A Perfectly Chic Downtown Wedding at Brix and Mortar

January 18, 2019 | Junebug Weddings

With industrial vibes, tons of natural foliage, and contemporary styling, Lisa and Marshall’s special day at Brix and Mortar was what urban wedding dreams are made of! Because the venue offered nearly everything in-house, the couple only had to worry about showing up and looking super classy. They nixed a traditional wedding party and even choosing a color scheme in favor of creating a natural, effortless, and true-to-them celebration, with the help of Inspired Events Group. After their emotional first look and portraits with around town Sachin Khona, they said, “I do” in a stunningly charming courtyard and toasted to forever with a cocktail style reception that focused on food, music, and impeccable drinks. If you think urban weddings are all concrete and clean lines, get ready for Lisa and Marshall to change your perception!

The Couple:

Lisa and Marshall

The Wedding:

Brix and Mortar, Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada

We chose Brix and Mortar in Yaletown because of its location, set up, and aesthetic. We felt at ease knowing Brix was so experienced running weddings, and we didn’t need to bring in any additional furniture, food, etc. And you can’t beat the brick, foliage, and twinkly lights of the atrium!

We went with a more informal cocktail style reception that focused on good music, food, and drinks. Our priority was making sure everyone had a great time. We decided not to stress about favours, colour schemes, and a wedding party. We opted for a guitarist, donuts, and photo booth for a little fun.

Processional – “Wonderful Tonight” by Eric Clapton
Recessional – “At Last” by Etta James
First Dance – “Stand By Me” by Florence and the Machine, followed by “Harvest Moon” by Neil Young

Modern Romantic Saddlerock Ranch Wedding in Shades of Dusty Blue

January 17, 2019 | Junebug Weddings

Caitlin and Cameron’s Saddlerock Ranch wedding was as heartfelt as it was modern and romantic. The couple chose the incredible St. Charles Borromeo church to exchange vows and then celebrated with their nearest and dearest in an outdoor reception in the Oak Grove of Saddlerock Ranch. Because they were moving from Texas to California — and booked the reception venue without seeing it in person — they counted on Orange Blossom Special Events to execute their vibe, and they came through big time. From the dusty blue palette to the lush florals designed by Inessa Nichols Design to the modern touches, every detail was total perfection, and photographer Emily Magers captured it all brilliantly!

The Couple:

Caitlin and Cameron

The Wedding:

St. Charles Borromeo and Saddlerock Ranch, California

A lot of the things you worry about leading up to the day won’t matter to you on the actual day. Don’t stress over the small stuff. Make a decision and move forward. We were engaged for 8 months but because of a cross country move didn’t start planning until 6 months out. We loved it because it made us have to be decisive and didn’t give us time to overthink anything. The short engagement surprisingly made it a lot less stressful for us.

The only surprise we had was small but I loved it. My dad used to sing me the 1920’s song Side by Side when I was a little girl. The band learned the song to play for the father-daughter dance without my Dad knowing. When they called us up for the dance my Dad looked at me and goes, “Do you even know what we are dancing to?” It was a fun moment when they started playing the song.

My favorite photos were actually ones I almost decided not to do. The photographer, Emily, came up to us at dinner right at sunset and asked to steal us for 15 minutes for pictures. I really didn’t want to miss any of the dinner so I was about to say no but changed my mind after I realized it wouldn’t take much time. We walked hand in hand by the vineyards and under a willow tree while Emily shot photos of us. Those ended up being my favorite pictures of the day.

One of the most memorable parts of the day was the very end of the night. We decided to have an exit the week of the wedding. We had LED balloons to light up our path to the car and all of the guests lined up next to the balloons. As we drove away, in the spur of the moment, the guests pulled the balloons from the ground and let them go. We watched them float away from the car as we left. It was a perfect ending to the day.
