Stunning East Texas Wedding at The Folmar in Sage Green

Beth and Jake’s wedding at The Folmar, a charming southern estate tucked away on an East Texas back road, was inspired by the bucolic French countryside. Featuring an elegant and sophisticated color palette of slate, French blues, dove grey, and tons of neutrals and greenery and classically rustic details full of intention, like bread and wine, rosemary and lavender and natural plenty of elements such as exposed wood and linen. The bride wore a Rue De Seine wedding dress with panels of French lace and an open back with a simple chignon, a look that flowed beautifully with the European theme. Floral designer Primrose Path created an incredibly chic and refined composition that tied the stunning outdoor ceremony to the reception and created a cohesive theme, from the hanging white florals, to garlands of sage and accents of purple thistle. Leeann Funk Photography captured this couple enjoying their beautiful venue in fields of bright yellow flowers and in front of the statement-making blue French doors that set theme.

The Couple:

Beth and Jake

The Wedding:

The Folmar, Tyler, Texas

I wore a dress designed by the French brand Rue De Seine. There were panels of french lace sewn in with handmade silk, it was simple yet classic, and it flowed so beautifully. The dress paired well with the wedding vibes and venue. I wore my great grandmothers earrings for my sentimental accessory. The wedding party wore floor length dress from Show me Your Mumu in Silver Sage. The rest of the wedding party wore short navy dresses to compliment the wedding aesthetic. I think I had the most beautiful wedding party out there, such babes!

We chose elements that reflected our style – really natural, simple, but classic. We also love wine, so we tried to include a French Rustic element. Our hope was that our wedding facilitated community, so we tried to include ways for fellowship to flourish, like having a fire pit and family style meal for meaningful conversations. Also, lots of dancing.

For us, walking down the aisle was so memorable. We didn’t do a first look, which made this moment so intense, but so sweet, everything was so dreamy and perfect in that moment, we couldn’t stop smiling. Jake had some tears… but if you ask him, he says “it was allergies.” The weather that day turned out to be absolutely perfect, the music, the officiant’s message, and our friends praying over us…we felt so loved by every detail in our ceremony.

Jake and I went to grad school together, and our beloved professor, Dr. Jones, officiated the ceremony. This was one of our favorite elements of the entire wedding. Dr. Jones has taught us so many valuable truths, so to have him officiate the wedding and speak about a covenantal love over us and for our guests was so very meaningful.

Think bread, wine, rosemary, lavender, lots of natural elements like wood, linen whites, laid back, European, rustic, French countryside for our wedding inspiration. We had slate colors, French blues, dove grey, lots of neutrals, and lots of greenery. It was so important to us that the wedding was natural, simple and reflective of our interests.

We collected and stained all the wine crates that our wedding wine came in, we filled them with vines from our neighbors garden, and this DIY served as our table centerpieces. It was so simple, but made the tables look so elegant. We also had the entire head table lined with almost 100 vintage brass candlesticks that we thrifted. It was so dreamy.

Processional: ‘Bloom’ by The Paper Kites and ‘Sort Of’ by Ingrid Michaelson
Recessional:  ‘Summertime Romance’ by Johnnyswim
First Dance: ‘Paris in June’ by Johnnyswim
We chose Johnnyswim as our first dance song because our first date was to a Johnnyswim show. This band’s music is so significant to us.
