Boho Chic Bougainvillea-Inspired Wedding at Monnaber Mallorca

March 6, 2019 | Junebug Weddings

Marietta and Jose’s destination wedding at Monnaber Mallorca felt like stepping straight into a fairytale! Their incredibly talented planner and florist from Mille Papillons helped the couple bring together the bohemian vibe of the woods with the elegance of an old-world villa using a palette inspired by the greenery of the Spanish landscape and brilliant pops of pink bougainvillea in every nook and cranny. Marietta also channeled woodland-bohemia vibes with an intricate lace gown from Ecliptic Isla and flower crown that matched the rest of the decor. From forest ceremony to garden reception, HUMÀ 06 was there to capture every romantic moment of this gorgeous Mallorca wedding!

The Couple:

Marietta and Jose

The Wedding:

Monnaber Mallorca, Spain

When we started planning our wedding, we knew that we wanted to do something very unique, something different from the weddings people usually do in Puerto Rico. Since Spain is our favorite country, we decided to celebrate our wedding there, capturing the essence of the Spanish culture that we love so much. Because Jose’s uncle owns a house in Soller, we decided that Mallorca was the special place for our wedding as Jose visited the house for a few summers and remembers the island fondly.

We have always loved an eclectic style with a little bit of boho chic. We wanted the wedding to seem as if we took vintage furniture from the inside of the finca and placed it outside. That was why we placed different kinds of chairs in a big, long wooden table with uncoordinated plates and also we included lounge areas with rustic furniture next to a chimney. We wanted the style of the wedding to appear as if the decoration wasn’t coordinated but in fact, there was harmony between the decoration selected.

There are so many good feelings and memories, embraced by the ones we love most. We’re so grateful to have experienced one of the best days ever with our family and close friends in the magical island of Majorca. It was the perfect combination of sharing, kindness, and spreading love between each other!

Think outside the box and have the wedding of your dreams! We knew that by doing a wedding so far from Puerto Rico, we would have to accept not having all of our loved ones there. But we also knew that we wanted a unique wedding with our favorite things, and that was what we got with a wonderful group of guests that could join us. Your wedding day is for you and your partner, and that is the only thing that matters!

We wanted to have as much Spanish entertainment as possible. We booked Panela Productions for the entire weekend. Paco delighted us with all his talents, including a classical instrument trio, a flamenco guitar duet, a live band, and a DJ. Our wedding was celebrated on Father’s Day in Puerto Rico and, as a gift to my father, I decided to dance with him to a famous song for daughters and fathers, “Mi Niña Bonita” by Vicente Fernandez. For the first dance, we selected our all-time favorite song, “Robarle Tiempo al Tiempo” by Café Quijano.

This Bohemian Arkansas Elopement at Buffalo Outdoor Center Included the Couple’s Dog as Their Witness

March 5, 2019 | Junebug Weddings

Gracie and Mo’s sweet elopement at the Buffalo Outdoor Center and their story of “the year of weddings” has us seriously reconsidering the idea that your wedding day has to be just that, one day! The couple, who are planning a more traditional wedding for later this year, got to also plan a bohemian elopement with only their trusty dog by their side. With The Dogwood Collective in tow, they went back to where it all started near the Buffalo River to exchange vows and eat cinnamon rolls in the grass. Sonnet Weddings made sure every last detail, from the autumnal florals designed by Faith Hundley to the mini tent and picnic set up, had the bohemian vibe Gracie loves and reflected the couple’s laid-back personalities.

The Wedding:

Buffalo Outdoor Center, Ponca, Arkansas

Our actual legit wedding date hasn’t happened yet. We got engaged in Santa Fe, NM where my fiance’s godfather lives, and he told us that we’d have multiple weddings during this season. I laughed and didn’t really know what he meant! That night at our engagement party, he had a surprise dinner guest: a Buddhist monk…to marry us! He recited the Loving- Kindness Mantras then we said a few vows. We still have the marriage certificate.; we just haven’t signed it.

When we got home to Arkansas, a photographer reached out to us about doing an elopement. It was such a sweet gift and I thought back to the comment of, ” You’ll have multiple weddings during this season.” Mo and I traveled in a van for 18 months and everyone thought we’d just elope on our trip. I’ve always dreamed of a bohemian elopement but I know that having an actual wedding with friends and family would be special. So, I got to have my cake and eat it too!

I want my actual wedding day to be more traditional and classic but I love a good bohemian elopement and I’m so excited that I get both. Why do weddings just have to be one day? We’re making it a year of multiple celebrations rather than putting it all in one day!

The most important part of planning the elopement to me was making sure that it was 100% us and at a spot that’s special to us. We picked the Buffalo River because that’s where our first date was almost 6 years ago and where we found our dog almost 4 years ago. An elopement there is perfect!

Our best advice? Do you. My parents cringe when I say we’re having multiple weddings. At the end of the day, it’s you and your partner. Wear the dress you want, have the flowers you like, eat the food you like. It’s not about them; it’s your day!

I think the most memorable part of the day was waking up, starting a fire and just relaxing. You don’t get to do that at a big wedding. I think that’s what’s so special about elopements.

We just had music in the background at the elopement and will have a band for the big wedding. Mo has a great Spotify playlist that we’ve been adding to throughout the years, which is of course what we were listening to.

This Sophisticated Black and White Wedding at Villa & Vine is Giving Us Old Hollywood Vibes

March 4, 2019 | Junebug Weddings

Rebecca and Michael’s California wedding at Villa & Vine reminded us that there are few things as romantic and timeless as a black tie, old Hollywood inspired wedding! Using the bride’s DIY paper goods, the bridesmaids’ handmade floral arrangements, and a classic black and white color palette, Ann Johnson Events created an outdoor affair that celebrated the couple’s love for each other and their community in the most beautiful way. In keeping with the sophisticated vibe of the venue, the bride also channeled Hollywood glam with a Louvienne gown and all of their guests dressed in black for a truly chic look. Katie Ruther Photography did a fantastic job capturing the heart and the soul of this timeless California wedding!

The Couple:

Rebecca and Michael

The Wedding:

Villa & Vine, Santa Barbara, California

The most memorable part of the day has to be our first look. I (Rebecca) was somewhat hesitant to have a first look, wanting that walking down the aisle, first time seeing each other moment…but, I am so glad that I was convinced otherwise. It really was one of the only moments throughout the day of our wedding that it got to be just the two of us. Being able to share that moment without anyone else being around, it really made any nerves that were there subside. It made the day feel that much more romantic and really just solidified that I was marrying my best friend.

Neither Michael nor I are very religious, but we did want to add elements of tradition into our ceremony. My boss, Jenn, married Michael and me, and she had individuals we are very close with perform the traditional Sheva Brachot (The Seven Blessings).

Villa & Vine is the only place we went and toured and booked it that same day. Michael and I are both pretty easy going and decisive, it just felt like the right choice for our wedding..and it totally was! Our color palette was white and black with touches of green throughout the entire venue. Clean, simple and classic. We had all of our guests wear black, which made the wedding have an added element of sophistication to it.

I designed all of the paper goods myself, (thanks, Pinterest!), and two of my bridesmaids did all of the florals. I feel really lucky to have such creative and helpful friends that just wanted to make our wedding day that much more memorable.

Michael and I didn’t have any surprises for one another, but we did have a surprise for both of our parents.  We had our DJ play both sets of parents first dance songs from their own weddings to dance in front of the crowd. Both of our parents are still married and have been for over 25 years! It felt really special for us to acknowledge them and their love and marriages.
