I’ve said it before, and I’ll joyfully say it again, I simply love Mr. Angel Sanchez and his sculptural, modern, sophisticated wedding dress designs. From his exaggerated ruffles that look like the softest piece of architecture to his detailed, geometric approach to bling and embellishment, my imagination is always captured by the thought of how fabulous the Angel Sanchez bride will be on her wedding day!

Today’s Malibu wedding is the epitome of garden elegance! When Catherine and Cédric asked planner extraordinaire Lisa Gorjestani of Details Event Planning to help create an amazing day at the stunning Stone Manor in Malibu, they’d struck gold. I love all of the unique touches, floral designs with fresh succulents, and fancy signature cocktails inspired by the setting that were captured by Katie Robertson Photography.
What three adjectives best describe your wedding day?Elegant, relaxed and fun.
Was there a decor theme that ran through your wedding? What was the inspiration for that particular idea and how did it reflect you as a couple? We wanted to keep everything simple and elegant with the main focus on the food and good company. Birdcages were central pieces of our decor theme. We featured them as centerpieces at the dining tables and also scattered them throughout the grounds for decoration. Our favorite way to display them was to suspend them up in the trees and light them up at night by candle. They really provided a gorgeous backdrop for our reception.
What were some of the different ways you used decor elements to create the beautiful, cohesive event you were envisioning?A lot of the decor elements stemmed from the location itself. Our color palette was a combination of white and grey with hints of green and purple.
Where did you choose to hold your wedding, and how did the location influence your decor decisions? The location of our wedding was at Stone Manor, which is a beautiful private estate tucked away in the hills of Malibu. It has such a wonderful majestic feel that we let dictate everything else. The owners do a wonderful job of maintaining the grounds and gardens, so we didn’t feel the need to add much decor. We were inspired by the many succulent plants all over the property and incorporated them into our floral design.
Looking back, do you have a favorite project or successful decor idea from your wedding?During our cocktail hour we featured signature cocktails for which we still receive compliments. The greatest hit was the St. Germain Champagne Cocktail, which is champagne topped with a splash of Elderflower liqueur. The cocktail was garnished with a gardenia flower and a few specks of gold, it smelled and tasted like heaven!
Welcome to the beginning of spring Bridal Market week on What Junebug Loves! We’ll be reporting on the new wedding dress collections that just debuted in NYC – it’s going to be an exciting week of gorgeous gowns, new trends in bridal fashion, and designers we adore. Today the festivities begin with one of my very favorites, Oscar de la Renta. When I think of Mr. de la Renta’s wedding dresses, I think of lady-like confections with intricate embellishment, dimensional texture, and an eternally sophisticated feel. His designs make me want to reach out and touch every handcut flower, delicate piece of lace, and carefully folded ruffle.
Last week’s Oscar de la Renta show was even more exciting than ever because Oscar PR Girl “live-pinned” images to their Pinterest feed as fast as their photographers could take the photos. They snapped as the models were prepped backstage as well as during the actual show, so it was like having a backstage pass and a front-row seat to one of the hottest bridal tickets in town!

I’m completely transfixed by this ornate and regal headpiece that brings to mind a Spanish princess!

Oscar does little girls’ dresses just as beautifully as the big girls’!

I love the couture surprises that Oscar mixed into the collection. His crimson red wedding gown, cloud-like tulle cape, medieval-inspired frock and colorful floral dress are surprising and a little avant-guard, yet they still have that Oscar classic touch.

And this is what I mean when I say texture and detail! Mr. de la Renta uses the most intricate laces and fabrics; yet the balance is where his genius lies. Just look at those feathers, puffs, ruffles…

I loved the glimpses of what went on backstage! How fun to see all that goes into putting on a show of this caliber, and the handsome designer himself, putting finishing touches on each piece and giving final approval.

And finally, one bandwagon I WILL be jumping on! All of the girls were flaunting Oscar’s new “Larimar Blue” nail lacquer that will be available in October. The perfect “something blue” for the fashion forward bride.
