One Part Vintage, One Part Boho was the Perfect Recipe for This Indianapolis Wedding at The Benton House

January 23, 2019 | Junebug Weddings

Skating the line between vintage elegance and boho charm, Claire and Jesse created an unforgettable wedding at The Benton House! The couple softened the vintage feel of the venue with boho florals designed by Homegrown Florist, an autumnal color palette, and a handmade A-frame ceremony arch that woodland wedding dreams are made of. The bride’s own style, which featured a long-sleeved lace gown from Flora & Lane and flower crown, fit the vibe perfectly, as well. From first look to first dance, and all the intimate moments in between, Eight31 Photography captured this beautiful fall wedding with the care and artistry it deserved!

The most important thing to us was remembering that it was our day. We didn’t want to do things for the sake of “that’s just how things are done.” We’re both private and low key, so from deciding to have a very intimate ceremony to choosing to not have a wedding party, we wanted the day to reflect who we are as a couple. Our wedding had a lot of nontraditional aspects to it, and we wouldn’t have had it any other way.

Our favorite part of the day was our first look before the ceremony. It was just the two of us. We read our wedding vows to each other for the first time and then popped our favorite bottle of Cantillon, a Belgian-style beer.

Whenever anyone asked what the theme of our wedding was, I always answered with, “It’s a little vintage and a little boho.” When we decided on The Benton House, I used that as inspiration for everything else. From the flower crown and my wedding dress to the triangle arch and the rented vintage furniture for guests to sit on during the ceremony, I tried to compliment the vintage setting with a laid back and soft bohemian vibe.

One of the most special DIY items was our wedding arch, which my dad built and stained himself. Our florist decorated it with cascading greenery and flowers, and it was pure magic.

Our photographer was the best, and I’m not just saying that. She is calm, confident, and, while she has a vision for her art, she also has a way of letting moments unfold as intended. She let us just be us, capturing the sweetest, most intimate, and candid moments of our wedding day.

Processional – “Love Is All (Instrumental)” by Tallest Man on Earth
Recessional – “Dawned On Me” by Wilco
First Dance – “Beautiful Thing” by Grace VanderWaal

During the reception, our DJ — who is a very close friend of ours — surprised everyone with a fog machine and played “Thriller” by Michael Jackson. Everyone screamed and rushed onto the dance floor. The photos our photographer took are moody, a little spooky, but most of all, so cool!

Let the Earthy Autumnal Tones in this No Business Lodge Wedding in McCall, Idaho Inspire Your Color Palette

January 22, 2019 | Junebug Weddings

Jessica and Chris’ outdoor wedding at No Business Lodge was a little boho, a little modern, and a whole lot of beautiful from top to bottom! Combing their love for bohemian style, their ability to create impressive DIY projects, and their desire for their wedding day to look and feel timeless, they and their planner from Emily Aitken Events put together one unforgettable celebration in the mountains of Idaho. Rust + Thistle Floral took cues from the natural landscape in creating floral designs with an autumnal vibe, most notably for the bride’s textural bouquet and the bridesmaids’ asymmetrical copper hoops. From first look to break dancing on the dance floor, Maggie Grace Photography was there to capture every moment of this incredible late-summer mountain wedding!

Letterpress is my all-time favorite when it comes to paper goods. I got a Letterpress starter kit and a die cutting manual machine. With the help of Boxcar Press‘s blog and their plate-making service, I managed to make some goodies for our wedding! I made the map, directions, and RSVP cards. I also designed the vellum cover and a detail card. I also printed the envelopes and the attach liners, designed with brushed patterns from artist Dinara May. As a final touch, I wrapped the invitation suites with copper thread and added some greenery.

My walk down the aisle song was “Saturday Sun” by Vance Joy. We chose this because after 6 months of chatting after we met on Tinder, we met in person in LA, and it was a sunny Saturday in February. The lyric, “Saturday sun, I met someone, out on the west coast,” just fit us!

I had 20 or so friends coming from Taiwan and they’re all PARTY ANIMALS! So, I knew our venue had to be somewhere that we could be as loud as we want, with no time limits, and space for us all to pass out right after the party. No Business Lodge was beyond perfect for our situation!

As much as I love boho style, I didn’t want everything to be super boho. I also wanted to tie in some modern, timeless feels. That’s why I decided to make a few different copper geometric shapes of hoops for my bridesmaids and have our awesome florist add her amazing work! For the favors, we wanted something our guests could use in the future that also had some boho tones to remind them of the mountains. So, we went with mini dream catchers made of mini gold rings and cotton rope of colors cream and grey. We also made leather keychains with one side that said, “Idaho,” and one side that said, “ni shea” (our last names).

In Taiwan, the brides usually change outfit 3-5 times for different parts of the day, but that sounded too crazy for me. So, I only had a traditional red dress. While my mom was picking fabric for her dress, she found a beautiful red fabric that was just right for me! We thought it’d be fun if my husband also got a traditional jacket so we were a pair. So, we Facetimed with the tailor in Taiwan, did the measurements, and everything just fit perfectly.

This Boho Glam Palm Desert Elopement Wows with a Rue De Seine Gown

January 21, 2019 | Junebug Weddings

What’s better than a Palm Desert elopement? A Palm Desert elopement that includes a fabulously beaded and tasseled bohemian gown from Rue De Seine, of course! Ashleigh and Aaron’s low-key wedding day was the perfect representation of them as a couple. It was so low-key, in fact, they didn’t even know the ceremony location until they arrived! Thanks to the creative genius of Aimlee Photography and all their vendors, though, they had a perfect day in the desert. With palm trees and desert views as far as the eye can see, they exchanged vows and toasted to forever with donuts and champagne. Then they ended the day eating tacos and drinking beer at The Ace Hotel. No fuss, no frill; just tons of love and off-the-charts style!

The Couple:

Ashleigh and Aaron

The Wedding:

Palm Desert, Palm Springs, California

We spent some time in LA before heading to Palm Springs, and there was a little stress involved with the marriage certificate and recovering from jet lag. On the day of our wedding, we woke up and went to the gym at our hotel, then went to the store and got a cold coffee and some supplies for the day. I got my hair blown out at a local salon and then we slowly got ready together in our hotel room. Our photographer arrived at 3 and Aaron helped me get into my dress, then it was like, “Let’s go get married!”

Communication with your creatives is so important, especially when planning an elopement. It’s also great to be over-organized. We were lucky to have such an amazing team for our wedding. We were getting a little stressed out not knowing where to have our ceremony but we just let our team do their jobs and it all worked out beautifully!

We had been following our photographer Amy on Instagram since before we even reached out to her. She is just so much like someone I would be friends with back home in Australia. She is also really good friends with our celebrant and we knew this would help with a super relaxed and fun day. I highly suggest working with teams of creatives that know and have worked with each other at other weddings.

I struggled to find the perfect dress, I actually went to several different bridal stores with my Mum and tried on endless gowns until I found the one. And it was actually a dress that I had seen on Instagram and loved but did not think I would end up choosing it. I wasn’t even going to try it on and my Mum talked me into it, and wow!
