Gold and Grey Hotel Van Zandt Wedding in Austin, Texas

November 3, 2017 | Junebug Weddings

After a surprise proposal party at the then-newly opened Hotel Van Zandt, Madelyn and Ryan returned to the stylish hotel for their sleek and contemporary wedding inspired by the unique venue. The couple kept it simple with a chic and neutral color palette of golds, greys, and taupes that represented both the bride and groom without overwhelming the refined space for a simple and modern vibe with a hint of edge. Floral design by Bouquets of Austin created the luxe-chic décor, bursting with classic white blooms and lots of greenery. Rob August Photography captured the couple and their most precious moments of the day, like their dreamy first look followed by surprising other guests of the boutique hotel in full wedding attire on the splashy pool deck with views of downtown Austin and at a mezcal bar downtown after the wedding.

The Couple:

Madelyn and Ryan

The Wedding:

Hotel Van Zandt, Austin, Texas

After Ryan proposed, he surprised me that evening with our closest friends for a cocktail party at the Hotel Van Zandt (which had just opened at the time). I felt that the whole venue captured my style, and I knew I could make it my own and incorporate the unique venue design.

The most memorable part of the day was our first look. Our photographer picked a beautiful andprivate space where we could share that special moment just to ourselves.

I wanted something simple, modern, with an edgy flare. I was inspired by the Hotel Van Zant itself because the hotel already has so much beauty!

From the start, we decided there were a few very important things to us. Photo, video, and a really great band. Our goal was to throw the ultimate party, and have everyone on the dance floor- so we knew a band was a top priority, andphotographers/videographers would help us capture it.

We asked Ryan‘s family friend + childhood friend’s Dad to marry us. He grew up down the street from Ryan, and we felt that it would be very special to have someone close to us- marry us. Our officiant incorporated his own verbiage, and we wrote + read our own vows. We loved hearing the deeper feelings that we said to each-other on our wedding day and will cherish those words forever.

Again, Rob August was incredible to work with. I chose Rob from the start because I love how he was able to capture the moments, not just the lined up, posed pictures. His ability to tell a story with photographs is extraordinary. Looking back at the photos, you can feel like you were there- back in the moment.

One of my favorites is of my Mother and I reading the letter I wrote to her. Second- the pictures of Ryan and I dancing outside of the venue under the Mezcal sign (only Rob would find that location and make it stunning). Third, a picture of my bridesmaids and I popping champagne outside of our room!

Whimsical Asheville Wedding at Mount Airy Farm Estate

November 2, 2017 | Junebug Weddings

Rachael and Lyle’s backyard wedding at Mount Airy Farm Estate was perfectly whimsical and romantic in every way. We love how they let the breathtaking views of the mountains and trees stand out and influence their choice for minimal decor. With a color palette to complement the outdoors, their reception under the stars is as dreamy as ever. Towards the end of the night, the celebration turned into one giant dance party, and Autumn Harrison Photography captured all the joy and killer dance moves.

The Couple:

Rachael and Lyle

The Wedding:

Mount Airy Farm Estate, Asheville, North Carolina

My style inspiration was a whimsical/boho/mountain look. My mid-back length hair was curled and pinned back on the right side. My dress was long sleeved lace on top, with a deep V in the front, and a beautiful white crepe on the bottom with a long train. My shoes, from BHLDN, had a vintage glam vibe. They were cream satin wedges with a touch of gold.

We wanted something intimate and not “themed,” so we decide to look into private homes. We found a beautiful 40 acre estate, with a 6,100 sq ft home for us to enjoy with our family for the week. It was just west of Asheville, NC and the exterior space had the perfect layout and views for an unforgettable celebration!

There were so many amazing moments, it’s hard to pin one down. Walking down the aisle was surreal, the wind sweeping my cathedral length veil as we had our first kiss was picturesque, and the dance party…oh the dance party!

Autumn was amazing to work with! She was so accommodating and helped to bring a calm to the fast paced day. We were so happy with her beautiful work.

Most importantly we wanted the perfect setting. We envisioned a whimsical outdoor wedding in the mountains, with breathtaking views. A place that we would dream about and appreciate throughout our life together. The food and music being on point was a MUST as well!

The estate land and views were so breathtaking that we knew we wanted to keep the details simple, to showcase the natural beauty all around us. Our decor consisted mostly of flowers and lanterns and votives with warm candlelight.

This Couple Got Cozy on a Cliff for Their Isle of Skye Elopement

November 1, 2017 | Junebug Weddings

Emily and Chris’ Isle of Skye elopement allowed them to eat their cake and eat it too! Because the couple wanted close family and friends to still be involved in a celebration, Emily and Chris sent off the cutest Roots and Rain Creative stationery announcing their elopement and inviting them to a post-elopement party. Since adventure was at the forefront of their wedding day, they said “I do” in the morning in order to have the rest of the day to explore the utterly majestic Isle of Skye. With them every step of the way from sunrise to sunset, Maggie Grace Photography perfectly captured their love with her moody photography style.

The Couple:

Emily and Chris

The Wedding:

The Quiraing, Isle of the Skye, Scotland

We absolutely loved our stay at The Cowshed in Uig, Isle of Skye. We rented their glamping pods for ourselves and our vendors and we loved how unique and comfortable they were. The hospitality of the staff was excellent! They made us feel incredibly special and taken care of.

I wanted my wedding day look to fit in well with the wild Scotland scenery. I chose a simple lace dress that would be comfortable for hiking and easy to travel with. In fact, most of my style was inspired by comfort! I planned on wearing a cute pair of Tom’s heels but my hiking boots ended up being the most comfortable for the terrain. I also wore a poncho wrap to keep warm and luckily it paired well with my dress. I wore a crown braid to keep my hair in place all day and topped it off with a gorgeous flower crown from a local florist.

Seeing each other for the first time and saying our vows was the most memorable part of the day. We hiked to the ceremony location separately and the first time we saw each other was on the edge of a cliff. It was a beautiful and emotional moment for both of us. The scenery surrounding us was dramatic and romantic and the only sounds were the dozens of sheep nearby on the mountain. Our celebrant’s ceremony was special and something we will never forget.

Keep it simple and focus on the important commitment you are making to your partner. It’s so easy to get caught up in the frills of planning a wedding and lose sight of what’s important. Of course we highly recommend eloping! Even though our family wasn’t there for our ceremony, we were able to have a causal reception with our closest friends and family once we returned.

It was important to us to feel relaxed on our wedding day and to have plenty of time to enjoy the day together. We chose to have our ceremony in the morning so we could have the whole day to celebrate. It was a great decision because we were able to do so much! We traveled all over the Isle of Skye taking in the sights and even doing a few hikes in our wedding clothes. There was no pressure to be anywhere at a certain time and we made fun spontaneous decisions about where to explore. Our wedding day perfectly reflected our personalities and we had more time to focus on each other.

Our photographer, Maggie, did an incredible job capturing every moment of our wedding day. She was with us from sunrise to sunset as we explored the Isle of Skye together. She worked extremely hard and without her we wouldn’t have found the perfect ceremony site. She provided us with breathtaking photos that perfectly capture the moodiness of the Isle of Skye. Her package also included a stunning custom album with the best photos from the elopement. It was so nice to receive a high quality album without having to do the work. We highly recommend Maggie!
