Calling All Adventurous Couples! This Austrian Elopement Inspiration is For You!

March 2, 2018 | Junebug Weddings

Fawntastique event planners made it nearly impossible to choose a favorite element of this adventurous Austrian elopement inspiration shoot. At first, we thought it was the gorgeous large floral hoop they set up for the ceremony that took place on a gorgeous mountainside. But then we caught a glimpse of all the rustic decor and bohemian-inspired centerpieces created by Blütenträume on their waterfront sweetheart table and completely fell in love. Then again, the bride’s dis oui by soeur coeur dress, faux fur vest, and statement necklace from Refined Bohemia, combined with the groom’s cozy sweater, suspender, and bowtie combo, had us hooked from the very beginning — and their relaxed day-after hiking gear kept us until the end. I guess you could say we love everything about this shoot, and we’re eternally grateful Frau Skroblies und Freunde and Kathrin Krok Fotografie were there to capture every dreamy moment!

From the videographer: We wanted to show our couples, that whatever you want your wedding to be like, you can do! Even though your wedding might be very intimate and small, it doesn’t mean it’s going to be less emotional. We love the mountains and raw nature so we designed our Style Shoot “Into the Wild” around that theme: natural colors and materials, dinner at the lake, dancing next to a bonfire underneath the stars.

From the videographer: Although Tiffany and Jonas got married last year, they were really happy about the idea of renewing their wedding vows in this dream-like scenery. So we travelled to Austria and spent a lovely weekend at Lake Achensee. The styled shoot became more of a second wedding elopement for them. We only prepared them the setting; the rest is just the real couple and their best friend who accompanied them.

Dark Romance Never Looked Better Than in This Christianson’s Nursery Wedding

March 2, 2018 | Junebug Weddings

Emma and Caden took edgy romance to a whole new level in their exquisite wedding at Christianson’s Nursery. The quaint Washington nursery had not only gorgeous greenhouses and gardens, which were the perfect backdrops for their couples portraits with Elizabeth Anne Studios, but also the most charming old schoolhouse that was the perfect size for their small wedding. Because they only had 30 guests, the couple was able to create an intimate feel not just for the ceremony but also for their elegant dinner-party style reception, which featured vintage gold candelabras, pink and red floral centerpieces from Pozie by Natalie, and crystal chandeliers. But, despite all the incredible details, Emma’s black lace Sweet Caroline Styles bodysuit, voluminous Wardrobe by Dulcinea skirt, and antique accessories completely stole the show and our hearts!

The most important thing to us was keeping the wedding personal and intimate. We kept our guest list quite small at less than 30 to make sure that no one felt unattended to. We also tried to pay close attention to all of the details in order to create the aesthetic and vibe we had in mind. The whole wedding, from the food and drinks to the venue and decor, was handpicked to feel like a reflection of us. We tried to incorporate our personal style in as much as we could so that people left the wedding with a distinctive feeling and memory.

Our vows were definitely the most memorable. We were both nervous before the ceremony began, which felt silly after having been together for so many years. Not to mention we had already spent the whole morning and afternoon together beforehand, getting ready and taking portraits. We hadn’t shared our vows with each other so we each were able to surprise the other. We each wrote them to be very personal and, after having been together for eight years, we certainly had a lot of experiences and love to draw from. Perhaps the memorable thing about the vows though were not just the words, but the emotion. We both cried and we both laughed really hard, and the same happened for our family and friends who witnessed it. It actually felt surreal to feel so much emotion from so many people in the same room, all at once. It was definitely the highlight of the whole day.

Aside from writing our own vows, we did our ring exchange with the vows from a favorite movie, The Corpse Bride. It had started off as a joke before we were engaged, but then ended up being the perfect choice. We even poured wine and lit candles to along with them. All of these details made the whole ceremony a lot of fun.

Our biggest piece of advice is not do anything that doesn’t feel completely right. Don’t include traditions that don’t feel personal or like a good reflection of your relationship, and don’t feel obligated to make the wedding bigger than you are comfortable with. By keeping our wedding small, we were able to afford to add details and do things for our guests (like a sit-down dinner) that we could not have otherwise been able to pull off with our budget. We also opted not to do several traditions, such as the first dance, because they would have felt forced. We wanted the whole day to feel natural and comfortable for everyone involved, especially ourselves. This day is all about the couple, their love and their personalities, to be shared with their most loved ones.

We both wanted looks that felt like “wedding attire” without giving up our own personal style. He didn’t want anything too matchy-matchy, so we bought each a piece for his outfit individually, making sure it would be comfortable for all-day wear. For mine, no one was terribly surprised when I said I was wearing black because I wear black every day. But I still didn’t think people knew what to expect from a black wedding dress. I wanted something dramatic that would feel subtly vintage. I chose the skirt because I thought it ethereal and the top I loved for the lace appliqué and open back. My headpiece was custom made by a gal who creates the most beautiful handmade jewelry and hair combs. I didn’t want it to take away from the drama of my dress and felt it complimented it perfectly. I collect antique jewelry so the rhinestones she used reminded me of those used during the Art Deco era. I didn’t want to wear a lot of jewelry, but I did purchase a 1920’s glass necklace made of crystal and emerald colored glass. I thought it was a nice pop of color to reflect the greenery of the venue. I hadn’t worn all of these elements at the same time until the day of the wedding but once it all came together I felt really beautiful.

Vintage Eclectic North Carolina Wedding at Oskar Blues Reeb Ranch

March 1, 2018 | Junebug Weddings

With sentimental value in the Blue Ridge Mountains, it was a no brainer for Anna Kate and Zane to have their wedding at Oskar Blues Reeb Ranch. Blues Reeb offered the perfect mix of rustic and modern elements that are perfect for their eclectic wedding vibes. East West Vintage Rentals provided mismatched chairs for the ceremony that added a bit of charm to their day. Anna Kate rocked a Moonlight Bridal two piece wedding dress and Zane looked dapper as ever in his tux from The Black Tux. These two celebrated with their family and friends with The Bus Booth photo booth and Jade & May Co. mobile bartender. Fox and Owl Studio photographed the fun and joyous day!

The Couple:

Anna Kate and Zane

The Wedding:

Oskar Blues Reeb Ranch, Brevard, North Carolina

I work as a graphic designer and I was SO excited to design our day. All of the signage, stationery collateral, table numbers, place cards, and printed material were designed and hand-lettered by me.

Focus on the moment! During planning, even though it’s easy to get wrapped up in the visual decor of things, it’s important to try and remember the actual day itself. Hiring a wedding planner was hugely important to us because it allowed us to focus on the upcoming big day and actually enjoy it instead of worrying about the details.

I grew up riding horses and was pretty much born in a barn, and always wanted to be married in one. It was also important for us to be married in the Blue Ridge Mountains, where I was raised and where Zane proposed to me. The dairy barn at Reeb Ranch fit those criteria and more. I loved the character of the white barn and the red doors, and the history behind it — it was built in the 1940s by German immigrants and was made entirely of concrete which allowed it to retain such good shape over the years. The property included a hidden bonus — a charming 1800s cabin in the woods just steps from the ceremony site, which served as the “bridal cabin”. A private double waterfall in the background of the cabin on the property sealed the deal for us.

I wanted something that reflected our love of vintage ephemera and bohemian stye. Although we were picking a barn as our venue, we really did not want to go the typical rustic route so we leaned heavily on “eclectic” as our general vibe. One of the first decor items I planned were the vintage chairs, and the rest fell into place. Oriental rugs, mismatched plant stands, houseplants and a variety of vases were the perfect touch to my “eclectic” vibe, pulled together seamlessly by the crisp white backdrop of the barn front and chippy character of the barn interior. It was important for us to include sentimental aspects, my favorite of which being the cake topper we used which was used by both my mother and grandmother in their weddings as well.

Our favorite photo taken by Fox & Owl was definitely the one of us coming down the aisle together as newlyweds. I remember the overwhelming feeling of joy during that moment vividly, but to have it mirrored in a photograph is something we will cherish forever.

I wanted something easy, but beautiful, and effortless. My two-piece dress from Moonlight Bridal was my favorite part because of how unique but comfortable it was. I wanted sleeves from the beginning, and I loved the idea of wearing my lace top later with a skirt to anniversary dinners so I didn’t have to put the dress away forever.

Our photographers were the glue that held our day together. Shannon and Andrew of Fox & Owl Studio are THE best to work with, and our day with them felt like we were spending time with old friends. We felt comfortable, relaxed and open with them, and were able to lean back and trust them to capture our vision.

I wanted everything to feel authentically “us” and not get caught up in other ideas or visions once ours was decided. One of our first dates was going antiquing in a local antique mall and ever since, a love of ephemera has been part of our aesthetic. From the vintage chairs to the decor, we wanted it the entire day to feel eclectic and bohemian, much like our own home.

Burgundy, sage, gold, and black were our colors. It was important for us be married in our favorite month, October, and wanted to honor the season of fall by using deep, moody wedding tones. I work as a graphic designer and use the same deep tones in much of my work so chose the colors for our wedding was simply a natural extension of my personal design tastes.
