Naturally Beautiful Dinner Wedding at The Crown Inn in Old Amersham

August 17, 2018 | Junebug Weddings

In keeping with the quaint, country inn vibes of The Crown Inn, Rebekah and Joshua created a cozy wedding day that was equal parts traditional and totally unique. After exchanging vows at St. Mary’s Parish Church, the couple joined their guests for a cocktail hour at the inn and then treated everyone to a simple reception with a meal, a few toasts, and a first dance. Between events, Rebekah and Joshua cozied up within the gardens of the venue and along the cobblestone streets of the village for the sweetest portraits captured by Taylor Hughes Photography. We adore that, although they opted for a traditional church wedding ceremony, the couple had a non-traditional, dinner-party style reception that included DIY centerpieces, bunting, table numbers, chair cushions, and sweets bar. Every detail of this wedding was thoughtfully designed to show the couple’s laid-back and romantic style, and perfectly complemented the rustic feel of their cozy inn venue.

The Couple:

Rebekah and Joshua

The Wedding:

The Crown Inn, Amersham, United Kingdom

We did a lot of research and venue visits around the Home Counties, close to where we live. We then happened to visit Amersham Old Town for a coffee and fell in love the quaint village and cobbled streets. After googling a bit further, we came across a small, luxurious inn on the high street that did weddings. What was great about the venue is that is was cozy and charming!

The venue also did not do wedding packages, so we were able to customize our day and make it our own. We found with a lot of venues were priced per person and that was something I was not looking for. I wanted to customize my day and have it how we wanted it. It was then a bonus that the village church happened to be opposite the venue.

Walking out of the church for the first time as a married couple and having a minute to ourselves before the guests followed us out was the most memorable part of the day. It was nice to have a minute alone together as a married couple and let the feeling sink in that we finally tied the knot. I also loved walking through all our guests being showered in confetti!

My beauty look was simply an enhanced natural look. I wanted my makeup to look natural but with that added glow to make it more special than everyday makeup. I loved my wedding dress, and wish I could wear it every day. It was everything I wanted: simple, elegant, stylish. My hairpiece was my something borrowed as it was from a girl at work who had it in her hair for her wedding.

Our best advice: always budget for going over budget! I know this is a cliché but it is good advice. This is something I was told to do and I’m so glad I did because some things did cost more than I had originally planned. Also, I have both bride and groom come up with one item they really want and not compromise on but then compromise on everything else (if it’s needed). For me, my dress was something I didn’t want to compromise on and, for Josh, it was the cake. The fact that we each had one important thing made our day extra special!

We gave each of our guests a mason jar filled with popcorn. When we started dating, we had a film night together every Friday and, more often than not, it was accompanied by popcorn.

These 5 Couples Effortlessly Made Their Large Weddings Feel Small and Intimate

August 16, 2018 | Junebug Weddings

photo by a sea of love

When you think of large weddings, the word “intimate” probably doesn’t come to mind, which is why a lot of couples shy away from them. But, we’re here to tell you, those two things don’t have to be mutually exclusive. These 5 couples proved that you can create an intimate wedding even if your guest list includes 400 people! It’s all about creating heartfelt moments, setting up cozy spaces within your venue, and focusing on the details so that your guests feel welcome and love. If you haven’t already read our ways to craft an intimate wedding even with a large guest list, we highly recommend you start there and then get inspired by these gorgeous, large weddings that felt totally intimate and wildly romantic.

Hannah & Mitchell

It’s no easy feat to create an intimate wedding with a guest list larger than 50 people, but Hannah and Mitchell pulled it off in their Castaway Portland wedding that included 200 of their closest friends and family! They warmed up the industrial ceremony space with rustic aisle markers and an asymmetrical floral backdrop that added a fresh, subtle layer of color to balance out the black chairs and concrete floors. Their reception featured a mix of elegant, linen-covered tables and rustic, farmhouse tables, which gave the space a cozy feel while also providing enough space for guests to move, dance, and enjoy the night. If you can’t get enough of these beautiful details, be sure to check out their full wedding here!

One of the most important parts of our wedding to us was our guests. We opted for a larger wedding of about 200 guests. We feel we are a direct reflection of the amazing community we surround ourselves with, and we wanted our people an intimate part of our wedding. Ensuring our guests were welcomed, comfortable, and had a unique, fun wedding experience was so important to us. We would not be us without them and throwing a party was a way to thank our support system for their unwavering love throughout our lives and kick off this new chapter.

Perlita & Samuel

Perlita and Samuel’s California wedding at Empire Polo Grounds was a true celebration of Mexican culture that was bursting with color and elegance from beginning to end. Although their guest list included 230 people, the feeling of the day was as intimate as could be. By focusing on meaningful details, from the hand-picked clay cups, tiles, and shot glasses from Mexico to the fruit in the floral design, they were able to create a small dinner-party vibe that made each guest feel appreciated and welcome. This wedding is truly exquisite, so be sure to check out every moment here after reading more about it below.

We wanted to make sure our wedding day felt like “us” and wanted all 230 of our guests to have a memorable day. We’re super close to our families and friends, we love to host, and we love a good celebration. It was also super important that our Mexican heritage was represented throughout the day. We incorporated a Mariachi for cocktail hour, Mexican tiles and clay cups that we handpicked in Rosarito, MX, and served both Mexican and American dishes throughout the evening.

Elise & Erik

With 400 people on their guest list, Elise and Erik’s wedding is one of the largest we’ve seen but also one of the most intimate! They transformed 16th Street Station into the Hobbiton party of their dreams. Inspired by the summer party that Bilbo Baggins throws for his 111th birthday, Elise and Erik chose a color-scheme and vibe to carry out through their wedding day. The tables were full of florals, fruits, and vegetables, which filled the space with rich colors. The celebration continued in Hobbit style with a delicious spread of various drinks and dishes for their guests to indulge in. Even though the venue itself was massive and grand, the farm-to-table feel of the tablescapes and cafe lights strung above them gave it the coziest feel. See just how magical the entire day was here!

The most memorable part of the day for both of us was entering into the ceremony and looking out from the stage to see the 400 people who have invested in us, have loved us, and prayed over us. Of course, we had our immediate families there, but we also included on our guest list the baristas that have served us coffee every day for years. It was an amazing moment to look out at the array of guests we had.

Helise & Rizky

Helise and Rizky’s wedding at Khayangan Estate was as epic as they come but also totally intimate and heartfelt. The ceremony took place at the waterfront, where they lined an aisle with white rose petals and had a stunning backdrop covered in the pink roses. For their reception, they created mini vignettes decorated with sentimental pieces, set up multiple lounge areas with different seating options, and hung tons of romantic lighting to make their expansive venue feel personal, warm, and inviting. It’s no easy feat to create such an intimate feel in such a large venue and with so many guests, but they pulled it off flawlessly. You can find every dreamy detail in their full wedding feature here!

Our song is “Magic” by Coldplay and it was the inspiration for our wedding day – lots of lighting and vintage feel. I’ve always wanted to get married outdoors, as well. It all just fell into place.

Jenelle & Johnny

Jenelle and Johnny combined the grandeur of a fairytale ball with the intimate feel of an at-home wedding for a day that was beyond beautiful. The couple kept their ceremony sweet and simple by setting up a canopy and chairs near the lake. For their reception, they rented an incredible clear tent, complete with crystal chandeliers, a variety of rustic and vintage seating options, and some seriously impressive cascading floral arrangements. They set up lounge areas, used vintage-inspired furniture and décor, and kept the palette subtle yet elegant, all of which gave their reception an approached elegant that still felt like a home away from home. You can find their entire fairytale wedding here!

We only had about 7 and a half months to plan the wedding. A lot of the venues we looked at were booked out for a year. So, I started looking at outdoor weddings that had clear tents and fell in love. My parents live on 7 acres in the middle of Southlake, Texas and I convinced my parents that it was perfect. It turned out to be a lot more than just throwing a tent up in the backyard. We had to bring everything to the house, from generators to fancy outdoor bathrooms. It was all worth it though because I got to get married at home, where I grew up. There was something special about getting ready in my family room and walking out the front door to marry my love. I’d do it again in a heartbeat.

Olivette was the Perfect Venue for This DIY Woodsy Asheville Wedding

August 16, 2018 | Junebug Weddings

Linsey and Adam’s love for vintage goods, woodsy locations, and carefree vibes came together beautifully in their Asheville wedding at Olivette. The couple always wanted an outdoor wedding so, when they found a venue that offered a woodsy landscape for their reception and a small, secluded island with a creek for their ceremony, they immediately knew it was the one. To make the venue their own, they brought in antique furniture, books, brass candlesticks, and DIY signage for a one-of-a-kind vintage look. Flora created greenery-forward centerpieces, arbor accents, hoops, and bouquets to add a fresh, organic feel to every nook and cranny. We can’t get over all the DIY projects this creative couple and their loved ones made, especially the bride’s custom gown that her mother made using lace from her own wedding dress. This Asheville wedding was a woodsy dream come true, and Sheila Nolt Photography captured every moment in beautiful detail!

The Couple:

Linsey and Adam

The Wedding:

Olivette, Asheville, North Carolina

While we were planning our wedding, we were also in the process of shopping for a new house in the Asheville area. Nothing was set in stone when we booked our venue but we just knew we would find a house. Somehow we moved in just before for our wedding!

We both wanted an outdoor setting for our wedding. Adam wanted to be near a body of water, and I wanted the spot to be wooded. We looked around online for weeks at all of the venues in the Asheville area, but the ones that were close to the setting we had in mind were either booked, only allowed a small number of guests, or were out of our price range.

Just when we were getting really frustrated and considered moving our date back another year, we came across a new venue called Olivette. We were already familiar with the name because we had looked at the Olivette community for our potential new home. While the houses they were building on that beautiful chunk of land did not fit our budget, their new venue spot did! As soon as we set foot on the winding trail along one of the widest sections of the French Broad, with lush grass pads out to the side and breezy trees standing above, we knew that it was the perfect spot. We actually went ahead and booked it with their event coordinator before we left our tour!

Our ceremony took place on a little island toward the end of the event space where a trickling creek coming off of the river winds behind and around that piece of land, which had the perfect amount of shady trees to keep our guests cool and allow good lighting for photos. It was the perfect balance between water and woods we were looking for! We used their existing twig arbor with a beautiful flower arrangement from Flora as our altar and the flowing French Broad as our backdrop.

We’re both music nerds and both of our families are made up of Beatles fans, so we had a very talented friend play an acoustic Beatles medley as our guests arrived and as family and our wedding party entered. But my (Linsey) father is probably the biggest Beatles fan on the planet and “Here Comes the Sun” has always held a special place in our father-daughter relationship — we even have matching tattoos of it! So, naturally, that’s what he walked me down the aisle to. “I’ve Just Seen A Face” by Paul McCartney was our recessional song.

The most memorable moment — yet probably unnoticed by anyone else — was when Adam kept trying to wink at me during our ceremony. It’s been a running inside joke since we first started dating. I tried winking at him during a date but, like an idiot, I winked with the eye opposite to the side of me he was sitting on, which meant he never saw the wink. I tried a few more times that night, quietly getting upset that he still wasn’t noticing my hidden (literally) wink. Ever since we’ll randomly wink with the opposite eye to each other as a joke. After he did this 3 or 4 times during the opening prayer, I finally noticed and couldn’t stop laughing for the remainder of the ceremony!

Adam and I met at an antique show he was working. He used to restore furniture and had a few pieces on exhibit. That shared interest is what initially bonded us and antiques/heirlooms/furnishings, in general, are still a shared passion. We had both recently lost grandmothers. Since they weren’t able to physically be with us on our wedding day, we were able to bring some special things from their homes into our wedding decor — antique tables, chairs, candle holders, vases, mirrors. This quickly shaped the look and feel of our big day and felt so natural as these pieces spoke so strongly to our shared interest of “vintage.”

I knew I wanted my mother to make my wedding dress. She had made a few in the past along with her entire wardrobe throughout high school and college. And the lace from her 1970s wedding dress came from my late grandparents’ fabric store. I found a 1930s evening gown pattern in my grandmother’s fabric store loot that I fell in love with. My mother and I worked together to customize that pattern, and then she embellished it with the lace she removed from her dress.

There was only a 10% chance of rain that day, and our venue was entirely outdoors with the exception of a small sheltered area. I am not a fan of event tents so I refused to book one, going on faith that the 10% chance of rain would disappear. The weather held out for our ceremony and allowed all our guests to get at least a first round of dinner. But then the bottom fell out…and our band’s gear got soaked. Fortunately, being the good friends they were, they quickly grabbed all their non-electronic instruments and began an a cappella set! Tyler, their frontman, held a plastic cup to his mouth to project his voice just a little further. All our 160+ guests were crowded under that tiny shelter and just danced! Everyone was soaked — from both rain and sweat — and seemed very impressed that our band made the best of the situation. Looking back, we still wouldn’t have rented that tent because that was the most intimate, let-lose wedding reception I’ve ever experienced! (And we heard the same from our guests!)
