Waterfront Cape Cod Wedding

October 20, 2014 | Junebug Weddings

Greer-Austin-Henry-Mac-Photography-22

Greer and Austin’s waterfront Cape Cod wedding was perfectly punctuated by the crisp East Coast air and the sailboats off in the distance. As the couple planned their big day, they relied on their intuition to guide them to the right vendors. After discovering Chequessett Yacht Club near Austin’s childhood home on Cape Cod, everything fell into place. Simplicity clearly paid off because Greer is such an effortlessly beautiful bride and you can sense the serenity in their day through these images captured by Henry + Mac. We love how the pair decided to have their first look inside a school bus, which made for some totally fun and one-of-a-kind portraits.

The Couple: Greer and Austin

The Wedding: Chequessett Yacht Club, Wellfleet, MA

The Moment:Our first look is a moment in time I will forever relive. Our photographer had the genius idea to have our first look on the school bus we rented for guest transportation. Austin and I met on the bus going to high school, and included a bus on our save-the-dates. It was only fitting on our wedding day that we would meet on the school bus once again. After seeing each other, all of the butterflies turned into pure joy and I was able to relax in a way I never imagined I would.

The Inspiration:Austin and I live in rural, southwest NH, but are both originally from Dennis, MA on beautiful Cape Cod. After getting engaged, we looked at countless venues in our new stomping grounds. Each had their own unique qualities, but ultimately something was missing. It wasn’t until we moved our venue search back to the Cape when we found our perfect place — sometimes going home is the best thing you can do for your wedding. Chequessett Yacht Club in Wellfleet is the anti-yacht club, yacht club. When the tide is out, small boats sit beautifully on top of the sand like beached whales. Chequessett has the perfect blend of rustic, with classic, unspoiled Cape Cod beauty.

After choosing the venue and picking our date, it was time to nail down the rest of our vendors. Sometimes, you just know when you speak to someone and you jive. This is the feeling we were looking for when picking each vendor. My brother, who got married last year, gave us some sage advice. He said “if during the vetting process, the vendor isn’t responsive or you aren’t getting what you want, it’s not going to get better as time goes on.” So simple, yet it’s advice I would give to every bride. Choose vendors who are vying to work with you. Who give you timely responses when you’re getting estimates; who speak to you respectfully and put their best foot forward.

Flowers turned out to be the biggest part of my inspiration, which is ironic because I know practically nothing about flowers. After searching for wedding inspiration, I stumbled across a Brooklyn wedding online and the flowers were insanely beautiful. The Brooklyn wedding flowers served as my inspiration moving forward. Because we didn’t choose a wedding color palette in the traditional sense, the flowers served as our color palette and we planned much of our décor around them. It was all about texture. We used thistle, berries, billy balls mixed with soft garden roses in creams, purple, yellow and red hues; seasonal, without being overly autumnal. When you’re surrounded by so much natural beauty, it was important for us that the flowers enhanced the setting without being overdone. The flowers also inspired our invitations.

Cool Chicago Engagement Session

October 20, 2014 | Junebug Weddings

Calli-Kidd-Bellow-Blue-Photography-7

The right location can take an engagement session from a handful of portraits to something unforgettable. Calli and Kidd’s cool Chicago engagement session at BOKA Restaurant and Bar did exactly that. Husband and wife team BellowBlue Photography kicked things up a notch by capturing the couple’s love and style, while also creating stunning pieces of art. We love how BellowBlue worked with balancing elements of dark and light as the session went on.

Calli and Kidd are a beautiful couple, but what really took us over the edge are their adorable pups. Here at Junebug we love when the family pets get in on the wedding action, and these two dogs made for such a fun ending to the couple’s session with BellowBlue.

Relaxed Southern Wedding in North Carolina

October 20, 2014 | Junebug Weddings

Matney-Ben-Rob-Kristen-Photography-38

Matney and Ben are a laid-back Southern couple who love their family and homemade dessert. If that’s not a recipe for a pretty wedding, I don’t know what is. Snipes Farm Retreat provided the perfect setting for the ceremony, portraits, and reception of Matney and Ben’s relaxed Southern wedding, all beautifully captured by husband and wife team Rob + Kristen Photography. The light in these images is truly magical, and Matney and Ben’s love shines so brightly. Matney describes herself as an non-fussy bride, and we love how her low-key spirit makes the details of their wedding really stand out.

The Couple: Matney and Ben

The Wedding: Snipes Farm Retreat, Chapel Hill, North Carolina

The Moments: “Our ceremony was my absolute favorite moment of the day. It was truly a family affair – because we had no wedding party, Ben’s parents walked in with him and my parents walked me down the aisle together. My sister-in-law was our officiant, my brother read a poem, Ben’s brother and my sister handed us our rings, and Ben’s sister and her boyfriend played the fiddle and banjo. At one point during our ceremony, Katie, my sister-in-law, asked us to turn and face our guests so we could see all of the people that had come to support us and celebrate our marriage. It was such a special moment and is certainly one that we will treasure for years to come. My favorite reception detail was our cake – homemade by my mom using my grandmother’s pound cake recipe (my all time favorite dessert!).

The Inspiration: “We wanted our wedding to feel really relaxed and easy and not too formal or fussy. We tried hard to put more effort into the details that guests would remember and not to stress about the little things (I’m hoping that not too many people remember eating off of plastic plates!). Our venue, an old dairy farm, was absolutely beautiful on its own and didn’t require too much extra decor or attention. We brought in a ton of potted plants and flowers to add color and chose simple, classic table settings. We also chose good ol’ North Carolina barbeque that was sure to be a people pleaser! We also chose not to have a wedding party – no bridesmaids or groomsman, ring bearers or flower girls. It was just the two of us which felt so special and intimate. It also meant a little extra room in the budget for my dream dress!

The Couple Recommends: “All of our vendors were exceptional and went above and beyond. They each made our wedding day feel so seamless and easy! I would highly recommend Rob + Kristen – they were so great to work with and I felt like they shared our vision for our wedding photos. Their turn around time for the photos was quick and the pictures were beautiful.
