We love when our vendors team up with other talented wedding pros to create magical wedding inspiration! This floral industrial styled shoot at Loft 1023 was just the inspo our creative hearts were looking for. Beautifully planned by Kylie Farmer Photography, we’re swooning over the bold floral arrangements by Petal to the Metal that pop against the deep red brick walls, the delicate yet geometric cake by Sweets and Treats by Victoria, and the bride’s tasseled gown from Flutter Dress. Every little detail ties together to create the perfectly boho edgy celebration!
Kylie’s Industrious Botanical Vision and Inspiration
I had this styled shoot planned for months prior to covid-19 rearing its ugly head. Thankfully, the shoot was scheduled right before the pandemic swept across the US in full force. Ironically enough, I was supposed to photograph the models’ actual wedding in April, but wasn’t able to do so thanks to the coronavirus. They elected to get married in their living room instead, and ended up with so many amazing photos from this styled shoot as a memory to look back on.
My inspiration for this shoot came from wanting a pop of color after the long (seemingly endless) dreary winter season that we just had. Hannah with Petal to the Metal brought my floral dreams to life, and Victoria with Sweets and Treats by Victoria made the most amazing cake.
If your venue or decor is on the minimal side, going bold with your cake design or adding an interesting topper to your cake can be a great way to add a little pop of color and fun!
Anna and Cory knew they wanted a simple and intimate wedding. The couple joined forces with friends and family to create an eco-friendly wedding at their barn-turned-home in Springdale, Arkansas. The couple—with the help of their planner Meredith Events—created an Earth-friendly day to remember using homegrown wildflowers, white linens, and biodegradable tableware. We’re so glad that LAYERS was there to capture the magic of the day.
Meredith’s Thoughts on Planning an Eco-Friendly Wedding
Anna and Cory had a low key wedding at their family home, which happens to have a beautiful barn on the property. They opted for an intimate morning ceremony where they served brunch to their guests directly after. This gave them several hours before the reception began to spend some quality time together and take a lot of beautiful photos. The reception took place that evening and more guests were invited.
It was so magical with the family dogs roaming in and out, their family and friends felt so at ease and comfortable since it was at the family home, and most of their vendors were their friends (talented friends!). Even the lead singer in their band was one of the groomsmen.
As a planner, I was skeptical of the “morning ceremony” with a break in the middle of the day, but I must admit I loved this format. Everyone was able to relax after that and it gave LAYERS so much time to create the best image captures I have ever seen at a wedding.

The Bride’s Something Old
On the morning of my wedding, my mom surprised me with my late grandmother’s amazing ring that my grandpa made for her. He added a diamond every year that they were married, so it’s this beautiful big cluster of diamonds and it meant so much to me. It was the only accessory I wore.
Getting Married at Home
When my husband and I got engaged we started house hunting but could never find something we really loved. One night we were hanging out with my parents in their beautiful barn when we got the idea to turn half of it into a home for us to start our life together. They loved the idea and within a week we had contractors hired. The construction was finished a few months before the wedding and we wanted to share all of the love and hard work we put into it, so it was kind of a no-brainer to have the wedding at home.
The Most Memorable Part of the Wedding
The most memorable part of the day for us was seeing each other for the first time while I was walking down the aisle. Everyone immediately looked up to see Cory’s reaction, and as soon as he started crying the whole room was crying. By the time I got to him, there wasn’t a dry eye in the barn.
The DIY Wedding Team
We did almost everything for the wedding ourselves. Cory even designed a custom engagement ring for me based on some vintage rings that I loved. I hand-cut and painted our ceremony backdrop, we grew and arranged our own flowers, my husband is a chef and created our entire menu, our officiant was my husband’s barber, my best friend owns a salon and helped everyone with their hair, my in-laws helped us all summer with landscaping and cleaning out the barn. The whole wedding really was a team effort.
When it came time to plan a wedding, Nour and Tariq knew they didn’t want the grand traditional Arab wedding (which tend to be large, orchestrated events with over 400 guests.) Instead, they wanted something effortless, dreamy, and personal to them. Their enchanting glam affair at Six Senses Douro Valley was exactly that.
Friends and family traveled from 6 of the 7 continents to Portugal to celebrate the couple and witness the wedding of a lifetime. Photographer Richard Skins perfectly captured the bride’s royal-inspired Oscar de la Renta gown, the whimsical reception, and the fireworks that serendipitously went off later in the evening. With guests partying until 4 AM, Nour and Tariq’s wedding will be talked about for years to come!
Given that we both had been living in the US for the past 2 years, we wanted to pick a destination that lay between the Middle East and the US to make it easy on our friends and family who lived in both places to make the trip. We also knew that we wanted to go somewhere that a lot of people hadn’t been before, so they could make a vacation out of it as well. Portugal quickly became the obvious choice. Despite the Six Senses being one of the most luxurious hotel brands in the world, the Six Senses Douro Valley isn’t ostentatious. It’s not trying to show off. It builds on the beauty of its surroundings. The hotel is a 19th-century renovated manor house. Beautifully decorated and cool in a not-in-your-face kind of way. It is the most incredible hotel we’ve ever stayed in.
Looking back, we really wish we could do it all again. You only ever really get one day like this, and you don’t want the process to be hectic or stressful. We’d say pick three big elements that you really want to ensure are perfect, that matter to you the most—for example, the music, the food, and the table arrangements. If everything else goes wrong, that’s okay, you still got your big three! No one will really know anyway.
The Wedding Guests
The most memorable moment for us was probably knowing how many people flew all the way to be with us on our day. We had people from 6 continents – North America, South America, Asia, Europe, Australia (technically New Zealand), and Africa. We had a map put up where people could pin where they came from, and it was filled with pins across the globe. So many people traveled such a long way for us because we meant that much to them—that’s what made it memorable.
Wedding Day Surprises
Our wedding day coincided with a local Portuguese holiday. Fireworks lit up the sky at midnight as we were cutting our cake, and it made the entire day that much more memorable.
