This Tropical Bohemian Prospect House Wedding is What Floral Dreams are Made Of

October 15, 2018 | Junebug Weddings

Katie and Ethan added a tropical twist to their Prospect House wedding venue in the Texas hill country and, needless to say, it’s exactly what we needed today! Merveille Floral & Design went above and beyond in creating a tropical flower-covered wall, hanging leaf installations, and a textural bridal bouquet that looked almost too pretty to be real. The planners of Bride’s Best Friend made the entire day feel like a destination wedding in Cabo, but the distinct modern and rustic touches that added hints of Texas charm. We love that Katie channeled a beachy boho vibe with a lace, off-the-shoulder Jane Hill gown, and minimal accessories, while Ethan went for a classic Bonobos suit and vibrant tie. Everything about this Texas wedding was perfectly boho, tropical, and modern, and Jacy Hermes Photography captured it all with an impeccable attention to detail!

The Couple:

Katie and Ethan

The Wedding:

Prospect House, Dripping Springs, Texas

We wanted more of a contemporary tropical vibe because, at first, we were thinking about getting married in Cabo. We ended up wanting to get married in our home state and use Cabo as a inspiration for decor.

Knowing I wanted to incorporate more of a tropical theme, my eyes went to the dresses that were boho/traditional. I love lace but didn’t want the more traditional lace dresses. I felt like the dress I choose had a more modern lace design. I ended up adding armbands out of the same lace and that was probably my favorite part. They were detachable so I took them off during the dancing portion of the night. I also wore my dream shoes, which are the Valentino Garavani Rockstuds in nude.

The first thing that Ethan and I said when we started wedding planning was we wanted everyone to feel comfortable and have a blast! A venue that didn’t feel stuffy was huge for us. We also wanted delicious food and fun music.

Our ceremony was extremely special to us. Texas summers are hot, but we still wanted to have our ceremony outside. The weather seriously could not have been nicer! The wind picked up right when I started walking down the aisle with my dad, which brought cooler weather but also a spiritual feel. Ethan‘s dad — whom we dearly love and respect — was our officiant. He blessed us with tender and loving words from his heart and from the Bible. Having him as our officiant was a huge part of our ceremony. We also wanted to include our friends in the ceremony, so I had two lifelong friends read scripture that was special to them in their marriages.

We had the best time working with our photographer, Jacy, and her husband Dakota. They gave great direction but were so chill and very swift while taking wedding party pictures, which really appreciated. The thing that we keep on telling people months after our wedding is how much we enjoyed working with our photographer. I knew in the first few minutes in talking to Jacy I needed her as our wedding photographer. I’m so grateful it worked out!

Boho Glam Phoenix Wedding at The Croft Downtown with a Cozy Twist

October 14, 2018 | Junebug Weddings

Brooke and Steven are giving us all the cozy boho vibes in their Phoenix wedding at The Croft Downtown. From the bride’s long-sleeve lace dress from Dreamers & Lovers to the handmade macrame sweetheart backdrop from Woven by Ro to the vintage glam décor accents, every inch of this wedding was a boho-chic dream come true. Angelic Grove helped the couple set the stage for a truly romantic celebration with loads of ambient candlelight and stunning florals that ranged from moody reds to soft pinks. Olivia Markle Photography and Kayla Esparza nailed it in capturing this dreamy downtown wedding!

The Couple:

Brooke and Steven

The Wedding:

The Croft Downtown, Phoenix, Arizona

The absolute most important thing for us was creating an atmosphere where our guests felt comfortable, loved, appreciated and cherished. We wanted everyone in the room to know that we love them so dearly and they all played an integral part in our relationship. With every big decision that we made, we always asked ourselves, “Will this make our friends and family feel loved?” If it did, it was an immediate green light to commit!

We were definitely going for a moody bohemian feel with our style! I’ve always been a huge fan of Dreamers & Loversand fantasized about wearing one of their dresses on my wedding day. So, my dress was a literal dream come true! I love how it was the perfect combination of long-sleeve, unique lace, and open back (with mesh). Also, it was dance-floor friendly, which was a huge necessity. I basically drooled the second I laid eyes on it!

As soon as the ceremony began and Steven walked down the aisle, our guests started cheering like crazy! The entire room was roaring for all of the bridal party as they entered the room — it seriously sounded like a concert was going on, and I loved every second of it. It was the most incredible moment of realizing what a celebration our wedding day was and how wild our love is!

I’d like to take this moment and quote the cheesiest home decor piece that everyone knows: “Live, Laugh, Love.” Don’t forget to live in the moment, laugh like there’s no tomorrow, and love the heck out of each other!

We had an amazing macrame arch (made by Woven by Ro) that was placed behind us during the reception. Knowing that this macrame arch was a special piece, Steven reached out to Robyn and had her make a custom macrame piece to hang in our first home together, as a constant reminder of our big day.

Colorful and Crafty California Wedding at The Living Desert

October 13, 2018 | Junebug Weddings

We’re taking a walk on the wild side today with Missy and Kevin’s Palm Springs wedding at The Living Desert! This wedding day was full of fun surprises, from the bride’s unique first look accessory to the reptiles and birds that made an appearance during cocktail hour. Although this was a non-traditional venue, the vibrant pops of color and texture made it the perfect place for a laid-back, cozy, and community-focused celebration. We adore Missy’s chic lace BHLDN gown and Kevin’s pop of salmon and floral print, which made both of their looks elegant yet perfectly whimsical for their unique day. Photographer Emily Star Poole did a phenomenal job capturing every DIY detail and heartfelt moment of this Palm Springs wedding!

The Couple:

Missy and Kevin

The Wedding:

The Living Desert, Palm Springs, California

A wedding is for love, and one cannot love alone. We wanted both of us to be represented throughout the day, even though I was decidedly more wedding-crazy than Kevin. He is not big on ceremony and probably would have preferred to get married without all the hoopla. So in honor of Kevin‘s humor and laid-back personality, we made the day fun! There were kazoos, zoo animals, and churros. We didn’t worry about traditions that were not meaningful to us (like the garter toss), and there were some details we kept simple (we just got a cake from Albertson’s). We both enjoyed ourselves throughout the entire day.

As a special homage to Kevin‘s sense of humor and love of Mr. Bean, I found a Rowan Atkinson mask online and topped it with my mother’s gorgeous 80s veil for the first look. As I snuck up on Kevin, our photographer let out a giggle. Kevin said, “Is she wearing a mask?” How did he know?! He turned around and laughed hysterically none the less. It was the perfect way to laugh together and get over any pre-wedding jitters.

I grew up visiting The Living Desert. It is a place that holds many happy memories for my family. I know every colorful nook and vibrant cranny as though it was my own backyard! Kevin is a biology teacher, so he was thrilled to find out that a portion of the proceeds goes toward animal conservation. And having animal ambassadors visit during the cocktail hour was a huge plus!

The desert is a surprisingly vivid place if you look closely. Tiny pops of color exist in the petite flowers that bloom in spring, and an entire palette of colors exist in the ever-changing sky. We chose bright red from the red rock, orange from the sunset, and teal from the cool desert shadows. These colors are all reflected in the rug that hung from the arch during the ceremony.

Choose what you love! We’ve been to many weddings with string quartets or gentle vocals. We decided to go with a local bluegrass band instead. They played our favorite songs and set the tone for our flower girls to walk down the aisle playing “Here Comes the Bride” on kazoos. If you love laughing and being silly, make your wedding that way! Don’t worry about what anyone else thinks.

I love to craft, so DIY was a huge part of the wedding. For my first project, I sewed colorful heating packs that said “warm hugs” on the front as thank you gifts for my bridesmaids. I also painted the invitations and thank you cards, then made copies of them at Kinko’s. Kevin addressed the envelopes in his beautiful calligraphy. I made our wedding arch out of PVC pipe and spray painted it to hold a rug backdrop. And, finally, I cut 275 party favor pyramid boxes with my Silhouette cutter and Kevin made several tea mixes for the tea bags inside. All the DIY helped us save money, but it was a lot of work. Recruit all the help you can if you decide to go this route.

Emily Poole, our photographer, was an absolute joy to work with. She was positive, light-hearted, and patient. Her style is crisp and ethereal, and she has an eye for candid moments. We are so grateful she was there to capture our wedding!
