This Virginia Wedding at The Market at Grelen Shows Why Emerald is the Next Big Trend

July 29, 2018 | Junebug Weddings

Kristiana and Karl’s wedding at The Market at Grelen was all charm and all heart, and we can’t get enough! From the hand-embroidered table numbers to the DIY garland and fabric ceremony arch and even the bridesmaids’ bouquets, every detail of this wedding was made with love and designed to effortlessly fit with the organic vibe of the venue. The emerald green color they chose for the groom’s suit, bridesmaids’ dress, and decor even added a luxurious feel while still maintaining the natural, slightly folksy look. But what really set this wedding apart were the intimate moments that Andrew Edwards Photography captured throughout the day, especially the sweet moment when Kristiana and Karl took turns washing each other’s feet before the ceremony. It’s truly the most special thing when a couple makes every part of their wedding day into a gesture of love for each other, for the party who stands beside them, and for the guests who showed up to support them!

The Couple:

Kristiana and Karl

The Wedding:

The Market at Grelen, Somerset, Virginia

We DIY-ed a few things: While the bridal bouquet was made by a florist, the bridesmaids made DIY bouquets the night before the wedding (so fun)! Kristiana hand-embroidered all of the table numbers and made the seating chart. Our beautiful arch decor and table decor were put together by a friend the day-of, and Karl is a graphic designer and designed the entire paper suite for our wedding!

Our advice: make sure you rely on your tribe — the people who are closest to you make all the difference. Don’t be afraid to go to them for encouragement or a shoulder to cry on. Also, make sure your relationship isn’t all about your wedding all the time. Schedule in time to ask about them and how they are doing. Make time to prepare for your marriage, not just your wedding — your marriage will last longer than your wedding day. We made sure we did pre-marital counseling, had wedding-free-zone dates, and did a ton of reading/podcast-listening (favorite podcast: the Anatomy of Marriage). It was all so worth it!

The dancing was definitely the most memorable part of the day! Our first dance still gives us goosebumps, Kristiana‘s father/daughter dance was to a song that her dad would sing nearly every morning to get everyone out of bed, and Karl‘s mother/son dance was so emotional and beautiful. We absolutely loved partying with all of our best friends! The bridesmaids had all learned a line dance to September by Earth Wind & Fire during Kristiana‘s bachelorette weekend, and teaching it to the whole bridal party during the reception was so, so special. We still can’t listen to September without thinking of our wedding day (and maybe busting out a fun dance move or two)!

This Newland Barn Wedding in Huntington Beach was Bohemian in Blue

July 28, 2018 | Junebug Weddings

So much for “something blue”: Liley and Michael painted their Newland Barn wedding in shades of blue from top to bottom! Everything from the groom’s attire to the bride’s hydrangea bouquet and bride’s suede boots were a beautiful shade of navy blue that added a breath of fresh air to their bohemian vibe. After their outdoor ceremony in front of a gorgeous gazebo, the couple had an al fresco reception under the stars that featured handmade lawn games, tacos, and Pinkberry frozen yogurt. As if that wasn’t enough California goodness, Liley even surprised her husband and all the guests with a late-night In-N-Out truck! In addition to the outdoor party, they set up the coziest lounge area inside the venue’s barn using couches, pillows, tables, and a steamer trunk from their home and the bride’s sister’s home. Every DIY project and thrift store find added to the charm of this bohemian California wedding, and Sarah Seashell Weddings could not have captured it all more perfectly!

The Wedding:

Newland Barn, Huntington Beach, California

We loved our ceremony, one of our dearest friends married us and so that was special having him up there marrying us. Our personal vows that we exchanged were my very favorite part, we have been waiting to make those declarations to each other for a long time and so to be able to do so on our eighth anniversary of being with each other was everything.

Make sure you incorporate special moments and details that are unique to both of you as a couple. Our guests commented mosts on these aspects of our wedding (barn lounge, decorations, florals, lawn games, vows, etc). It is very easy to get caught up in Pinterest and all the DIY projects so make sure you are actually saving money by doing it yourself. Make it fun, think about your guests as well and curate an experience for them. This is the best day of your lives and guests will appreciate the little details you put into the special day. After it is all said and done, unplug from everyone and just love on each other and enjoy your new adventure as husband and wife!

Also, start planning as soon as you get engaged! Time flies so fast when you’re are planning and the more time you can take in figuring out the details, the better and less stressed you will be. Figure out what your must-haves are if you are on a budget and try to incorporate some DIY details. It gives your special day a personal touch and guests will appreciate and notice the personal touches. Most importantly, have fun with it and remember that this special day is for the two of you

We gave our guests little heart shaped bird seed favors. We call each other “bird” and so we loved that the little favor tag said: “From the Lovebirds.” We also loved that they were eco-friendly!

Processional – “Heaven Waits” by Geographer
Recessional – “Sounds Like Hallelujah” mix by The Head and the Heart, followed by “You Are the Best Thing” by Ray LaMontagne
First Dance – “Corners Of The Earth” by ODESZA (feat. RY X)

One of my favorite moments involved a special surprise vendor: In-N-Out! My husband loves In-N-Out and kept telling me that we would end up driving through there at the end of the night. I planned a surprise for him towards the latter part of our wedding evening and ordered him and our guests an In-N-Out truck for a late night snack option. He was beside himself and our guests loved it!

The Modern Ethereal Design of This Ebell Long Beach Wedding Will Blow You Away

July 28, 2018 | Junebug Weddings

Ariel and Jeremy brought a sense of yin and yang to their Ebell Long Beach wedding! Because of the groom’s outgoing personality, they chose vibrant pink florals from Poppyhill Flowers, which they used in one of the most stunning bougainvillea ceremony arches we’ve seen. As a nod to the bride’s laid-back personality, the wedding party attire and table details were beautiful neutral shades with pops of gold. Against the Spanish-Revival architecture and design of the historic Long Beach venue, their color palette could not have been more beautiful! Pop The Champagne Events brought a cool, modern California style to the decor, as well, with a geometric cake stand, tall pampas grass reception table centerpieces, and minimal place settings. And, for an ethereal twist, the bride wore an effortless Sarah Seven dress and twisted half-up hairstyle with a long veil. We can’t get enough of the images Abigail R Collins Photography captured of this truly incredible and eye-catching wedding!

The Couple:

Ariel and Jeremy

The Wedding:

Ebell Long Beach, California

We wanted to capture our love for humor, lightheartedness, and adoration for each-other while being surrounded by the ones we love. We wanted the guests to truly enjoy themselves and we wanted to be fully present throughout our day.

You know when people say, “When you find your soulmate/love you just know.” Well, that’s how we felt about Ebell Long Beach. We saw pictures online and immediately we just knew. Seeing the venue in person just sealed the deal and set the tone for the rest of our wedding.

Vibrant pink and neutrals were our wedding colors. Jeremy is a very vibrant person who is full of energy and always greets you with a big smile and a warm embrace, whereas I have a calm and more subdued energy. Both colors reflected our personality perfectly as we are definitely a “yin-yang” couple.

We had a scripted Jewish ceremony so our personal touches came through with our music choice and impromptu giggles, kisses, and waves during the ceremony.

After our ceremony, we scampered upstairs to our private suite that was filled with refreshments and delicious appetizers. As the guests were mingling below, we got a moment to be with each other, talk about the ceremony and anything else that was on our mind. It was such a moment of stillness and relaxation in a very scheduled day.

Planning a wedding can be challenging so we wanted to make sure the process was as simple and as enjoyable as possible. It may not be “sexy” to talk about, but we discussed in length our budget, must-haves, and parts we were flexible on before researching vendors. No wedding is worth going into debt for so have the talk, do your research, and don’t be shy in asking vendors if they’d be open to negotiating.

We DIY-ed our guests’ name cards with gold ink. My mother is a graphic designer, so she created the save the date cards, invitations, website graphics, welcome sign, reserved seating signs, and table numbers. It pays to have artsy-fartsy family members!

Jeremy‘s little cousin started to break-dance on the ground during our reception and so, naturally, being a former professional ballerina I wanted to join in. Since I was in my wedding dress, when I went to spin on my back I heard a huge ripping sound as I finished the spin and was posing on my side. Whoops there it was, a huge hole and my strap fell off! I wasn’t expecting to break-dance at my wedding nor was I expecting to have our day of coordinator sew me up!
