Relaxed and Fun Isla Mujeres Wedding

February 2, 2015 | Junebug Weddings

Barbie Hull Photography

Punxsutawney Phil may have just predicted six more weeks of winter, but Angéle and Andrew’s Isla Mujeres wedding is heating things up. We love that the couple avoided any stress of not meeting the professionals for their destination wedding ahead of time by bringing down their favorite vendors from Seattle with them to Mexico. Barbie Hull and Andy Shepard ventured across the continent to capture the tropical and romantic beach wedding, including adorable moments with the couple’s son during the ceremony!

The Couple:

Angéle and Andrew

The Wedding:

Privilege Aluxes, Isla Mujeres, Mexico

The Inspiration:

Because it was destination wedding on a beach, we really wanted everything to reflect that- the decor, the vibe, our fashion, the drinks and so forth. Effortless, not stiff. Warm, not formal. Eclectic, not “perfect” though to us- it was!

The Moments:

We share the same moment — when my dad walked me down the aisle, our son ran to me from his place with Andrew to help his grandpa walk me down the rest of the way. So many tears!

The Couple Recommends:

Debra Hedeen! She took my post-baby-still-breastfeeding-bought dress and altered it as if it was made for my wedding body. She worked with me until it was perfect. And made my veil too!

Barbie Hull! from shooting our engagement photos in the middle of a fair to the wedding day to the two separate post-wedding shootings- the private catamaran and the trash the dress- she and Andy from Andy Shepard Photography were so FUN and got our vision. They were more like talented friends with really nice cameras than photographers we didn’t feel comfortable with. So much joie de vivre!

Anchored Memories! Bobby and Amy are a husband and wife team that are the best wedding videographers ever. Just like with our photographers, we felt such an ease and friendship with them. I still cry every single time I watch the video!

The photos and video were most important to us and we are so happy with who we chose. Doing a destination wedding from afar and planning it by yourself is super daunting, so taking both of these teams from home with us down is something I would recommend to any destination bride. We all got to experience it together and that definitely lent itself to their creative processes.

Fun and Quirky Wedding in England

February 2, 2015 | Junebug Weddings

Quirky-English-Wedding-Claire-Penn-25

We know Mondays can be a little rough, so here’s something delightful that is sure to make you smile. Your wedding should be one of the best days of your life, and Lucy and Phil truly took this sentiment to heart when planning their fun and quirky wedding in England. The pair threw tradition out the window when they decided to incorporate duck feeding, a flash mob, and a giant moon bounce into their celebration. As if the purple, blue, yellow, and green color palette weren’t colorful enough, the talented Claire Penn Photography captured absolutely vibrant images and moments throughout the day.

The Couple:

Lucy and Phil

The Inspiration:

The inspiration was ourselves … not in a WE LOVE OURSELVES kind-of-way, just in a “we want a day that WE are going to enjoy” kind-of-way. So we just thought about all of things that we like: we like playing games, feeding ducks at the pond, taking photos, eating Pieminister pies, quirky bits and bobs, looking cool and being with friends and family. We wanted people to know that they were at Lucy and Phil‘s wedding and so we just planned to do all of our favourite things in one day (apart from watching films, we thought that would be a little anti-social).

We didn’t really go for a theme, but our wonderful photographer Claire really hit the nail on the head when she described it as a Village Fete Wedding. We had lots of games around, tin can alley, lucky dip, skittles, splat the rat, hook a duck, Pin the Bow Tie on Phil, and of course, a bouncy castle. Our marquee was set up with long tables with gingham tablecloths, wildflowers in jars and wooden chairs. The long tables were important to us, we wanted to feel part of the wedding, not on display for everyone to watch us eat!

The Moments:

We couldn’t think of anything worse than wobbling around on a dance floor, awkwardly kissing every now and then, it’s just not our style. So after a lot of deliberation, we chose Pharrell’s “Happy” which we knew would just perfectly sum up our feelings of the day, and we got our friends and family involved. A few weeks before the wedding, we emailed some guests who we knew wouldn’t be able to turn down an opportunity to be part of a flash mob!

So, our favourite moment from the wedding was dancing … behind us a load of giddy friends and family bouncing around on the dance floor with us to a routine that we had all learned … in front of us a load of friends and family grinning, clapping and singing along. It was a moment of such joy for everyone in that room, that’s all that we could have ever hoped for.

The Couple Recommends:

We just loved being with Claire from Claire Penn Photography all day, she was a delight to have around and felt like one of the family. Alison from Silly Old Sea Dog who made our Bridesmaid’s dresses is such a wonderful woman! So accommodating and helpful, managing to find the perfect material and even making a bow tie for Phil, what a dream! Lindsey Bellis at Hair by Lindsey was such a chilled out perfectionist, if that’s possible?! Just the kind of person that you want around just before you get married.
