If You Love Bright Colors, This Heide Museum of Modern Art Wedding is For You

Anna + Dan wedding, 2015

Purple and coral and yellow, oh my! Anna and Dan’s Australian wedding is full of all of our favorite vibrant colors and tons of style. After a particularly beautiful ceremony at Heide Museum of Modern Art surrounded by colorful paper fans, the couple’s reception at Two Ton Max featured amazing DIY paper mobile chandeliers, modern tropical vibes, and quirky décor. Madeline Druce Photography captured Anna and Dan’s day perfectly, including Anna’s killer vintage bridal style!

The Couple:

Anna and Dan

The Wedding:

Heide Museum of Modern Art & Two Ton Max, X, Australia

Anna + Dan wedding, 2015

The most important element of the day was to make it as genuinely ‘us’ as possible. And this had to do with the people we surrounded ourselves with. We wanted to make sure that they had a fantastic time and in turn, that’s what make it so great for us. Our main theme of the day was ‘fun.’

Anna + Dan wedding, 2015

We wanted something that was ‘us’. And around our home, we have plenty of pops of colour, and we wanted to create this at the reception as well. Our key motif for the day was ‘So I Think We Should Taco Truck’ – which was basically the first line I used to ask Dan out.

Anna + Dan wedding, 2015

My favourite photo was just before the ‘first look’, Dan is about to turn around to see me, and Ernest ‘Ernie’ Hemingway- our dog- is trying to get his attention. Ernie’s on his back legs while Dan‘s trying to calm him down. It ended up being a hilariously timed photo with me laughing in the background.

We wanted a wedding venue that worked as a blank slate for us, where we could make the space into something amazing and other-worldly. The other consideration was to choose a venue where it would be easy for people to get home from. There was a train station nearby, as well as being close enough for guests to catch taxis.

Anna + Dan wedding, 2015

We had our ceremony at Heide Sculpture Garden, and had a gorgeous arbour which was covered in brightly coloured fans. This really made it ‘pop’ against the backdrop of a classic Australian landscape behind us.

We got some dresses made up for the bridesmaids which were a very simple summer dress design. We chose the fabric collectively (going for a Sarah Watts design). The guys all wore a Jack London suit, opting for a more slim-fitting mod look.

Anna + Dan wedding, 2015

I wanted to go for a more vintage style- but something that was cute and quirky. Not many people look for a ‘cute’ wedding dress, (as it’s all about being ‘womanly’) but this was exactly what I was after. I found my wedding dress online at Dear Golden. It was the huge bow on the front that really got me! My dress was a vintage dress from the 1950s which was in fantastic condition.

Our photographer, Maddie, was nothing short of amazing. So much so, that two lots of our friends are also using her as their wedding photographer as well! She was unbelievably patient (especially when it came to doing the family photos), and was so gracious and lovely during the whole day.

Honestly, the best thing we did was to get a wedding planner and stylist on board. I understand that this isn’t something that everyone has the luxury of being able to incorporate into their wedding, but this made the whole process totally stress-free and relaxing.

Anna + Dan wedding, 2015

Our wedding colours were made up of bright pinks, purples and green. Chairs were alternating mint, pink and yellow. All up, we used many bright colours!

Anna + Dan wedding, 2015

We DIY’ed the colourful mobiles for the reception. We picked up hula hoops, and many different colours of paper. With some string, we attached triangles of coloured paper to the hula hoop to create a hanging mobile effect. If you’re planning on making something like this, make sure you leave plenty of time to do it- start 3 months prior to the wedding date if possible!

Lauren and Tyler’s weekend wedding retreat at The Wellspring Spa combined cozy outdoor vibes with total elegance! After a rainy outdoor ceremony surrounded by the Washington forest, Lauren and Tyler’s reception combined boho style and an whimsical campground atmosphere with a teepee, food truck, and tons of dancing. The photography team of Hinterland Stills captured every moment of Lauren and Tyler’s wedding perfectly, including an incredibly beautiful first look and Lauren’s two gorgeous bridal styles!

The Wedding:

The Wellspring Spa, Ashford, Washington

It was important to us to have time with our guests, which is why we opted for a weekend affair. Each side of our family had cabins nestled around the grounds that were carefully chosen for them. It was so nice to have that time, the day of just flies by…

Our first look was the most memorable moment. We stood back to back and read each others hand written notes (different from our vows). It was so emotional yet so comforting to be together in that moment, before standing in front of all of our family and friends.

My favorite photo is a close up us, from the side, that was taken during our first look in the labyrinth. The split second emotion that they were able to capture on our faces just speaks 1000 words. When I saw the photo it brought me back to that moment where I felt complete serenity seeing Tyler for the first time that day and being able to hug him. I have a overwhelming look of contentment, and Tyler is smiling, giddy while pressing his forehead to mine. It’s something I will cherish forever.

My gown was by Grace Loves Lace. I was so comfortable yet felt perfectly put together. I went with dramatic braid and minimal accessories. A soft, smoky eye, a neutral lip and nude strappy sandals. The girls wore different styles, but all from the same champagne hued collection with floral crowns. The guys wore bright royal blue tuxedos from Zara.

My photographers nailed it. The guys of Hinterland Stills were so down to earth and easy to work with. They made the time leading up to the day painless and were a huge help with keeping things moving along the day of. Most importantly, their work is outstanding. We knew that when all was said and done that we would have the photos to take us back to that day, and thanks to these two were able to have these amazing shots.

Our florist, Gina, is incredible. The flowers were breathtaking and probably one of my favorite parts of all things visual that day. Lastly, Taylor, my bridesmaid and hairstylist…she gave me the fabulous braid filled with babies breath. The highlight of my entire look.

An Intimate Amalfi Coast Wedding That Doesn’t Skimp on Style

September 24, 2016 | Junebug Weddings

A champagne beaded Needle & Thread gown, an intimate family style dinner, and a gorgeous Italian villa overlooking the ocean – everything about this Amalfi Coast wedding is perfectly chic! Felicity and Josh’s destination wedding at Villa San Giacomo embodied the naturally romantic essence that Italy is known for with an emotional ceremony and a heartfelt reception. We absolutely love how Kelly Rae Stewart Photography captured every detail of Felicity and Josh’s wedding, including beautiful wedding signage and organic reception décor!

We did so much DIY! When I say DIY… I mean the amazing Mother of the Groom did a lot of DIY haha! She is so artistic and she hand wrote and painted all of our menus, favour tags, name tags AND signs! She was a lifesaver!

Mark and Kelly Stewart from Kelly Rae Stewart photography were absolutely amazing. Honestly, we didn’t even notice them there, they were like photography ninjas! We were so happy with our photos, they truly captured everything in such a natural, candid way. They were super easy going and it felt like we were just hanging out with old friends!

We wanted to keep our guest list as small as possible so that it felt really intimate for both our guests and us! We wanted to create the feeling of a casual ‘family’ style dinner so we wanted one big long table.

an-intimate-amalfi-coast-wedding-that-doesnt-skimp-on-style-41

an-intimate-amalfi-coast-wedding-that-doesnt-skimp-on-style-47

an-intimate-amalfi-coast-wedding-that-doesnt-skimp-on-style-44

We also made ‘welcome gifts’ for all of our guests and left them in their villas and hotel rooms. We left a variety of different goodies in the packs including hand written personalised letters, piccolo’s of prosecco, cookies, a map of Positano, Italian chocolate etc… It was important to us that we made each guest feel special as everyone had made such an effort to come to our destination wedding.

an-intimate-amalfi-coast-wedding-that-doesnt-skimp-on-style-42

We are both such foodies and we really wanted food to be one of the main focuses of our day… we chose to do share plates of antipasto and pasta in order to create a ‘family’ dinner casual vibe. It worked so perfectly with our intimate long table and really created a sense of community among our guests.

an-intimate-amalfi-coast-wedding-that-doesnt-skimp-on-style-45

an-intimate-amalfi-coast-wedding-that-doesnt-skimp-on-style-48

Our advice: Create a running sheet for the day and allow for all of the things to run over time. It helps to gauge an idea of how you would like your day to run. Also, relax!! And don’t focus on the minor details… no one will take any notice of them!!

We also created our own reception and dance music playlists using Spotify instead of having a band or a DJ. This worked brilliantly! We chose to play acoustic covers during the dinner and then created a really fun and upbeat playlist for the dance floor.
