventure began with a picturesque hike, a scrumptious lunch, and a relaxing walk along the pier. The next stop: the Seattle Art Museum. And that day, there was a special exhibit. After they had wandered around for a while, Marshall directed Emily’s attention to a display in the main exhibit room. Behind the glass perched on a beautifully carved Asian wood stand, sat a bell shaped silver jewelry box, in which nested an exquisite solitaire diamond ring. “How beautiful,” she exclaimed, and she began to read the plaque…

JKH PhotographyWhat if my vows turn out to be lame?
No worries, authentic words of love are never lame, and people at weddings are supportive, not judgmental. What’s important is that you speak from your heart directly to her as if there was no audience, and stay true to yourself. Check with your fiancé along the way to be sure you’re on the right track, and check with the person you have chosen to officiate before you begin writing to be sure that personal vows will be allowed in your ceremony. For tons of help on this subject check out the Wedding Gazette.

Is my adorable five-year old nephew too young to be in my wedding?
Positive Light PhotographyWe asked wedding consultant, Janel Schlitt of Occasions LLC, to give us some tips on how to include your nephew and other kids in your ceremony. Here is what she had to say, “Generally kids four years of age and older can handle the responsibility of being in a wedding, with a little help. I bring a small reward (not candy) to share with them once their “good job” is over. It is a must to keep parents visible and in an aisle seat. That way if a child gets overwhelmed or can’t stand fairly still with the rest of the bridal party, they are free to go sit with their parents without causing a distraction. When there are two or more kids in the wedding party, I use the buddy system. Children who can share the limelight with someone else are usually much more comfortable about being involved.”
