This Hangar 21 Wedding Inspiration Shoot Shows Off Industrial Romantic Vibes in a Non-Traditional Setting

June 29, 2019 | Junebug Weddings

Industrial vibes got an ultra romantic and modern upgrade in this styled shoot at Hangar 21 in Southern California! The team at Blush & Bloom Events pulled out all the stops for the design with a muted grass and floral ceremony backdrop, a black and gold signature cocktail bar, a modern take on the dessert bar, and minimal boho-inspired details to fill it all in. The bouquets and installations created by fleur.ish created the most romantic feel in the otherwise blank, industrial space, and the bride’s incredible THEIA Bridal gown and cape from Camilla Christine Bridal took that romantic look right over the top. This styled shoot was super sweet (literally and figuratively) from beginning to end, and Seth & Co Photography captured every angle beautifully!

Artistic Texas Wedding at Four River Ranch with a Dose of Laid-Back Glamour

June 29, 2019 | Junebug Weddings

Between the Disney villain-inspired bridal look and the DIY details made by the bride and talented friends, Heather and Lance’s wedding at Four River Ranch was truly a day to remember! This outdoor venue was the ideal backdrop for a non-traditional celebration that was full of love, full quirky details, and full of surprises. Even the flowers designed by Magic Hour Marfa and the bride’s hairstyle were a surprise! Heather and Lance added their personal touch with bohemian and vintage-inspired details that looked stunning against the rustic Texas landscape, and Christina Childress Photography did a phenomenal job capturing every angle!

The Couple:

Heather and Lance

The Wedding:

Four River Ranch, Mineral Wells, Texas

We wanted to be outside somewhere beautiful, bring our own food and drinks, and just have a badass party with a live band and no curfew. Easier said than done when you live in the city! Most official venues that fit the bill were outrageously expensive and/or too far from hotels to be convenient. We found this converted dude ranch, owned by artists, on a location scouting website. It was picturesque, right on the Brazos River, with a cool history. Back in the ’60s, it hosted the likes of John Wayne and Ronald Reagan. It was a couple of hours from Dallas where we live but came with 15 furnished guest rooms so our close friends and family could stay the night.

My sister-in-law Ren is an incredible spiritual leader, and she wrote the entire ceremony for us. She blended traditions from our German and Irish heritage including an opening meditation for guests, a handfasting and wedding cup ceremony, even a few magic spells for us to perform throughout the night.

I’m an artist so DIYing things was by far my favorite part of the planning. I started on the invitations practically the day we got engaged, I made our macrame backdrop, our hand-fasting cord and our officiant Ren’s stole, and our woven sun and moon chair backers. We arranged all the vendors and rentals, and all our friends pitched in the day-of to help us set up.

I wanted to look like a Disney villain. Basically, sleek and witchy, but I’m also quite cheap and wedding dresses are so overpriced. I ended up ordering a few simple white dresses from Shopbop and my favorite happened to be on sale. I picked up some chiffon that matched the dress and had a local seamstress make my cape. My shoes were a splurge (Valentino) but technically they were also on sale, and I’ve worn them again and again, so it was worth it! We didn’t have an official wedding party, but almost all our friends showed up wearing black, making it look planned. It was so perfect!

Hardly anything will go exactly as you plan. Embrace the chaos! Case in point: it was hot the day of our wedding, and we scoped out the precise spot for our ceremony a day in advance to make sure the sun wouldn’t be in our eyes and because our photographer said it was important for us both to be in shade. When I walked down the aisle, the first thing I saw was Lance squinting uncomfortably at me with light blazing directly in his face, with beads of sweat rolling down his cheek. It was actually really funny and kind of cut the pressure of having the night go perfectly. Just remember you’re there to have fun, and none of the details ultimately matter!

There were so many surprises throughout the day. We have such talented friends, so we left as much as we could in their hands and got to experience it all with our guests as it happened. We figured out the key vendors and logistics beforehand, then left the details up to them. So the florals, the place settings, our first songs with our parents, even my hairstyle was a surprise.

My favorite memory from the wedding was late at night. The bartenders and photographers had left but the party was still going strong, so I changed back into my shorts, Lance hopped behind the bar to make drinks, and we kept the party going until morning.

Get Your Modern Greenery Inspiration from This Chic Los Angeles Millwick Wedding

June 28, 2019 | Junebug Weddings

When asked what the theme of their Millwick wedding would be, Madeline and Steven had the most perfect, simple response: “The theme is us! There’s going to be a disco ball and tacos, oh and lots of fun.” Everything about this day, which Jessica Foster Event Planning helped create and photographer Jes Workman documented, felt completely original! The venue itself was full of charm that spoke to the couple’s style, such as a disco ball, greenery everywhere, and worn architecture. With modern decor, special treats for their guests, and a ceremony full of personal touches, Madeline and Steven created a day worthy of and representative of their love. This wedding was full of modern wedding inspiration from beginning to end!

The Couple:

Madeline and Steven

The Wedding:

Millwick, Los Angeles, California

Steven and I have been together for almost 12 years, and we’ve developed incredible relationships with our friends and family along the way. We wanted our wedding to be a celebration of not only us but the people who have supported us in every step of our relationship.

We almost skipped our Millwick viewing appointment because I didn’t feel like getting married so close to home would be “special” enough. I was wrong! We fell in love with Millwick the second we walked through the door, and the beyond helpful staff really sealed our decision. Millwick felt like us. It had a huge disco ball, beautiful brick, and there were gorgeous plants everywhere. Even just the bare bones of the place without any decor felt like it was made for just us.

To start off the ceremony, Steven led everyone in an exercise he likes to do to keep himself present. Basically, he had our guests raise their hands out and take a second to look at their hands in the space around them to really feel present. It’s something we do together to help us remember important moments and it really works! It was so special that he got to teach that exercise to all of our favorite people that day.

We asked our friend, N’tima, to officiate. She helped Steven plan our engagement in Japan at these gorgeous waterfalls near Mount Fuji, and even snapped the photo of Steven down on one knee. She had been a big part of our engagement, and we wanted her to officiate the next chapter of our lives. It doesn’t hurt that she’s also an incredible writer.

While my brother and a friend read poems they chose to share during the ceremony, our ring box was passed around to our guests. We asked them to put their good wishes into our rings as they passed through their hands, so you’ll see a few photos of guests holding our ring box. Right after our vows, we snapped an Instax photo and sealed it in an envelope to open on our first anniversary. Steven was a little nervous and definitely took the photo upside down, but I’m very excited to see it this November.

We exited our ceremony arm in arm and once we were out of sight I couldn’t help but shriek “WE’RE MARRIED” as Steven picked me up and spun me around. We took that moment and sobbed, laughed, said everything we had wanted to say to each other all day, and once we felt like we were the only people on earth our entire bridal party body slammed us with love. It was overwhelming and perfect in every way!

Make rules for yourself and stick to them. I’m someone who gets overwhelmed with too many options, so I gave myself a rule of three. I’d narrow down every choice I had to make to three options and went with my gut on each one. We looked at three venues, I went to three dress shops, made a choice between three photographers, etc. THEN, once you make a decision, don’t look back. Trust your gut and move on to the next decision.
