This Waterfront Prince Edward County Wedding is the Definition of Idyllic

June 20, 2019 | Junebug Weddings

If you’re looking for outdoor elegance done right, look no further than this Prince Edward County wedding! Marina and Jhase took full advantage of their waterfront Airbnb venue, Cressy House, setting up the ceremony right on the lake and their reception in a huge tent in the middle of the property. To complement the lush gardens, Floralora Flowers designed tall centerpieces, hanging installations, and bouquets in the prettiest summery colors, all with an air of organic whimsy. We’re absolutely in love with Marina’s two-piece Rime Arodaky ensemble, which featured floral appliques, that was as summer-chic as they come. From first look to first dance, photographer Christine Lim did a marvelous job capturing every moment of this Prince Edward County wedding!

The Couple:

Marina and Jhase

The Wedding:

Cressy House, Prince Edward County, Ontario, Canada

It was really important to us that our wedding reflected the past 8 years of our relationship. We wanted a low key celebration in an idyllic setting by the water, surrounded by our closest friends and family with a great party and top notch food!

Our ceremony was hands down the best part of our day! We wanted our ceremony to match the rest of our day by feeling relaxed, intimate, and personal. We chose to read and write our own vows to each other. Our vows truly reflected our story and our love for one another, which we believed we couldn’t get from reading traditional vows.

Marina also surprised me by having the DJ play one of our favourite songs, fittingly is called “Wedding Song” by Yeah Yeah Yeahs, while I waited for her to walk down the aisle. I’m usually a pretty stoic person but it definitely gave me the chills and really brought the emotions out.

We hired one of our favourite restauranteurs from Toronto to do the food. He essentially cooked all of it on an open fire, which was amazing. He was able to provide us with some of our favourite cocktails and dishes in a family style type offering.

Processional – “Maps” by Yeah Yeah Yeahs
Recessional – “Sugar” by Maroon 5
First Dance – “Use Somebody” by Kings of Leon

7-8 Months

  • Start your wedding beauty inspiration Pinterest board or binder
  • Set your beauty budget
  • Research local hair stylists and makeup artists to get price lists and find out if they go on-location for weddings
  • Decide whether to cut your hair or grow it out for the wedding day
  • If you want to increase your energy and/or tone up for the big day, choose and start a workout plan that makes you feel good

5-6 Months

  • Request hair and makeup consultations with salons/artists you’re interested in to help make your final decision
  • Schedule hair and makeup for the wedding day
  • Schedule a trial run with the hair/makeup teams 1-2 months before the big day
  • Visit a dermatologist if you have any skin concerns you’d like to clear up and to set up a skincare routine

3-4 Months

  • Try out any new body or skin treatments to see how your skin reacts
  • Decide if you’d like to try to grow or reshape your brows — if yes, consider consulting with a brow specialist
  • If you’ve never had a spray tan, test it out so you’ll know how it will look
  • Get a facial to start prepping your skin to look its best
  • Opt for proper teeth whitening tray kits like the custom ones available from Sporting Smiles

1-2 Months

  • Finalize your wedding day beauty look (including hair accessories) in your trial run appointments

1 Week

  • Confirm all beauty appointments
  • Get a wax
  • Splurge on one more facial so you’re glowing on the big day
  • Put together your wedding day beauty emergency kit (anything you might need for touch-ups)

  • Wash and deep condition your hair for the last time before the wedding
  • Get at least 8 hours of sleep

Casual Wedding Fashion Never Looked Cooler Than This California Ranch Wedding

June 19, 2019 | Junebug Weddings

If you’re a fan of casual wedding fashion, Lane and Bobby’s wedding in Northern California is about to make all your dreams come true! The DIY celebration took place at Bobby’s family ranch and was full of non-traditional charm that spoke the couple’s carefree personalities. They had a self-solemnized ceremony in the middle of a field, had the entire wedding party wear casual white attire, and even set up camping tents for their guests to stay on property. As if all that wasn’t fun enough, the couple also hand-painted animal place card holders for every guest and dyed their own napkins. To say this wedding was cool would be an understatement, and photographer Britt Crowe was the perfect choice to capture the laid-back vibes of this special day!

The Couple:

Lane and Bobby

The Wedding:

Private Ranch, Healdsburg, California

The most memorable part of the day was when it started to come time to gather, we were getting ready upstairs and I had just come back from a trail run to clear my head and I could hear Bobby’s favorite song playing over the sound system set up on the lawn, like a love song, drifting in through the open window. When the guests started to arrive, seeing them appear alongside the pool as if out of a Disney movie, all dressed in white carrying our Chinese paper parasols, I realized our dream had come true.

We wrote our ceremony from scratch and chose to self-marry, without an officiant. So we handed a notebook back and forth and read each part of our ceremony to one another. We blessed the land, honored the sun, moon, told stories about how we met, honored both sets of parents, and family gone before us. It was romantic and special and teary.

Our advice: simplify, simplify, simplify. You can save money and headache by doing less. Cut out what doesn’t truly mean something to you. That way it will feel authentic for everyone without (as much of) a fuss.
