This Traditional Atlanta Wedding Took on a Moody Vibe for Its Ansley Golf Club Reception

June 8, 2018 | Junebug Weddings

Rachel and Will’s wedding at Ansley Golf Club in Atlanta proves, once again, that winter is the ideal season for a glamorous wedding! Rachel combined her ethereal cold-shoulder wedding dress from The Sentimentalist with voluminous waves, natural makeup, and a vibrant free-form bouquet created by Amy Osaba Design for a look that was as sophisticated as it was flawless. We also love that she added an emerald green faux fur coat to complement the bridesmaids’ velvet dresses as the chilly winter air set in and that Will chose classic black tuxedos for him and his guys to continue with the sophisticated vibe. Brandi Sisson Photography was on hand to capture every romantic moment throughout the day, from the swoon-worthy portrait session to the intimate ceremony at Cathedral of Christ the King to the reception at Ansley Golf Club.

The Wedding:

Cathedral of Christ the King and Ansley Golf Club, Atlanta, Georgia

My dress was elegantly simple, and I wanted it that way! I wanted my flowers, hair, and veil to be the things that stood out. I loved my dress because it had individual details that made it so unique, but it was still effortless. My wedding party wore long sleeve, dark green, velvet dresses- which were beautiful! I loved the texture of the velvet in our photos. The way it brought out the colors of the flowers and caught the light in different ways was exactly what I envisioned!

While our wedding was fairly traditional, we wanted it to be unique compared to other traditional weddings. I wanted the vibe/look to be moody, dramatic colors. We wanted the whole night to feel warm, fun, and beautiful. So, we chose deep forest green, dark red and wine, light pinks, and ivory for our color palette. We wanted to do something different and loved the idea of a deep green!

There is a picture of us where Will is checking his watch. It’s one of my favorites because it’s so typical of his personality: always ahead of schedule and always dependable. I am so glad that Brandi caught that quick moment of him making sure we would be on time for the ceremony!

We chose Cathedral of Christ the King because it’s such a beautiful and holy church. We chose Ansley Golf Clubbecause Will grew up going there with his grandparents, so it is a sentimental place!

The menu was super important to us because we love food and because we wanted our guests to have lots of choices and walk away with full bellies! We had shrimp and grits, chicken peanut satay, mini beef wellingtons, fig and mascarpone puffs, tomato bacon jam puffs, chicken buffalo dip, and a few other things I am forgetting at the moment! We had specialty “his & her” cocktails, as well. Will‘s was a dirty Arnold Palmer, made with sweet tea bourbon. Mine was a vanilla bean, fig, and gin cocktail.

Handmade California Greenhouse Wedding at Shelldance Orchid Garden

June 7, 2018 | Junebug Weddings

If you’ve followed us for a while, you know that greenhouse weddings are high on our list of favorites, and this California wedding at Shelldance Orchid Garden is no exception! Christine and Jesse brought all their friends and family to their new home in California over the Thanksgiving holiday for a weekend-long celebration that included a potluck feast, bowling, and, of course, their incredible wedding! Although the greenhouse venue was bursting with plants, Floral Times added textural bouquets and garlands to personalize the space and fit the couple’s wildly romantic yet laid-back vibe. Christine channeled her inner boho goddess with a cold-shoulder BHLDN gown and tassel earrings and sprinkled some of that boho flair into the reception decor with a handmade ribbon backdrop and floral hoops. Every detail was exceptionally and thoughtfully crafted by the couple and their loving guests, and Lilly Red Creative captured it all beautifully!

The Couple:

Christine and Jesse

The Wedding:

Shelldance Orchid Garden, Pacifica, California

We asked everyone to gather on Thanksgiving weekend and wanted everyone to know how much it meant to spend a holiday with us. We chose this weekend because, when we moved to New York several years ago, we started a Friendsgiving tradition. We loved the idea of having everyone close to us in town for a Friendsgiving wedding! On Thanksgiving day (the day before the wedding), we gathered everyone for a game of kickball and then a potluck-style Thanksgiving dinner in our backyard. After the wedding, we rented lanes at a bowling alley. The whole weekend was packed with plans and fun memories!

We had stumbled onto Shelldance Orchid Garden one day on a bike ride and thought how nice the place would be for a wedding before we even knew the greenhouse did weddings. After two years and having passed Shelldance so many times, we knew it was the right place. It had everything we wanted! It was small and intimate and it didn’t need a lot of decorations because it was full of plants. The land the venue was on also allowed us to go with the crazy idea to have everyone hike up a hill for a gorgeous view of the ocean for our ceremony.

Jesse and I call each other “Dear” and, over the years, we have collected little deer trinkets. So, we made sure to sprinkle in deer motifs throughout the decor. We had a few antlers and deer brass candlestick holders, and we even placed deer-shaped Christmas ornaments on the donut pyramid. Our friends helped us make the indigo napkins and hand-letter the place cards. I also made the backdrop for the dance floor and the “Mr. and Mrs.” hoops that we hung behind our seats.

So many guests played some role in making our day happen! Our best friend officiated the ceremony, my dad put on my shoes like a princess, and our friend drove me in our Subaru up the top of the hillside where we got married. My girls were our day-of coordinators and made sure all the ducks were in a row. One of my friends even let me borrow her sneakers to dance at the reception because my feet hurt so bad from my heels! It was truly a day that lived beyond any feeling or expectation we had set.

Our advice is simple: don’t stress so much. Yes, you should make lots of lists and spreadsheets and check them twice. But, at the end of the day, your guests should be there for you, not to see which napkins you chose or what song they’re going to dance to. Also, when your family and friends offer up their help, take them up on it as much as you can!

Romantic Jacksonville Wedding at the Tuscan River Estate in Wine, Sage, and Dusty Rose

June 6, 2018 | Junebug Weddings

Using a classic palette of wine, dusty rose, and sage, Lisa and Cody created the dreamiest waterfront wedding at Tuscan River Estate in Jacksonville, Florida! The venue’s expansive grounds allowed the couple to have their wedding ceremony backed up by the St. John’s River, which has been a sentimental spot throughout their entire relationship and provided the most stunning sunset backdrop for their portraits. Their reception then took place around the estate’s magnificent pool, which added a beautiful level of sophistication to an already elegant affair. The Wilding Collective brought in hundreds of roses to adorn everything from the guests’ tables to the macrame ceremony arch created by The Cat Unraveled to the cake from Calli Marie Bakes. Lisa and Cody’s planners from Florida Wedding Supplies made sure no detail was left untouched and that the entire day looked sophisticated yet effortless. We’re blown away by Stefanie Keeler Photography‘s creative eye in capturing every moment and can’t get enough of the wildly romantic vibe that comes through in every image!
