Fairy Tale Tuscany Wedding at Castello di Vincigliata

August 29, 2018 | Junebug Weddings

Tiffany and Carlos’ wedding at Castello di Vincigliata was truly a real-life fairytale in the heart of Tuscany! From the castle venue to the ethereal floral design by Flowers Living to the bride’s custom designed ballgown, every detail of this wedding had us swooning. The couple infused aspects of both their religious and cultural traditions into not only the ceremony with 3 unique unity ceremonies but also into the reception with signature cocktails that represented their respective backgrounds and dance floor surprises for their guests that we’re certain they will never forget! Photographer Stefano Santucci went above and beyond in capturing the quiet, romantic moments alongside the energetic party moments to show off the couple’s unique love story and unforgettable wedding day!

The Couple:

Tiffany and Carlos

The Wedding:

Castello di Vincigliata, Florence, Italy

Planning a wedding involves a lot of decision making, and we made sure that we both worked together as a team to bring out our personalities in every choice we made. From the beginning, we knew we wanted a lot of things done a certain way. We were both very passionate about different aspects of the wedding, and in the end, we wanted to guarantee that our personalities both emanated through every moment of that day.

We decided not to have a religious ceremony but a symbolic one since we are not of the same religion and neither of us wanted to convert. So, to personalize the ceremony, we decided to include three rituals that we felt were more in line with our beliefs as a couple. In the first ritual, we each lit a candle and then between the two of us together lit up a third candle, which will lead the way in new our relationship as a married couple.

For the second ritual, we each poured a glass of wine and then, together, poured them into a shared glass to represent the future union of our blood into our offspring.

For the third ritual, we wanted to pay homage to Carlos’ Greek heritage by performing a crowning ritual that is often used in Greek orthodox ceremonies. We were both crowned as ‘King and Queen of our household’ with crowns made of eucalyptus and olive branches, which were then exchanged three times between our heads to symbolize our new union as a couple.

Being a stylist and image consultant for the past 10 years, it was quite a challenge for me to find the perfect look for such an important day of my life. After trying on a couple (hundred) dresses, I decided to take on the mission of designing my own wedding dress! It was a collaboration between me, my mom, and my dad, who are both in creative fields. After I drew the sketch of the dress, my parents visited me in NY and we all went fabric shopping. We ended up hunting down a Valentino fabric that I fell in love with, which ended up being the accent fabric, layered over a fantastic glittery tulle. I shipped the fabric to my mother’s seamstress in Venezuela, who has sewn for my family for many years. To be completely honest, I did not love how the dress turned out; I’m too much of a perfectionist and it didn’t come out exactly how I had in mind. Nevertheless, it is the most special garment I have ever worn because it is the first thing I have ever created in collaboration with both of my parents.

Start out with an idea of what sort of mood you want your special day to evoke. Understand that there will be compromises throughout the entire process, but remember that only you and your significant other will know of them. Communicate as much as possible with your significant other, and share every responsibility to make sure you are both on the same page. Lastly, think of small details you can incorporate — they are what make weddings, and any other special event, truly memorable.

Carlos is a cocktail enthusiast and an Amaro collector, so for the end of the dinner meal, he made an Amaro from scratch (and later smuggled three litters of it to Italy in water bottles) to serve to our guests after dinner. The Amaro was a mix of our favorite flavors, including star anise, cardamom, and Szechuan peppercorn, among other things. He also created two signature cocktails to serve during the party, each of which incorporated ingredients that we love and represent our heritage: one showcased ouzo (a typical Greek liqueur), bergamot and mint, while the other featured Vin Santo (a typical Tuscan dessert wine), Mirto, and cognac.

For our first dance, we decided to do a typical Greek dance. We were introduced by our master of ceremony and came walking down the castle’s courtyard stairs, as a live Greek band played a traditional Greek song from the ’70s. We had waiters pass out empty plates to all of our guests as they were watched us dance. Towards the end of the song, we each got one plate and with all the energy and adrenaline of the moment, raised them and smashed them into the floor. I will never forget the look on our guests faces when they realized they too could smash their plates. It was an incredible first dance!

75 Guests Enjoyed the Vintage Vibes at This Austin Wedding at The Carrington

August 28, 2018 | Junebug Weddings

With thrift store finds and personal treasures from their own home, Rae and Christian created the wedding of every vintage-lovers dreams for their big day at The Carrington. Their outdoor ceremony and reception were as intimate as could be, featuring mismatched furniture, a macrame ceremony arch, vintage rugs, colorful glass vases, and a VW bus provided by Vannagram & Co. that made for some seriously sweet couple portraits captured by From the Daisies. The couple followed their vintage vibe all the way through to their fashion choices, as well, with Rae donning a high-neck lace dress from Unbridaled and gold coin headpiece and Christian rocking a burgundy suit, floral print shirt and tie, and fedora hat.

The Couple:

Rae and Christian

The Wedding:

The Carrington, Austin, Texas

From the bride: During planning, I gave so much attention to the reception that I didn’t even think about the ceremony affected me as much as it did. I remember sitting in the 1979 Volkswagen bus, listening to the engine sputter with a slight smell of gasoline, waiting by myself in the back of the bus to be driven around to the ceremony, thinking this it, take this moment in, and that’s just what I did. Even with doing the first look there is nothing like walking down the aisle seeing your husband-to-be standing up there. From stepping out of that bus to writing our own vows to dancing down the aisle to one of our favorite songs “Home” by Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros as newlyweds while flower petals were thrown at us, the ceremony by far was the most memorable.

From the groom: By far was watching Rae walk down the aisle. Nothing else I’ve done feels as significant as that moment.

I love my wedding dress story! I went to try on dresses on a whim one day after work and found the dress. But, because it had an expensive price tag, I knew I better keep looking. I went to a few other stores with no luck. Discouraged, I told my now husband that I was just going to have to get that dress. It was the one, and I was starting to feel defeated. Days into feeling unsure on what to do, I got an email from Unbridaled saying it was the last day I could order the dress because it was going to be discontinued. At that point, I had made my mind up it was the dress. Of course, I opened my email a day late. I called them frantically hoping I could still get the dress ordered. The answer was no, but the floor model was available to purchase for 50 % off. I swear I think of all the dresses I tried on it was one of the only ones that actually fit! It was truly meant to be. It was the dress I wanted, and it just worked out.

With a guest list of 75 we wanted to keep the venue on the more intimate quaint side. We loved the vintage feel from the old building, and the backyard feeling from the courtyard. With no rain we did both the ceremony and reception outside, which we loved getting to dance under the stars and the lit bulb string lights. We liked having the indoor option just in case it did decide to rain.

We basically moved everything that was in our house to the wedding to decorate. Our house was very sparse looking from taking everything from dishes we had been collecting from thrift stores to the rugs lying on the floor to pictures hanging off the wall. The vibe of the wedding came very naturally to us. Loved having used items that we get to look at on the daily.

Processional – “Here Comes the Sun” by The Beatles (instrumental) and “Top of the World” by The Carpenters
Recessional – “Home” by Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros
First Song – “February Seven” by The Avett Brothers

The colors came from this an embroidered piece of artwork that hangs in our living room. I found the piece a few years ago from an estate sale. Who knew that one day it would be the inspiration piece to the whole wedding. Even the invitations were inspired by this piece. It hung behind us while we were cutting the cake.

We wanted to do something different, which is hard to do sometimes. I am a sucker for a photo booth at any party. However, they can be very expensive. Thought of combining the favors and our idea of a “photo booth” into one with having an event sketch artist. This was a total hit. The guests loved getting to have their portrait drawn while getting a keepsake from our wedding.

This Boho Chic Manhattan Elopement Ended with an Intimate First Dance in Central Park

August 27, 2018 | Junebug Weddings

High-fashion meets carefree boho in Kayla and Brennan’s Manhattan elopement. As a fashion blogger, Kayla has a keen sense of style and it comes out strong in her and Brennan’s wedding day look. Kayla opted for two Island Tribe dresses – one slightly edgy with major fringe detail and one flowy with major bohemian vibes – but both are total swoon-worthy. After quick “I do’s” at the NYC Courthouse, these two strutted around the city for some incredible portraits by Nicole Leone Miller before celebrating in an intimate brunch reception with 12 of their family and friends at Maman Greenpoint.

The most important part in planning our elopement was making it solely about us. We really wanted to soak up every moment together and celebrate in a way that felt genuine to our love.

The most memorable part of the day was getting ready together in the morning and riding in a checkered taxi to the courthouse! We were able to share in the excitement and anticipation while taking in the gorgeous views of downtown Manhattan.

We wanted to keep the planning as stress-free as possible. We achieved this by trusting our amazing photographer (and close friend), Nicole, to come along on our adventure and help bring our vision to life! When eloping, it’s so important to find a photographer that you feel comfortable sharing your most intimate moments with and who understands exactly who you are as a couple!

I am a bohemian fashion blogger, which definitely influenced our wedding day looks! I fell in love with two dresses from Island Tribe. The first dress was a fitted lace dress with beaded fringe details, which went perfectly with our Manhattan city hall ceremony! My reception dress was a flowing lace dress with bell sleeves, giving off a more laid-back, playful vibe! My groom wore a navy blue suit with velvet trim with a floral tie that matched the floral theme of our wedding!

When planning our brunch reception, we decided to forgo decorations and instead chose our favorite French bakery, Maman, that already has a beautiful interior! The bakery perfectly suited the theme of our elopement, which allowed us to just show up and spend time celebrating!

Our first dance was to a single violin playing “All You Need is Love” in Strawberry Fields, The John Lennon Memorial inside Central Park. It was extremely special to us being avid Beatles fans and is one of our favorite places in the city!
