Modern Romantic Cleveland Wedding at Redspace

April 21, 2016 | editorial team

Allison and Rory’s Cleveland wedding at Redspace showcased the gritty, industrial beauty the city has to offer. Both Allison and Rory grew up in Cleveland, so they wanted their wedding to have a distinctively Midwest feel. They wanted their day to feel natural and organic, and Redspace ended up being the perfect raw event space to make that happen. Photographers Mallory + Justin captured all the magic of the modern urban affair, and Allison and Rory even had their wedding day transportation, Lolly the Trolley, stop at a gas station for a last minute beer run before the reception!

One of my best friends Megan designed all of our printed material – invitations, menus, programs. She hand painted every invitation (a huge task as we invited 330 people!) with water colors. Each was slightly different – it was an incredible gift.

From the Groom: It’s cliche, but seeing Allison walk down the aisle was the most memorable part of the day. All I could see were silhouette’s until Allison and her parent’s were close to the alter. It was a glow of light, kind of dramatic in such a big church. When I finally could see her, I was really emotional – she looked absolutely beautiful.

We focused a lot of energy on making sure our wedding day was relaxed for our families and guests. We wanted things to feel natural and organic, not only the ambiance, but the flow of events. We wanted our reception to feel like a cool, stylish dinner party.

Mallory + Justin were so calming, organized and professional. Our reception started a mere 30 minutes after our ceremony and we did not do a first look, so we blocked out roughly an hour to get all post church photos finished–it was a tight time frame. That time of the day in particular impressed me as they got every single shot we wanted and others we didn’t know we wanted in less than hour, without an ounce of stress. It was a blast!

While we currently live in Washington, D.C., we both grew up in Cleveland and wanted our wedding to have a distinctively Midwest, “rust belt” feel to it. We had guests coming in from all over the country and it was important to us to showcase the gritty, industrial beauty of Cleveland.

Adorable Portuguese Picnic Wedding at Monserrate Palace

April 20, 2016 | editorial team

Adorable-Portuguese-Picnic-Wedding-Monserrate-Palace-43

Diane and Jason wanted a simple and elegant wedding; they wanted to focus on the adventure they were starting together rather than getting caught up on the wedding planning process. Diane had a deep love for Portugal after having visited Lisbon while in college, and after coming across another Portugal elopement while searching on Pinterest, Diane and Jason knew that Monserrate Palace was the perfect place to say “I do”. Photographer Jesus Caballero was with the couple every step of the way, even going in after a champagne cork that flew into the nearby pond when Diane and Jason sat down for their picnic for two.

Our wedding all started with my love for Portugal. I had visited Lisbon in college and it held a special place in my heart. After a few months of visiting venues here in Chicago and starting our plan, we both quickly realized we wanted something different. I relied a lot on Pinterest and Google when I stumbled upon an elopement Jesus photographed in Lisbon.

Before heading to Portugal Jason and I created personalized map notebooks that we both wrote our vows in. We wanted to make sure the vows spoke to who we are as a couple and captured everything we want to accomplish in our adventure together as husband and wife.

I think when it really all became real was when we sat down for our picnic for two. Jason popped the champagne, we toasted and took in the beauty of everything that was around us. The setting was perfect, and so much more than I had wished for. The tall trees, the palace behind us and the sunshine. I wont ever forget it.

We did not give favors since it was just the two of us. However we had wedding gifts for each other. I had ordered vintage cufflinks with an image of the world for Jason and a watch to match his attire. Jason got me a pair of flats that I had been wanting forever that he paired with a note that read “in case your feet are to get cold”.

Blush and Metallic Chicago Wedding at Stan Mansion

April 20, 2016 | editorial team

Blush-Metallic-Chicago-Wedding-Stan-Mansion-26

Having just recently moved from Chicago to Las Vegas, Cassie and Daniel decided to say “I do” at Stan Mansion in Chicago, the city that is near and dear to them as well as their families. Built in the 1920s, Stan Mansion’s exterior is old greystone, but the ballroom is perfect for just about any celebration. Cassie and Daniel liked that it had just the right amount of old world charm and romance that they were looking for. Catherine Rhodes Photography was on-scene capturing all the sweet moments from Cassie and Daniel’s big day, and we absolutely love the blush and metallic decorations at the reception!

The Couple:

Cassie and Daniel

The Wedding:

Stan Mansion, Chicago, Illinois

Blush-Metallic-Chicago-Wedding-Stan-Mansion-2

My mom and I made appointments with various bridal boutiques around Chicago, our first stop being BHLDN. I didn’t dream about my wedding dress as a child and really had no idea what I’d look like in a wedding gown. However, it’s true what they say…you just know when it’s the one. It was ethereal and very feminine. I loved that the tulle was so soft and flowing.

We had recently moved to Las Vegas from Chicago and with all of our family being from the Chicago area, it made sense to get married in a city so dear to us. Getting married out of state is NOT easy. Hauling 8 suitcases of decor from Las Vegas to Chicago, plus a dress, a tux, and gifts… it was quite the spectacle!

I wrote vows to Daniel, but was nervous I wouldn’t be able to read them without sobbing. So, I had them hand written by a calligrapher on a backdrop that cascaded down from the ceiling to our feet. To marry my best friend under those words that meant so much, was very emotional.

Blush-Metallic-Chicago-Wedding-Stan-Mansion-14

The most memorable moment was when the doors opened and I saw my future husband, our friends and family, and the gorgeous ceremony room for the first time Everything about it…the lighting, the candles, the flowers, my vows to my husband-to-be as our backdrop, this dapper looking fella’ who was about to call me his wife. I’ll never forget it. Ever.

We are avid travelers, so our escort cards were made out of parcel tags, covered in passport stamps. We also had our favorite books, modern and classic, as our centerpieces. We had signature cocktails, his & hers, with our favorite spirits.
