See How This Backyard Transformed Into a Colorful Fairy Garden Wedding

May 13, 2018 | Junebug Weddings

When a couple’s style goal is a fairy garden wedding — and the bride and bridesmaids look like they were plucked right from a fairy glen — you know it’s going to be a wedding day to remember! Lexi and Jeff DIYed every element of their decor to transform the bride’s parents’ backyard into the dreamiest garden oasis we can imagine. The florists at Bliss Haven Farms brought the color story to life with vibrant red, deep purple, bright orange, rich pink blooms that covered the ceremony and sweetheart table arch, accented the bride’s mermaid braid, and even topped their sweet wedding cake. Lexi’s fairytale look came together beautifully around her open-back gown from JJ’sHouse and her girls’ flowing teal dresses added the perfect amount of color when juxtaposed to the groomsmen’s neutral attire. There was colorful eye-candy in every nook of this garden wedding, and photographer Emily Elyse Wehner could not have captured it more beautifully!

This Scripps Seaside Forum Wedding Brought Glitz and Glam to the Beach

May 12, 2018 | Junebug Weddings

Sparkles and glitter might not be your first thought when you think of beach weddings, but Jasmine and Brandon nailed the look in their San Diego wedding at Scripps Seaside Forum. The bride set the tone with a fabulous and glitzy Hayley Paige gown and flower-adorned mermaid braid, and her girls followed suit with mismatched mint green dresses. Events by Rebecca added touches of metallic with lanterns and candlesticks, and Messthetics floral designers added the most beautiful pops of burgundy in every arrangement, including Jasmine’s bouquet and her long braid. The vibe was glamorous yet laid-back, which is a perfect combination for a summer beach wedding, especially for a couple who wanted the natural beauty of the venue and the party atmosphere to be the focal points. Amy Lynn of By Amy Lynn Photography managed to capture the most heart-warming moments, including the couple’s surprise, choreographed first dance and their private sunset walk on the beach.

The Wedding:

Scripps Seaside Forum, San Diego, California

Criteria for bridesmaids dresses and wedding fashion vibe: Pizazz, dancing friendly, mint-ish. I wanted all of my bridesmaids to wear something that they felt beautiful and comfortable in so they got to choose their own dress based off of a color scheme (mint family) that was floor length. It was amazing seeing it all come together and to see their personality and styles reflected in the dresses that they chose.

Our choreographed first dance began with “A Whole New World” from Aladdin and ended with salsa! We killed it, and people were shocked!

Processional – “Back at One” by Brian Mcknight
Recessional – “Sweet Darling” by Fiji
First Dance – “World on Fire” by Slash, “A Whole New World” from Aladdin, and “No Yo Se Manana” by Luis Enrique

Our menu theme was a trip around the world. Brandon and I are both huge travelers and have visited many different countries and wanted food that represented our love for different foods and cultures. One of our favorite countries was Argentina, so we had Bisteca and Chimichurri. We also wanted food from where we met in San Diego so we had a taste of the sea with scallops and black rice. Finally, we wanted food that would represent Sri Lanka because that’s where we were going for our honeymoon, so we served a vegetarian tahini and curry dish.

This Cozy Camp Walden Wedding Showed Off the Couple’s Creative Side

May 12, 2018 | Junebug Weddings

When wedding photographers Jessie and Zac, professionally known as The Sturgeons, planned their wedding, they followed their creative and relaxed intuition and ended up with a warm and cozy Camp Walden wedding that celebrated nature in all its beauty. Nearly every detail of this lovely event was either handmade by this creative duo or by their equally talented family and friends. The camp venue, which is also where Zac proposed, offered the perfect rustic backdrop for their relaxed design and allowed the handmade macrame accents and flower arrangements, the hand-sewn pillows, the hand-lettered signage, and the homemade desserts to take center stage. Jessie looked flawless in a Willowby by Watters gown, braided bun, vintage-inspired jewelry, and natural makeup, and Zac looked utterly handsome in his Collection by Michael Strahan suit and floral print tie. We imagine it could be nerve-wracking to shoot the wedding of fellow wedding photographers, but Jenna Borst captured every moment with ease and intense attention to nuance.

The Wedding:

Camp Walden, Cheboygan, Michigan

We are huge gift givers, so this was a really fun part of the process. I gifted Zac with a leather messenger bag from a local shop in Grand Rapids. Zac gifted me with a custom box with my name engraved on the side. There are 8 compartments, and I have been able to open two so far: the wedding day and the honeymoon compartments. Each contained a letter and a small gift regarding that moment. For example, the wedding day gift was a handkerchief (something blue) that was his Great Grandmother’s. We’ll have to wait and see what first dog, house, and child contain next!

My parents own a house on a small lake in Northern Michigan and since we’ve started dating we have been going up there for mini vacations to get away from all the busyness of life. It’s our little respite. We’d always take walks through the summer camp next to the property during its offseason and it just became so special to us. Zac ended up proposing at the camp (he set up lights in a cabin and had a banner he designed) so we obviously knew it was where we had to be married.

The entire day was crafted by us or loved ones. It was amazing how many helping hands and creative people we are so lucky to be surrounded by. Everyone poured their talents into our wedding, from Jessie‘s sister who made the bouquets to Jessie‘s mom who made a handmade book for us to keep memories from the wedding in. Jessie‘s dad made the ceremony arch to hang the macrame Jessie made on, Zac‘s grandma sewed pillows and cushions for our benches, and Zac‘s mom baked pies for those with dietary restrictions. Zac hand-lettered all the invitations and name cards and both of us made and printed our own save the dates and invitations, Zac‘s best friend, Spencer, illustrated our portraits and other pieces for our invitations, and a classmate from school screen printed our gifts to our guests. There was a lot of love poured into our wedding, and we are eternally grateful!

Our best advice is to start early to ease your stress and try not to get bogged down by all the details. They’re great, but the most important thing is that you’re marrying the person you love, so don’t lose sight of that. Make sure your wedding day feels like you two and not anyone else. And invest in your photographer! Those images will last so much longer than the alcohol or flowers!
