Dreamy DIY Snohomish Wedding at Wildshoot Forest & Farm

February 5, 2019 | Junebug Weddings

We’re having a hard time thinking of anything cozier than Katie and Marc’s wedding day Wildshoot Forest & Farm! This sweet couple spent months collecting and creating nearly every element of their wedding decor with the goal of not only representing the best of their relationship but also the challenges that made them who they were when they said, “I do.” Their entire day was focused on family, friends, and the love that brought everyone together — and the result was just as magical as you can imagine! Despite the rain, their outdoor ceremony and open-air reception in the farmstead were casual and naturally charming, and photographer Anni Graham captured that vibe with all the grace and softness it deserved.

Katie and Marc

The Wedding:

Wildshoot Forest & Farm, Snohomish, Washington

The most important thing for us was keeping our wedding and the atmosphere around it to be true to ourselves and true to the story of our relationship. We intentionally included references to some harder times and some less-than-perfect moments, because that was the reality of story that we had come through to get to the moment of saying “I do.” We also really strove to make the friends and family that were able to come to feel loved and welcomed to celebrate along with us – we wanted to have a big party, and have a ton of fun, not just have everyone staring at us the whole time.

During the ceremony we had anyone who wanted, come up and surround us, lay hands on us, offer blessings, prayers, and encouragements. It was an amazing moment of feeling held and carried by our community – we knew that we weren’t entering this marriage by alone, but with the support of our friends and our families.

Large portions of our wedding and decorations were DIY. Wildshoot Forest & Farm provided a guided forage of the property the day prior for us to gather greenery and florals that we used for a majority of the centerpieces, chandelier, and other decorations. We used old books to create the table runners and collected brown glass bottles to use for centerpieces. We also handmade the table name cards. With the beauty and charm of the venue and an outdoor ceremony, we were able to keep the decorations pretty minimal and simple, which was a huge help in the planning and decorating process.

We spent months beforehand collecting an eclectic variety of coffee mugs from thrift stores, co-workers, friends, and neighbors for guests to use throughout the night and beyond. Upon arrival, we had a table set up with the mugs (and a sign saying “Let your mug choose you”) and guests could choose which mug called out to them.

Our best advice: You probably have more talented and creative people in your life who love you than you realize, don’t be afraid to ask them for help! There’s no way we could have done this by ourselves, nor would it have been as meaningful.

This Spectacular Moroccan Wedding at Villa Taj Marrakech Left Literally No Detail Untouched

February 4, 2019 | Junebug Weddings

Charlie and AJ’s Moroccan wedding at Villa Taj Marrakech was essentially a masterclass in maximalism! There were vases of every shape and size, Moroccan rugs covering the ground, fairy lights galore, embroidery hoops and macrame in every nook, and dried flowers mixed with pampas grass filling all the empty space. Oh, and we can’t forget about the pièce de résistance: a Fez hat on every place setting! This talented bride and her dream team of vendors made all our Moroccan wedding dreams come true, balancing the subtle art of over-the-top decor while still feeling classy and curated. We could go on and on about the spectacular intricacy of this wedding, but we’ll let these phenomenal photos from Tali Photography tell the whole story instead!

The Couple:

Charlie and AJ

The Wedding:

Villa Taj Marrakech, Marrakech, Morocco

We fell in love with Villa Taj Marrakech as soon as we saw it. The wedding space alone gave us all the feels, but picturing our nearest and dearest being able to stay at the venue made us so excited for all the pool time, rosé on the rooftop, and nights under the olive trees!

There were lots of little touches that enabled us to personalize the ceremony, from DIY decorations (courtesy of the bride), our friend Leo marrying us, and our personal vows (which made us both giggle lots)! Our friends were also in charge of the music and we had home-made fans featuring the day’s programme.

I am a details person and kept being told not to sweat the small things, the little bits that people won’t remember. But I have to say all those little personal touches made it extra magical for us, seeing all of our visions and planning come to life truly made it extra special. That, and not to get lost in the planning and forgetting why you are getting married in the first place!

In the end, we decided on everyone having a traditional Moroccan fez hat on their plate which was fun, great for photos but also a little keep safe for everyone! Adhering to Moroccan tradition under each hat was a small personalized bottle of rose water for guests to wash their hands before eating.

I actually didn’t have a style inspiration as such, I just found what I loved as I went! First, I decided I wanted something ridiculous and sassy on my head, and I thought about Frida Kahlo! So, I had a gold Stephanie Browne crown I wore later in the evening but in the day had an amazing dry floral crown created by the florist for the daytime, a slick of orange lipstick, and the fluted sleeves on my dress made me feel sassily fabulous!

I made embroidery hoops and trailing ribbon hoops in the lead up to the wedding, as well as a macrame for the aisle and spent months collecting dry flowers in Australia to bring for my wonderful florist. We also decided to print a vintage polaroid of every guest for our seating plan which placed on two Morrocan doors with a sign “find your face to find your place.” We carefully selected ridiculously funny photos to help break the ice for guests who hadn’t met before.

Aside from that moment of seeing each other’s face at the ceremony, we had a pinch ourselves moment partying under the Marrakech stars, twirling with happiness with all of our loved ones around, especially living so far away – it made us just feel like the luckiest pair!

This Intimate New Hampshire Wedding Proves That Ditching Tradition Makes Room for What’s Really Important

February 3, 2019 | Junebug Weddings

Rachael and Ryan took intimate wedding vibes to a whole new level in their New Hampshire wedding at home! With DIY projects galore and fabulous florals designed by One & Supp, this couple completely transformed their backyard space into a woodsy wedding dream that also had a cozy bohemian flair. Turkish rugs lined the ceremony aisle, a handmade macrame piece served as the backdrop for their vow exchange and, for their tented reception, greenery hoops and acrylic signage were the stars of the show. We’re absolutely in love with how this couple traded tradition for sentimentality on their special day, and we’re equally in love with how Sarah Morrill Photography captured it all. If DIY-focused, at-home weddings are your jam, Rachael and Ryan’s wedding will make you feel like you’ve hit the jackpot!

The Couple:

Rachael and Ryan

The Wedding:

Private Residence, Stratham, New Hampshire

The most important part of the planning process for us was making sure everything felt personal, and doing away with the traditions that didn’t suit us. There was no bridal party, reception speeches, or even a bouquet toss. Nixing these customs allowed us more time for conversation, pictures, and of course, thanks you’s!

The most memorable part of the day for us was being able to have all of our favorite people at our home to celebrate and have fun. Sharing the vows we wrote for one another, the delicious meal, and hours of dancing definitely were at the top of our lists, too.

Ryan and I lived in Boston together for three years before we decided to buy our first house in New Hampshire. The day of the move, we unpacked and chatted about getting married in our new backyard. We weren’t even engaged yet, but its towering oaks and intimate feel convinced us it was perfect. We wanted to throw a party that felt true to who we were as a couple and showcased our favorite things in the new home we were so proud of.

We asked one of my closest friends, Morgan, to perform the ceremony. She was my roommate at the time Ryan and I met, so it felt right to have her standing up there with us. We knew Morgan would take her job seriously, but when all was said and done, she blew us away with her thoughtful eloquence! The most stressful part of the day was delivering the vows we had written to each other. I actually considered scrapping the idea altogether, but I’m so happy we went through with it. Making lifetime promises in front of family and friends was unbelievably meaningful, and rumor has it there were more than a few misty-eyed guests looking on.

Our advice to couples planning their wedding would be to ask for help early and often. You’re either going to need to hire professionals or rely on the generosity of friends and family. The majority of our wedding prep happened just three months before the big day. Ryan and I worked as a team, splitting up the must-dos per our personal strengths. While he was organizing vendors, cutting tree branches, and fixing up the house, I was designing invitations, crafting decorations (hello, macrame ceremony arch), and fretting about vintage Turkish rugs arriving in time. Looking back, I still can’t believe we got it all done; it really came down to the help of our family and friends. There was no task too big or too small. From setting up chairs to shoveling mulch, everyone chipped in.

One of the things I was most looking forward to was having the opportunity to craft all the decor pieces for the wedding. I designed the wedding invitations and hand addressed the envelopes. All the event signage, was constructed out of plexiglass which I cut to size, wrote on with white paint pen, and was placed on either a wooden or copper stand. I’ve been wanting to work on a large scale macrame piece for awhile now, and the ceremony arch was the perfect opportunity, plus now it gets to live in our home with us forever. I also constructed the greenery hoops with the help of my mother to bring a focal point to the center of the tent, and help fill some of the empty space. They were made out of large quilting hoops and faux greenery, doing it that way allowed us to prepare them weeks in advance.
