Whimsical White Ojai Valley Wedding

April 30, 2016 | editorial team

Christina and Brian’s Ojai Valley wedding was a weekend full of love, laughter, and time together. Having gone through some losses in their family recently, Christina and Brian kept family at the heart of their wedding planning. They wanted there to be enough time to spend time visiting with each invited guest, so they rented out Black Walnut Ranch for four days. They agreed that the ranch set forth a very calm and homey environment, and Hanna Photography stayed the weekend and captured every moment of Christina and Brian’s rustic, natural, and whimsical wedding.

I bought the dress very early on in our engagement. I’m the type of person that hates fussing and hates trying on dresses. So when I found that dress, I was done. Fast forward two years later to our wedding, I am so glad I found that dress! I adored the beadwork and sequins, and the fact that it was so light (not heavy at all), that I was able to wear it all night.

The most memorable part of the day was waking up to a gorgeous setting! The day before our wedding, it was super windy and pouring! We all took our time driving up to the ranch, and waited for it to stop raining, to set out tables and décor. I was so worried that it would still be raining and that the grounds would be all muddy and wet the day of. However, when we woke up it was simply breathtaking!

Family was the most important thing when we were planning our wedding, and our budget. We had gone through some losses in our family recently, and decided that we really wanted to promote an environment where we can actually spend time with people.

Everything was personalized. We had so much help from family and friends, that all of our decorations were DIY. From the burlap and beans that my grandmother bought, to the mini moon cacti that my grandfather loves, the pale blue/gray mobile my cousin made, the gold and tulle garlands my sister-in-law made…..everything was handmade.

DIY Fairy Tale Backyard Wedding in Bellingham, Washington

April 29, 2016 | editorial team

Courtney and Matt decided to have a backyard wedding in Bellingham, and it was nothing short of a fairytale. They never thought they were going to find a venue that would represent who they were more than their own backyard. Matt’s parents’ home is surrounded by five acres of lush forests and beloved views of the Puget Sound and San Juan Islands. Through loads and loads of DIY, what Courtney and Matt called a labor of love, the couple and their friends and family transformed the home into the rustic venue of their dreams. Twyla Jones Photography captured every sweet moment from this laid back woodland wedding, and the entire day was glamorous and magical and truly a fairytale come to life.

There aren’t really any other opportunities in your life when you get to have everyone you love in one place – that was not lost on us and creating a magical space for soaking up every ounce of that was our ultimate goal.

My bridesmaids all have incredible taste and are maybe more fashionable than me, so I really just sort of gave some general guidance and let them take the wheel on what they wanted to wear. They all have special individual looks and I really wanted them to be able to be that and show that at our wedding! We eventually settled on some really lightweight chiffon Etsy skirts that came in a bunch of colors and they took it from there.

I wanted to be comfortable and have a look that was glamorous but also free flowing and a little bit boho. My favorite piece of my look was my gorgeous cathedral length blush veil which had a 4 foot blusher. I wore it for about two seconds and one of my few regrets is not wearing it more!

Every wedding is hard work and by definition, a “labor of love” – but our wedding was truly a community effort of love that took that to another level and made it something really special. My now husband Matt and I knew that we wanted to get married on his parents beautiful property on the scenic Chuckanut Drive, south of Bellingham, WA where we would be surrounded by lush forests and views of the Puget sound that we love so much.

We love dogs, and our placeholders were little golden dogs with people’s names on them.

DIY-Fairy-Tale-Backyard-Wedding-Bellingham-Washington-41

For us, because of the venue, that meant creating sort of a laid back, rustic yet still glamorous, woodland fairytale type of vibe. That involved really soft colors, a lush environment that only the Pacific Northwest could provide, awesome laid back people, and lots and lots of lights. I’m a firm believer that lighting makes a party.

Luxe Jewel Tone Wedding at the Fairmount Park Horticulture Center

April 29, 2016 | editorial team

Bridget and Andrew’s Save the Date had a picture of a giraffe on it, only because they both found it incredibly amusing. Little did they know that their entire wedding theme would explode from there. Amanda Jaffe of Love Me Do Photography captured all the very best details of the giraffe themed celebration, including a Ginger Giraffe custom cocktail, brass giraffes as table decor, and best of all a 5-foot-tall stuffed giraffe as a photo booth prop. Bridget and Andrew wanted the entire day to be inclusive and comfortable for their diverse group of friends and family, and the Fairmount Park Horticulture Center was the perfect amount of both cozy and comfortable.

Our original venue (an old factory) actually went out of business shortly after we booked it. We wound up having to scramble to find a replacement but honestly we couldn’t imagine having been married anywhere else. The Horticulture Center was a cozy oasis on the crisp November evening.

It wasn’t any one specific moment but what we still think back on today was the pervasive joy and amazing energy that emanated from all around us throughout the day. The feeling of being surrounded by the people that you love most in the world (who all happen to be in a celebratory mood) isn’t something we’ll ever forget!

We really wanted to have a celebration that was inclusive and comfortable for our diverse group of friends and family. It was the first time we were bringing many of these people together and didn’t want folks feeling left out. We worked hard to add elements that would speak to different preferences (vegetarian, oldies vs pop, dancers vs talkers etc.) so that everyone could be part of the party!
