Burgundy Boho Salvage One Wedding in Chicago

April 13, 2018 | Junebug Weddings

We’re bringing you a little boho style, a little vintage flair, and a whole lot of sophisticated elegance with Monique and Anthony’s Salvage One wedding in downtown Chicago. The bride, who planned the entire event, was the picture of boho-glam in a stunning long-sleeve lace Ines Di Santo gown and delicate flower crown that featured pops of burgundy, peach, and white flowers. Splendor of Eden took those same flowers and created spectacular cascading bouquets, installations, and a ceremony backdrop that perfectly fit the moody, vintage vibe of the warehouse venue. Because the couple are vintage collectors as well as foodies, they laid antique rugs down the ceremony aisle, served a classic Puerto Rican feast, and served dinner on antique china. Monique and Anthony nailed every single detail, and we couldn’t be more excited that Junebug member Studio 29 Photography + Design was there to capture it all!

The Couple:

Monique and Anthony

The Wedding:

Salvage One, Chicago, Illinois

We wanted our wedding to feel romantic, ethereal, bohemian and vintage all at once because that captures the love my husband and I have for one another — we’re two old souls. The colors and details of our day captured who we are as a couple perfectly.

For my bridal look, I wanted something romantic and vintage, with a touch of bohemian. The dress was the first one I tried on. It was classic but still one-of-a-kind and unique. I love that it had sleeves for the colder weather! I picked out simple earrings to allow the dress and flowers to speak for themselves. I also did a darker smokey brown eye with a bold lip to bring out my flowers.

We served a custom hispanic family-style menu and our guests loved it! The food was incredibly important because I’m a food blogger, and we wanted it to reflect my family’s Puerto Rican heritage. It was the most amazing wedding food anyone had!

This Tulum Beach Wedding was Styled to the Nines by the Wedding Designer Bride

April 13, 2018 | Junebug Weddings

When it was time for wedding designer Adriana of The Creative’s Loft to plan her own wedding, she and her fiancé, Gabe, opted for a wildly romantic Tulum beach wedding on the pristine shores of Mexico. The secluded beach offered the perfect haven for their intimate ceremony, which featured a stunning macrame backdrop the couple has since repurposed into home decor and DIY wands with bells for the dance-party style exit to the cocktail hour. As you can imagine, Adriana styled every inch of the reception, channeling a beautiful beachy vibe with bohemian decor, rustic signage and food/drink bars, vintage photo displays, and elegant floral arrangements. The bride also brought all those same vibes into her bridal look with a flowing Elie Saab gown, lace cape, and minimalist gold and pearl jewelry and hairpiece. Photographer Pablo Laguia didn’t miss a minute and caught so many sweet moments of the couple getting ready together, busting random dance moves, and snuggling among the palm trees and on the beach.

As a wedding planner and a bride, my strongest and most personal advice for other couples is to customized your wedding according to your values and what you like the most! This is crucial to ensure you enjoy the whole process of designing your wedding! In addition, make it personal!!! Create some time to design DIY ideas and details for the day…this makes everything! Is how your wedding stands out from the typical wedding. In addition, analyze in advance where do you envision getting married (in your city, a destination wedding…a private property, secluded beach). This decision makes the difference! Also…decide where your money goes! For us the 3 most important aspects of the day where: photography + video / Overall Decor and Vibe + Venue / Food and Drinks!

I wanted my bridal look to be unique and creative, so I found a dress that combined beach/boho style and still had an elegant touch. It’s a dress from Elie Saab, composed of 2 pieces (a cape and a heart shape simple dress below). The cape was everything! I am a Cape-Lover and could not imagine my day without it! I added some special complements to the dress; a special handmade collection composed by different rings, bracelets and a headpiece from Lia Terni. Earrings a special gift from my mom, from Tous. Shoes by my sister, from one of my favorite shoe designer from my city; Estefania Marco.

Gabe chose to walk the aisle with “Viva la Vida” Version Salsa, from COLD PLAY.
I chose “Color Esperanza” from DIEGO TORRES, as a message to my husband…it means a lot for us what this song states! The Recessional Song we envisioned and wanted to walk the aisle as a married couple with all our beloved ones following us! So we chose GUANTANAMERA…it was PERFECT for that moment. Everyone took the Wedding Wands and started dancing after us! Dope Moment!

We had always envisioned getting married in a secluded spot, in one of our favorite countries. We checked all over the place and finally decided that Mexico is one of the countries we both like the most because of its culture, vibe and beaches. We went a couple of times previously and fell in love with some secluded beaches…we found the one!

One of our favorite parts of planning was all the DIY projects we put together! We designed the following items: wedding wands with bells for the ceremony; happy tears kits; sparkler kits for first dance; menus and place cards; table chargers with various Mexican tile patterns; mini bottles of spicy Mexican sauce; mini can of tea; props for the dance floor; and customized tattoos with our wedding hashtag (#contigoalquintopino).

We had a very creative cocktail hour. We came up with the idea of serving mini tacos combined with mini margaritas “El Patrón”. Capresse Salads in cute cones rather than in a stick, black ceviche mini spoon, etc. We also added some Paletas Mexicanas (popsicles) with super dope flavors; mojito popsicle, piña colada popsicle, perla negra (redbull and jaggermeister), mango with spicy powder, yogurt with fruits, etc. This was a mini cart that we put during the party time! They all loved it!

Emotional and Spiritual Ohio Wedding in the Countryside

April 12, 2018 | Junebug Weddings

When it comes to sentimental celebrations, Jen and Will’s intimate Alexandra, Ohio wedding is as sweet and emotional as it gets! They chose the private church property because of its significance to the bride’s family. Jen’s father built the little bridge they had to cross to get to the ceremony site for his own wedding many years ago and many of Jen’s family members got married in the church or on the property. So, they wanted to carry on the special tradition of starting their forever in that same, sentimental place. Wearing a stunning vintage-inspired gown and long veil from Alex Veil Bridal, Jen looked as if she had emerged from a different era, and her bridesmaid’s blush and lavender ASOS gowns echoed the soft, vintage look they used in the decor and floral arrangements. Photographers Eastlyn Bright and Joshua Lee’s creative composition and artistry truly brought this unique celebration and all the emotional moments to life.

The Couple:

Jen and Will

The Wedding:

Private Church, Alexandra, Ohio

More than anything, we wanted our wedding to tell our personal story and to reveal the love of God. We chose this vision early in our wedding planning, and it assisted us in both the practical and creative decisions we made. Our budget, the aesthetic, the artists we chose to collaborate with, and so much more took form from this initial dream. Everything became about symbolic and intentional choices, and we went out of our convenience to find new ways to make our day meaningful to us.

For us, the most meaningful moment of the day was our first look. After first seeing one another, we prayed together, and Will read Proverbs 31 over me, and I read Psalm 1 over him. A friend of ours had taught us to do this for marriage, and it was a really powerful moment to share just before the ceremony. We had told my dad before the first look that we wanted him to play a part in the first look, as well, as it wasn’t official that I’d be handed off to Will yet. Will wanted to go out of his way to respect the relationship between my dad and me. So, while we had our first look, my dad stood off in a distance watching us and praying. At the end, we walked down to the bridge he’d built for his wedding, and my dad prayed over us while we all stood together on it. We were all sobbing. To us, it was this beautiful picture of our heavenly Father’s love for us and our most treasured moment of it all.

In choosing our wedding photographers, we immediately knew we wanted Eastlyn and Joshua. In our engagement photographs and wedding photographs, they went out of their way to continually be intentional with us and our story. They listened to us talk about what we care about for hours, and they didn’t bend to any other vision for our day. Creativity is something that’s important to us as a couple, and working with them truly felt like a collaboration between our dream and their artistic eye. They loved us well, were centered on making sure we were okay, and they even kept us present to the moment by helping us create a slow schedule for our day. We’ll treasure these photographs forever, and for all the significance they now are to our new family’s history, we’re so thankful Eastlyn and Joshua captured them.

For years I told my friends that one day I wanted to get married at the old country church I grew up at, and as I went down the “aisle,” I wanted to walk across the bridge that my dad had built for his own wedding. My grandparents and other old family friends actually built the stone church years ago, and so, for me, that church held immense generational value to my family’s heritage. Many of my family members have married in the church or on its property.

Will and I met taking piano lessons from my stepmom. We had our recitals together in the church as young children. I remember even then thinking he was cute, as he played the theme song from Pink Panther for all of our friends and family. We’ve both had countless memories involved in the building, and it meant a lot to us both that we would marry there.

In planning the ceremony, I chose to keep the decorations very simple because we wanted our story and our faith to take center stage. The processional music was from my favorite movie, Pride and Prejudice, and it was played by Will‘s piano-prodigy brother, Seth. We opted to not have a flower girl or ring bearer because we had no meaning tied to that. Instead, we had young children from our family ring wedding bells, as it added to the whimsical feel of the music. My dear grandma was the “flower lady” because she, my sister, and I picked wildflowers together when we were younger, and I wanted to honor her in this way.

Above all else, your day is about you two as a couple. I remember sitting with Will at the beginning of the wedding planning and discussing what we cared about, and how we were going to incorporate those values in our day. Our parents, family, and friends were all involved in the production of our dream, but we identified the dream as a couple. I felt the strain of needing to please everyone involved so often through the planning, but remembering those values we claimed early on kept us centered on choosing what was best for us. It made our wedding about us, and meaningful to us. I’ll never regret that, even if it wasn’t always conventional. Be different, and make interesting decisions just because they mean something to you!
