Foggy Intimate Iceland Wedding at Hotel Búðir

April 4, 2017 | Junebug Weddings

When Seth and Anders were planning their wedding, they knew a few things for certain: they wanted their closest family and friends there, the planning process should be as simplified as possible, and the ceremony needed to be held in the gorgeous remote chapel at Hotel Búðir. Seth and Anders are originally from the US and Sweden respectively, so Iceland served as a perfect in-between point for all of their loved ones. Jordan Quinn Photography documented every moment of the couple’s emotional ceremony, and captured truly spectacular portraits of the two among Iceland’s coastal cliffs.

The Couple:

Seth and Anders

The Wedding:

Hotel Búðir, Snaefellsnes Peninsula, Iceland

One thing we both discussed from the beginning of wedding planning was the non-negotiable importance of getting to hang out with our family and friends. Our guests are the most important people in each of our lives and we wanted to make sure that our time with them was not just a ‘hello’ and a hug. We wanted our days in Iceland to have as many shared meals, beers, and laughs as possible.

With Anders being from Sweden and Seth being from the U.S. we wanted to, quite literally, meet in the middle for our wedding. We stumbled across a picture of Hotel Búðir‘s black church in remote, northwest Iceland and knew that everything else would fall short. Iceland and Hotel Búðir perfectly captured our desire for a wedding that was completely memorable and awe-inspiring and at the same time down-to-earth and intimate.

When we arrived at Hotel Búðir a few hours before our ceremony, it was raining and the fog was so thick you could not enjoy (or even see) the mountains and ocean that surrounded us. We kept our cool and knew Icelandic weather is fickle, but still, we had shipped thirty people here to enjoy the scenery.

When we had finished getting ready and stepped outside to make the walk to the ceremony, where the guests were waiting and the music had begun to play, the fog cleared and the clouds began to part. As the doors opened the brilliant evening sun shone directly into the church and managed to light our path down the aisle. It was already a truly surreal experience for both of us, but this little extra gift from nature was just the cherry on top.

As the church at Hotel Búðir is quite small, we decided to have the processional and recessional played on acoustic guitar. Anders‘s brother masterfully adapted instrumental versions of ‘Step’ by Vampire Weekend as the processional and ‘Around the Bend’ by Asteroids Galaxy Tour as the recessional. During the ceremony, our friend Charlee performed ‘Just in Time’ by Elizabeth & the Catapult, a song that was very important to both of us and emblematic of our early relationship.

Our photographer, Jordan Quinn Smith, was our ultimate guide and protector on our wedding day. She was by our sides throughout the day and seamlessly told our very personal story through her lens. Jordan was able to both silently capture the most subtle, emotional moments of our wedding day and to climb out onto rocks being pounded by waves to make us look and feel like badasses. She not only documented our story, but at the end of the day managed to help us write it.

Our advice is simple: plan as if you were planning an elopement, but make it a vacation and invite your favorite people.

Our first dance song was ‘One Day’ by Melody Gardot, a song we often listened to when we lived across the Atlantic from each other.

This California Wedding at Cass House Cayucos is Pure Coastal Elegance

April 3, 2017 | Junebug Weddings

Samantha and Kevin’s wedding on the west coast combined California elegance with totally personal whimsy! The couple had been visiting the sleepy beach town of Cayucos for years, and had always admired the iconic hundred-year-old historic home in the middle of the town. The moment they set foot in the house-turned-venue, they knew it would be the perfect space for their blush and sage wedding day! Samantha and Kevin’s wedding at Cass House Cayucos featured spectacular handmade details like a neon-lit donut wall, a luggage tag escort card display, and stunning hand-lettered signs. These photos by Shelly Anderson Photography capture every moment of the couple’s day beautifully, including their post-ceremony rendezvous on the beach!

The Couple:

Samantha & Kevin

The Wedding:

Cass House Cayucos, Cayucos, California

We wanted to be very untraditional and have fun. Family means the most to us, so we wanted to make sure that everyone closest to us was there and got to enjoy themselves.

From the groom: For me, the most memorable moment was the first instance I saw Sam in her wedding dress. It was at that moment that it hit me: this woman would be my wife. How lucky I was to be able to journey through time with the woman of my dreams.

I went in wanting a white, form-fitting gown. My brother, however, pulled out a ball gown style dress to try it on. I tried it on, and fell in love! I loved that I ended up with a non-traditional blush ball gown that so encapsulated the light-hearted, fun style I wanted our wedding to have. My favorite accessory was my “something blue,” an anklet made by my now 11 year old sister in law, Rylie. The rest of the wedding party wore whatever they wanted in whatever shade of white they wanted. I wanted them to feel comfortable and confident in an outfit that they liked.

Kevin grew up visiting Cayucos, the last true sleepy beach town in California. It was a place that Kevin would take me often as we dated, and it grew to be a special place of ours. Square in the middle of the town was a hundred year old building belonging to the founder of Cayucos, James Cass, that was hidden in plain sight. As it turned from an eye sore to an icon, Kevin and I decided to take a look inside on one of their many trips to Cayucos. We immediately fell in love with the venue, and decided that it would be a perfect addition to our Cayucos story.

During the ceremony, Kevin kept breaking eye contact to glance toward the grass. I couldn’t understand why. And then, as I said ‘I do,’ it occurred to me as to why. He had been holding back tears of joy and was trying to keep his composure.

We had a family friend, Judge Robert Shane Burns, marry us. Judge Burns went above and beyond helping make our day extra special by taking personal anecdotes from each of us and incorporating them into the ceremony.

The photo where we were coming down the aisle, smiling through the confetti, is our favorite. It was such raw emotion captured in such a remarkable way.

Processional: Pachelbel’s Canon in D
Recessional: Mendelssohn’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream
First Dance: The Way You Look Tonight – Frank Sinatra

Our wedding was an outgrowth of our lives and personalities: untraditional. We wanted donuts and ice cream instead of cake, bridesmen instead of only bridesmaids, and family style food instead of a traditional sit down style dinner.
