Rustic Glam Colombian Destination Wedding

March 28, 2017 | Junebug Weddings

This Colombian destination wedding featured rustic vibes with hints of glam! Amanda and Andy immediately fell in love with Colombia on their first visit to Cartagena, so when it was time to select a wedding destination, they knew exactly where to go. The couple chose to decorate their venues with greenery and light tones of peach and white to reflect their love of nature, yet weren’t afraid to glam it up with luxe tablescapes and a totally killer custom Inbal Dror bridal gown. Photographer Donna Irene Muccio captured every stunning moment of Amanda and Andy’s wedding, including their dramatic reception fireworks!

The Couple:

Amanda and Andy

The Wedding:

Sanyo Torribio Church & Santa Clara, Cartagena, Colombia

The most important to us was definitely that we remained aware of what actually getting married means. We noticed that it’s very easy to get carried away in the planning that you forget the real importance, which isn’t the party, but joining together as one! Keeping mind of this really helped us relax and have fun during the entire planning process.

We knew we wanted a 3 day type celebration wedding, so we knew it had to be a destination. My dad was the one who recommended Cartagena, Colombia and we fell in love on first visit! We’re very ‘rustic’ people. We love nature and just the art of being ‘real’ without the extra fluff, so we went a very natural approach! Lots of greenery, and the venue itself smelled amazing from all of the eucalyptus.

I wanted a dramatic train! I think I achieved that goal. My dress is custom by designer Inbal Dror. It took a whole year to make!

Andy got me beautiful earrings and a note before walking down the aisle!

Our favorite photo is the one of us walking down the road right after we got married. It was such a celebration, and we were laughing and dancing in all of the photos… so beautiful!

Our first dance song was You & I by Michael Bublé.

This Iceland Elopement is As Heartfelt As It is Thrilling

March 27, 2017 | Junebug Weddings

Iceland’s largely known for its gorgeous icy fjords and dramatic cliffs, but it’s also known for its singular ability to take any moment and turn it into something special. Alena and Jacob always felt drawn to Iceland’s calming mood and cuddle-worthy weather, so they didn’t hesitate to travel to the foreign country for their engagement. Alena’s stunning winter bridal look included a white cable knit sweater, a structured skirt (with pockets!), and a bright orange and yellow bouquet, while Jacob’s groom look mirrored Alena’s bouquet with a playful floral tie in the same colors. We are simply blown away by Cody & Allison Photography‘s documentation of this Iceland elopement, including the unexpected moments where the couple was nearly swept away by the wind and sea!

The Couple:

Alena and Jacob

The Wedding:

Jökulsárlón, Iceland

The things that were most important to us while wedding planning were a tie between the location and the pictures. We wanted to be in an incredible place but we also wanted to be with an incredible photographer.

Iceland looked like it had some incredible landscapes, it was rated the #1 most peaceful country, and it has 3 times more sheep than humans in the country. All of those things ended up being 100% true and made us fall in love with the gorgeous island-country.

We’ve always wanted a winter themed vibe and the climate of Iceland ended up being perfect for what we were wanting. The colors in winter, the calming mood, and the fact that being cold would make us want to hold each other tight while promising our vows to one another… We felt the setting would really tie in with us as a couple.

We wrote our own vows the night before and we held each other while saying them to each other.

We actually didn’t really have anything planned until about a week and a half before we left as far as colors go. We knew what the color of the dress would be but Jacob kept going back and forth on what he was going to wear and then found this magnificent tie to go with it. Then we sent those colors to the florist we were talking with in Iceland and boom. Pretzel bread. That’s how the colors were chosen – on a whim of random inspiration one week day night.

My inspiration was winter-y. So, long sleeved, warm, cozy, and also very elegant. What I love about it is that it’s just a sweater and a skirt with pockets. But put together, it created the exact look I was wanting.

For Jacob, the most memorable part was the glacier lagoon in Jökulsárlón. Seeing the majesty of the landscape, breathing in the crisp air, and joyously saying our vows to one another.

Jacob‘s fashion inspiration was about the same as mine; just having a winter-y feel but also staying stylish. We knew that dark blue with the pop of color tie would be perfect for him.

Honestly, don’t take it too seriously. Be prepared to have an open mind on the day of because like Murphy’s Law says, “What can go wrong, will go wrong.” For example, the first place our photographers wanted to take us to in the valley of a mountain ended up not working out at all at the time of us arriving. Instead of getting bummed, we went with the flow and ended up finding an even better “first look” and vow reading location.

Working with Cody & Allison aka the GREATEST PHOTOGRAPHERS was a dream. They are the friendliest, most down to earth people ever. We had an immediate connection with them when we first met them face to face at the car rental depot at Keflavik International. They inspired us so much the day of and kept us energized to go from location to location. They worked so hard to get the best pictures of an Icelandic elopement ever. (We’re just a LITTLE biased buuuuuut I mean have you seen their pictures??)

Soooo in a few of the pictures, you’ll see our legs covered completely by the ocean tide on Black Sand Beach. That was not planned. We were just running out to where we thought the edge was and getting our picture taken but then the tide came up a lot further than we had expected. Our legs and shoes and socks got soaked. It was so funny and shocking!

For me, the most memorable part was on the cliff in Vik. It was so surreal being up there and it felt like we were the only people in the world. We popped the bottle of champagne over the edge and tossed the flowers over as well. It was like a dream.

Moroccan-Inspired Boho Chic Wedding in Southern Italy

March 27, 2017 | Junebug Weddings

Inspired by Morocco’s boho chic vibes and the Mediterranean’s effortless beauty, this couple’s wedding in Southern Italy featured an array of exotic textures and whitewashed accents! Stacey, a lifestyle blogger, and Jeffrey spent seven months researching which country to host their destination wedding in, and their hard work paid off: the landscape of Southern Italy was perfect for their event’s multicultural details. The couple incorporated personalized tambourines, handmade tassels, and out-of-this-world reception décor to reflect their love of bohemian-inspired details! We are blown away with the gorgeousness of Andrew Abajian‘s film and Cinzia Bruschini‘s photographic documentation of the couple’s day.

The Couple:

Stacey and Jeffrey

The Wedding:

Masseria Potenti, Puglia, Italy

I literally spent 7 months researching far and wide to figure out which country to host our wedding. I had too many visions of what our wedding would be like. At an African Safari in the middle of the Serengeti or on a campsite in the Moroccan desert. We are avid travelers and wanted to experience a trip of a lifetime with our close friends and family. When we go to local weddings, they happen so fast and we rarely ever get to spend quality time with the couple. If we were going to tie the knot, it was a must to celebrate with them in the most exotic locale! We also didn’t really want to spend a gazillion dollars on a city wedding in San Francisco, so a small intimate wedding abroad was perfect!

After a few discussions with my now husband and his requirement for amazing food, we decided on Italy! I got in touch with amazing coordinators, Eva and Francesca. They suggested I come to visit some venues in person, so I took a week off from work and off I went with my sister on an Italian road trip from Tuscany to the very Southern tip of Italy! After 8 visits to chateaus and vineyards, we we’re tired, cranky and over it. Everything started to look the same. We finally went to our last venue visit, which was incredibly far and the furthest one out from the airport. My sister and I literally got stuck driving through unpaved roads in the middle of dry farmlands in the rain! Once we drove up to the pristine, white building of Masseria Potenti, our jaws dropped and as soon as we walked in through the gates, I almost teared up by how beautiful the venue was. It felt like the gates of heaven.

While touring around Puglia, I fell in love with Southern Italy’s gypsy vibe. The tambourines, the music, the food!! It was all too amazing for words. This was another side of Italy that not too many people know about. I decided to mix in Mediterranean, Moroccan Boho Chic with Southern Italy. It felt fun and carefree!

I had a difficult time finding a wedding dress. I went to many shops all over California. I just couldn’t find anything that was me or different from the classic wedding gown. I found one that I really liked at a local bridal shop, but I never really felt like it was “The One.” Then one day, I was on Pinterest pinning away on wedding decor, and I came across a very gypsy like wedding gown from Australia. It stopped me dead in my tracks and I just had to have it! I called them right away and the price fit my budget, so they shipped it within a month! I tried it on and was IN LOVE! I couldn’t take it off, I just loved it so much. I wanted to have even more statement items and chose giant white fringe earrings from Ranjana Khan, and gold cuff bracelets. I felt like a modern gyspy bride. It was perfect for me because I always wear crop tops in the summer due to my petite frame.

Bridal Party: Here Comes the Sun – The Beatles
Bride: Sleeping at Last – Turning Pages
Exit: Just Like Heaven – The Cure
First Dance: Time of My Life – Dirty Dancing

I also wanted my bridesmaids to stand out like a fashion runway. They wore whites, creams and golds all with different styles of dresses, textures and fringe. I also had to have a mod pantsuit in the mix!

Our favors were the coolest part of our wedding! We had personalized tambourines hung from the ceiling with colorful ribbons. It was very Puglian and guests used them for dancing. It was the best!

Our advice: Two things! Breathe and step away from that Pinterest board! Second, during your wedding day, take at least 5 minutes to relax and absorb what’s going on around you. You’ll be surprised by the surrealness of it all.

I felt a sense of relaxation and relief when I was sitting down to relax with my new husband while everyone was dining. The feeling felt so surreal to see all the colorful decor and design come to life. After months of planning and stress, it all came together perfectly. Even when watching our friends and family dine together for a meal and enjoying the beautiful warm Puglian night. I remember telling my husband, “I can’t believe we’re really here.” It really felt like a dream come true.”
