We’re Starry-Eyed Over This Rustic Celestial Wedding on a Private Vermont Farm

July 18, 2019 | Junebug Weddings

If you think Madison and Ken’s celestial wedding is incredible, just wait until you read the story behind it! Their wedding day was set at a private family farm and was entirely inspired by the starry night they saw on their first trip to their farm while they were dating. To recreate that magical night, the couple set up a clear tent, hung dozens of star lanterns, and added celestial-themed details that took their guests on a wildly romantic journey. Petals Vermont then rounded out the overall rustic look with tons of greenery and red blooms. Even more captivating than the details, though, was the love and the gratitude Madison and Ken exuded throughout their entire day. Thanks to their fabulously talented photographer, Hannah of Ramblefree Photo Co., we felt every ounce of emotion these two poured into each other and into their guests — it was truly a sight to behold!

The Couple:

Madison and Ken

The Wedding:

Private Farm, Orwell, Vermont

From the very beginning, it was important to us that our wedding be a true representation of who we are as a couple. We wanted our guests to see hints of us in all elements of the day. It was also very important to us that our guests (almost all of whom traveled from New Jersey to be with us) had a spectacular time and felt loved and appreciated. Creating that feeling began with selecting our venue. We often visit Ken‘s aunt and uncle at their farm in Vermont (one of our favorite places to be) and we were so fortunate that they allowed us to host our wedding there.

The first time Ken took me to visit the farm, as we were arriving near Orwell in the middle of the night, he pulled the car to the side of the road and we laid down on the ground to look up at the stars. It was a special moment, and the vision of that night sky never left us. So, we wanted to encourage all of our guests to take a moment to look up and appreciate the same view. Our starry night theme grew from there — complete with a clear tent and star lanterns.

As we planned, we tried to make sure everything we included in the day felt true to us and what we love most–from the save-the-dates (camp-themed notebooks) and campfire (which represented our love of camping and the outdoors) to the dinner music (all from bands we had seen live over the years) to the lawn games (which represented the game nights we host for our friends) to our insistence that there be delicious, unfussy food (including the BIGGEST cheese board) for our guests to nosh on and good booze on tap to drink (mainstays at all parties we host as we love to cook).

We decided that we wanted to write our own vows early on in our planning process, but we still wanted to recite some of the same promises to one another. Together, we wrote a set of vows that we would both repeat to one another, then each of us wrote our own personal vows that we read to each other for the first time during the ceremony. Ken wrote about a night he surprised me by driving me out into middle-of-nowhere Pennsylvania in the middle of the night to watch a meteor shower. I wrote about one of the first conversations we ever had. Reading the vows in front of our loved ones felt so personal and powerful, and it helped tell the story of how we fell in love.

One piece of advice I read early on was to only choose things to include in your wedding that really speak to you, and I think we took that to heart. Nothing was included in our wedding “just because” and we spent a lot of time curating elements that best conveyed how we felt about the day and each other. It was hard work, but the end result was so rewarding. It was truly a day that we will never forget. Trust your gut and have fun planning, what made our planning experience so enjoyable was that we treated it as an opportunity to reflect on our journey.

Because our guests traveled from so far, it was important to us that they felt appreciated and cared for, so there were lots of special things to take home! Welcome boxes were given out at the hotels that included trail mix, local chocolate, and planispheres depicting the constellations, among other odds and ends. At the wedding, enameled camp mugs with s’mores fixings inside were given out, as well as serape blankets.

We spent a lot of time on DIY elements for the wedding! We packaged our save-the-dates and helped design our invitation suite. For the decor, we stained and finished the wood moons used for the seating chart and place cards, stained and finished the cornhole boards and moon backdrop my uncle built for us, and built our ceremony arch. Lastly, I embroidered the embroidery hoops with constellations to use as our table numbers, assembled our welcome boxes and the s’mores favors, and assembled and hung all the star lanterns. PHEW!

Dolce and Gabbana Served as the Inspiration for This Chic Lisbon Wedding in a Private Palace

If chic wedding style and a private palace venue — yes, you read that correctly — are on your list of wedding must-haves, get ready to fall deeply in love with Ksenia and Jeff’s romantic Lisbon wedding! MUZA Weddings Concept outdid themselves with this one, helping the couple combine their love of art, the cosmos, and the early Baroque style used in the D&G 2018 Fall/Winter Collection into a cohesive look that was as elegant as it was romantic. While the bride stunned in a sparkly gown and the groom looked dapper in a classic tux, their wedding party and guests chose attire to match the wedding color palette, which gave the entire day a formal (but not stuffy) look. Photographer Hugo Coelho‘s background in news media was a true asset in documenting this special day because, although the celebration was perfectly curated, the images felt totally organic.

It Doesn’t Get More Glam or Romantic Than This Cole’s Garden Wedding in Oklahoma City

When Amanda and James began planning their Cole’s Garden wedding in Oklahoma City, they knew two things with absolute certainty: they wanted to create a “wow” factor that was all their own, and they wanted photographer Melissa Marshall to captured it all! So, it should come as no surprise that we’re completely obsessed with everything about this oh-so-romantic wedding day! The couple started with a classic vibe by selecting champagne bridesmaids’ gowns and using tons of candles and antique furniture to decorate the venue. Then they added a modern twist with modern calligraphy, neon signs, and a geometric wedding cake made by Amy Cakes. To finish it off, they tasked Poppy Lane Design with creating “organized chaos” with over-the-top floral designs that added a totally glamorous look. Wow factor = achieved!

The Couple:

Amanda and James

The Wedding:

Cole’s Garden, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma

If I had to pick just one of the most memorable moments of the day, it would be when James shed some tears during our vow exchange. At that point we had been together for about 7.5 years, but I had never seen him cry before. We felt it would be important to write and personalize our own vows, and I’m so glad we did. Seeing him tear up made my heart burst with emotions, and everything about that moment was perfect. There wasn’t a dry eye in the crowd.

Growing up, I always dreamt about what I would look like on my wedding day, and that image always included a long train. That said, I never dreamt I would cry when I found my dress, but when I put that baby on, “the moment” was so real. I had never felt so beautiful, and it was everything I could’ve wanted. It had the most romantic lace and beaded details throughout the gown. I made the dress my own by turning an extra beaded applique into removable off-the-shoulder sleeves. I felt amazing in it!

As part of Vietnamese tradition, the bride and groom will change into their ‘ao dai’ while visiting with guests and toasting to a happy marriage during dinner. Both our ao dais were custom made in Vietnam during my mom’s yearly visit. I also wanted a dress that would be easy to move in on the dance floor, so I changed yet again into a great backless slip dress from Lovers and Friends that gave me moves like Jagger all night.

I’m floral obsessed and knew I wanted heavy flowers where it mattered. I told my florist my floral vision was “organized chaos.” I wanted everything to be intentionally unintentional. When my florist knew what I was talking about right off the bat I knew she was my girl! I also knew I wanted the sensation of dancing under the stars with flowers dripping all night. We accomplished this with lots of string lighting and a stunning flower chandelier over the dance floor.

James is an avid whiskey connoisseur so we decided to do a whiskey tasting for our guest during cocktail hour. We brought in some local Kansas City whiskey that James loves such as Rieger and Tom’s town, along with other ones he adores. We also made one of our signature cocktails a horse feather, which is a staple whiskey cocktail around the Kansas City area. Everyone at the wedding was a huge fan of the tasting and cocktails.

The most important wedding planning advice I can give is to hire a great wedding planner! Ariana, with Aisle Be With You, was a godsend! She worked with me on bringing my vision to life and made it all cohesive, while also keeping a running budget along the way. Planners have connections to the wedding industry and work with different vendors every weekend. They can steer you in the right direction when it comes to selecting a team to achieve a certain vision. I know a lot of times people will cut out the planner to save money but I really believe that we ended up saving money by having the guidance of a planner. They will also answer all the big day questions by vendors, caterers, and guests and make sure your day goes as smoothly as possible.

My husband surprised me by having our wedding band learn “What’s Up” by 4 Non Blondes. For as long I can remember, that has always been my go-to karaoke song. I’m a horrible singer, too! For some unknown reason, when I sing that song, I drop about 3 octaves lower than my actual voice. Close friends and family always associate that song with me, and every time they hear it I’ll usually get a text about how my song is on! When James was planning this with the band, he told them that I would most likely be tipsy and, no matter where I was, I would get really excited, run on stage, grab the mic, and start singing. I did exactly that and the entire crowd sung along. It was a great time and a memory I’ll never forget!
