This Boho Glam Palm Desert Elopement Wows with a Rue De Seine Gown

January 21, 2019 | Junebug Weddings

What’s better than a Palm Desert elopement? A Palm Desert elopement that includes a fabulously beaded and tasseled bohemian gown from Rue De Seine, of course! Ashleigh and Aaron’s low-key wedding day was the perfect representation of them as a couple. It was so low-key, in fact, they didn’t even know the ceremony location until they arrived! Thanks to the creative genius of Aimlee Photography and all their vendors, though, they had a perfect day in the desert. With palm trees and desert views as far as the eye can see, they exchanged vows and toasted to forever with donuts and champagne. Then they ended the day eating tacos and drinking beer at The Ace Hotel. No fuss, no frill; just tons of love and off-the-charts style!

The Couple:

Ashleigh and Aaron

The Wedding:

Palm Desert, Palm Springs, California

We spent some time in LA before heading to Palm Springs, and there was a little stress involved with the marriage certificate and recovering from jet lag. On the day of our wedding, we woke up and went to the gym at our hotel, then went to the store and got a cold coffee and some supplies for the day. I got my hair blown out at a local salon and then we slowly got ready together in our hotel room. Our photographer arrived at 3 and Aaron helped me get into my dress, then it was like, “Let’s go get married!”

Communication with your creatives is so important, especially when planning an elopement. It’s also great to be over-organized. We were lucky to have such an amazing team for our wedding. We were getting a little stressed out not knowing where to have our ceremony but we just let our team do their jobs and it all worked out beautifully!

We had been following our photographer Amy on Instagram since before we even reached out to her. She is just so much like someone I would be friends with back home in Australia. She is also really good friends with our celebrant and we knew this would help with a super relaxed and fun day. I highly suggest working with teams of creatives that know and have worked with each other at other weddings.

I struggled to find the perfect dress, I actually went to several different bridal stores with my Mum and tried on endless gowns until I found the one. And it was actually a dress that I had seen on Instagram and loved but did not think I would end up choosing it. I wasn’t even going to try it on and my Mum talked me into it, and wow!

This Modern Minimalist One Eleven East Wedding Began with an Emotional Serenade

January 20, 2019 | Junebug Weddings

There’s something so heartwarming about a bride or groom surprising their partner on their wedding day, and the surprise serenade in this One Eleven East wedding is one of the sweetest we’ve seen! Ellen and Nick’s wedding day was planned to be as minimalist and modern as possible so they and their guests could focus on the true purpose of the day. Rather than add too much decor, they brought in lots of fresh greenery and white flowers designed by The Heirloom Table and simple gold table accents, and nothing more. The rest of their vibe was created with raw emotion, overflowing joy, and the goal to be fully present in every moment, all of which Diana Ascarrunz Photography managed to capture so beautifully. From Nick’s surprise serenade outside Ellen’s getting-ready room to the reactions during the speeches and toasts, everything about this small-town Texas wedding was heartfelt and real.

Nick surprised me before the ceremony by singing me a song he had been practicing. It was a total surprise and Diana, our photographer, helped orchestrate the whole thing. She even had the bridal party stand on the stairs throughout the whole thing, which made for some amazing photos.

We wanted to go with a minimalistic style. I have been to weddings where there are so many details it almost becomes too much. In order to keep it clean and aesthetically pleasing, we decided to have a few well thought out details. We have over 50 houseplants in our house, so we decided to incorporate our love of greenery.

At the beginning of the planning, I knew two things for sure: I wanted my bridesmaids to wear white, and I wanted them to love their dress! I wanted them to feel beautiful and to look back on the photos and love how they looked on that day. That was very important to me. My mom always tells stories of being in hideous bridesmaids dresses and that’s what she remembers most about those weddings.

I was very careful about The vendors I chose. I remember some friends telling me that I was being too picky, but having the right people there who understand the look you’re going for and what you care most about it so important, it made our day seamless and everyone went above our expectations.

The speeches were really great. We thought long and hard about who we wanted to speak. It’s hard to know what those close to you will choose to share about you and how they see your relationship from their perspective. All the speeches were so unique and heartwarming.

Choosing Your Wedding Size

From hiring top-notch wedding vendors to curating your ideal guest-list—there’s a lot that goes into planning a  wedding. There is no one-size-fits all wedding—that fact holds true for your guest list, too. Your guest list is used as a foundation for many details in the planning process. From event space capacity to catering options—the size of your list directly affects your big day.

We strongly recommend sitting down with your future-spouse and intentionally curating a rough draft of your guest list before touring wedding venues or contacting potential wedding vendors. This won’t be your final draft, so think of it as your dream list. When you close your eyes and picture your wedding, who will be present to witness your vows? We have compiled the pros and cons for each wedding size to help you decide which is best for you.

Opting For a Large Wedding

Dreaming of an over-the-top large wedding surrounded by all of your loved ones then a large wedding is perfect for you. A large wedding allows you to celebrate you as a couple, but also the people who’ve had an impact on your life. Whether it’s your sorority sisters, your second-grade teacher, or your dad’s boss who gave you your first job—you can’t imagine saying “I do” without each and every person by your side.

While throwing the party of the year is something many couples (and their families) dream of, it can understandably cost a pretty penny. With larger weddings come bigger costs and more planning time needed. Venues that accommodate upwards of 150 people are fewer and farther between, so be sure to book early if you’re planning a large affair. Since a larger wedding requires more planning, consider longer engagement or hiring top-notch vendors that will help bring your big vision to life.

Choosing to Host a Medium-Sized Wedding

Many couples consider a medium wedding to be just right. For couples not wanting to trim their guest-list, but still want intimate wedding moments—a medium wedding is fit for you. Unlike a larger wedding, you’ll have the opportunity to greet all of your guests, and not to mention, a medium wedding will lower costs accommodating your carefully calculated budget.

More About Micro Wedding Guest Counts

Maybe sharing your vows in front of a large crowd makes you uncomfortable. Maybe you’re looking to save money. Micro-weddings—an emerging wedding trend that we don’t see going away anytime soon—allow for couples to prioritize intimate and personalized wedding moments without having to sacrifice the involvement of their loved ones. The focus of a smaller wedding is entirely on you as a couple and the love you share. There’s nothing better than celebrating in an intimate setting among your closest family and friends.

This smaller wedding style gives you and your partner creative freedom—allowing you to focus your planning efforts fully on what you want rather than what is expected of a traditional wedding. Dealing with disappointed friends and relatives who didn’t make your guest-list may, unfortunately, can be a downfall with a small wedding but not all is lost. From hiring top-notch wedding photographers and videographers or live-streaming your wedding ceremony for family and friends—there are many solutions that allow you to have the best of both worlds.

Elopement Wedding Size Options

With weddings getting smaller and intimacy becoming a priority, more and more couples have considered trading a large traditional wedding for an elopement-styled ceremony. Whether you stay local or travel, an elopement is the most intimate option available to focus on your love. The perfect option for couples looking to beat the wedding planning stress and save money. Saying your vows, celebrating your union, and starting your next adventure—that’s what it’s all about.

With so few people involved, the vendor selection process is even more important. Spend time interviewing officiants, photographers, videographers, or anyone else who might be involved. Once you’ve booked your vendors, get together before the big day to get to know each other a little better. This way you aren’t saying your vows and spending your wedding day with total strangers! With elopements, having an exceptional photographer or videographer becomes even more important for the friends and family who weren’t present. They can relive your wedding with you and share in your day.

Whether you’re dreaming of an over-the-top traditional wedding or a small intimate micro-wedding, we’ve got you covered. Small or large—the size of your guest list won’t affect the memorability of your big day. There are many unique elements that can be used to create an unforgettable wedding day.
