Positively Charming Small Town Texas Wedding at Henkel Hall

July 19, 2016 | Junebug Weddings

When Neva and Carl started planning their wedding, they decided to treat their guests to some good old Southern hospitality at Round Top, Texas’s Henkel Hall.  With Round Top’s population topping off at 90, tripling the town’s population on the day of the wedding wasn’t a tough feat to accomplish! After DIYing this charming wedding’s calligraphy signs, florals, and stationary, Neva fell in love with crafting on a large scale and even started her own event and calligraphy business. Photographer Allison Harp captured Neva and Carl’s beautifully in every frame.

The Wedding:

Henkel Hall, Round Top, Texas

With neither of us being from Round Top, Carl‘s actually from Indiana, a lot of people were curious as to why we chose Henkel Hall in Round Top, Texas. This question was easy for me. Round Top is a town of 90 people, we actually tripled the population for our wedding. Round Top is everything you would think of Texas. One stoplight, everyone waving as you drive by, true Southern hospitality. It gives off the feel like Cheers where everybody knows your name.

The most memorable part of the day for us has to be just the joy that everyone had and being able to share that day with the people who made us who we are. It is truly a gift to have all the people you love be so joyful for your union.

I like to tell people that Round Top is magical, but that’s because it is. Time seems to stop in that small, quaint town. Everyone truly cared that we had the best possible environment for our wedding.

My mom made all of the flower crowns for the flower girls and the flower collar for our dog, Javier. There were so many little details that were hard work at the time, but seeing them all come together on that day made them that much more special. It also encouraged me to start my own event planning and calligraphy business in the midst of it all, so it was the gift that keeps giving.

Almost everything you saw in the wedding was DIY. Weddings can be extremely overwhelming and costly, and being the perfectionist that I am, I wanted to make sure that my dreams and visions were becoming a reality without spending a fortune. Carl and I made all of our own Save the Dates and Invitations. I did all of the calligraphy on the signs that you see throughout the wedding.

Our advice: Don’t take it too seriously. Take time to dance to your record player in the middle of the living room and eat that slice of pizza that you want so badly. At the end of the day you get to marry your best friend, and that is the most important part. Everything else will fall into place.

There was definitely a tangible sense of love, laughter, and joy throughout the entire day. Carl and I walked away from the wedding with such peace and happiness about how it all turned out. It truly was better than we had planned or could have imagined.

Bright and Airy Boston Boudoir Photos

July 18, 2016 | Junebug Weddings

bright-and-airy-boston-boudoir-photos-9

We love when we come across a unique boudoir session, and this session’s message is especially compelling: you don’t have to bare it all to achieve incredibly sexy, personal images! Nicole Baas Photography set out to shoot a Boston boudoir session that showcases the bright, airy, and romantic side of New England. Captured mostly on film, we think Nicole’s vision shines through wonderfully with strong poses and beautiful lingerie. These uniquely powerful boudoir images are a must-see for anyone exploring the idea of a boudoir session for themselves!

bright-and-airy-boston-boudoir-photos-1

From the photographer: I had never done a shoot of this nature, for one reason or another, and I wanted the first one that I shot to be a clean, crisp and well-executed vision. I didn’t want the usual sexually suggestive poses or the come hither stares. I didn’t want any underlying darkness or secrets. I wanted to capture the moments in which a woman feels confident in her own skin, self-loving and powerful.

bright-and-airy-boston-boudoir-photos-3

From the photographer: I think the usual perception of Boston and New England in general is a feeling of darkness from old, wood-paneled libraries and worn out estates. And I felt so strongly that this shoot should be a departure from that perception. I wanted this to show that there is a side of New England that is bright and airy and modern. I wanted to capture light and beauty and spring. I wanted this to be captured mostly on film for its diaphanous qualities and to allow the film to lend its ethereal feel to the nature of this shoot.

From the photographer: I really feel that this shoot captured everything that I had envisioned and I really think that Emily embodied the self-love and strength that I so deeply wanted to portray with this work.

From the photographer: We were given this incredible gift in the body of a woman and we’re living in a time where women are rising, shattering glass ceilings and tackling great things. We should embrace that. Embrace our power and our strength and our beauty because I promise that it’s in there – sometimes you just have to draw it out.

Gold sequined bridesmaid dresses, a burgundy suit on the groom, and the bride’s gorgeous A-line tulle gown are just a few of the seriously killer style choices at Irene and Chris’s Raleigh wedding! Blest Studios captured every sweet moment of Irene and Chris’s wedding, including the incredible feat of capturing couple portraits in the venue’s parking lot between rain downpours. This super heartfelt and quirky wedding at Bridge Club was full of fun surprises, amazing food, and tons of dancing!

The Couple:

Irene and Chris

The Wedding:

Bridge Club, Raleigh, North Carolina

Our first look was definitely the most memorable moment. We were most excited to see each other first and spend time alone together before the circus of the day.

I just wanted to look and feel beautiful. I loved the color of my dress, I wanted Chris to love it, too. My makeup inspiration was to look as natural as possible. I didn’t care about anything else.

this-raleigh-wedding-at-the-bridge-club-wows-with-killer-bride-and-groom-style-12

We love color and were really going for a modern vibe – so we went there. Our colors were blush, burgundy, rose gold, and grey. Chris and I LOVE color. We knew that we didn’t want to stick to traditional wedding tones. Once we started looking into things – we just let our imagination run and tried to have fun with it.

The rest of our party wore dresses from Rent the Runway and suits from The Black Tux – both rented their items, we wanted our parties to shine and look and feel good as well, we didn’t want them to break the bank to do so.

We LOVE Brett, our photographer. She was amazing. She is funny and easy to talk to. She wore so many hats for us that day. It was rainy. I was stressed. She calmed us and felt like family. Her pictures are amazing and she was just the best!

this-raleigh-wedding-at-the-bridge-club-wows-with-killer-bride-and-groom-style-18

We had a close friend play an electric guitar over Phil Collins for the processional. Chris is a HUGE Phil Collins fan and our friends and family know that. This was a a surprise for them and it made Chris excited. It was weird and quirky. It was funny and set the tone for the night to come.

The photo taken in the parking lot directly after the wedding ceremony is an amazing shot – it basically poured during the entire thing and we had a break in weather and our photographer captured it perfectly.

We chose Bridge Club specifically for the food. We love to eat and wanted the food to be the star of the evening. We didn’t trust any other venue would be able to deliver the way Bridge Club did, we definitely made the right decision.

First Dance: Beyoncé – 1+1

We also included a fat head of our dog, Lilly. It was a way to include her in our day, she’s a dog and obviously couldn’t be at the venue. But we love her and having our friends take pics with her throughout the night made it special for us.
