Mid-Century Minimalist Baltimore Wedding at Mt. Washington Mill Dye House

July 19, 2019 | Junebug Weddings

After falling in love with the history and the architecture of Mt. Washington Mill Dye House in Maryland, Alexis and Mark knew that they had found the perfect backdrop for the industrial minimalist wedding they had always wanted! With the help of Eventi Florals & Events and the floral talents of Crimson & Clover Floral Design, the couple hung greenery and Edison bulbs from the rafters, set up raw wood tables and copper chairs, and added bright, colorful blooms for a look that was uniquely them. Alexis was a bride after our hearts, and not just because she styled her fun and flirty Hayley Paige gown with a magnolia headpiece and sparkly Jimmy Choos! She learned hand-lettering prior to the wedding and made each of the magnolia leaf place cards for their guests — how sweet is that?! We can hardly get over how captivating these images from With Love & Embers turned out and how the couple radiated excitement from beginning to end!

The Couple:

Alexis and Mark

The Wedding:

Mt. Washington Mill Dye House, Baltimore, Maryland

My wedding day fashion could be described as modern glam with a touch of stripes and a dash of glitter! I loved everything about my dress from the subtle white satin stripes, to the asymmetric hem and the darling open back. The details were unique and it felt like the perfect dress for me. I wore my hair down with a white half flower crown. My nails were ombre french with glitter (so fun!) and shoes were ombre light blue glitter pumps by Jimmy Choo. I also had the diamonds from both of my late grandmothers’ engagement rings made into earrings for the wedding which felt very special to have a part of them with me on my wedding day.

Mark and I originally wanted to have the wedding in DC where we met and still live, but couldn’t find a venue that we loved and was within our budget. We expanded our search to Baltimore and fell in love with The Mt. Washington Mill Dye House. The building was originally an old cotton mill built in the 1800s that was recently renovated and still has many of the original structural elements. The venue had so much potential with its tall ceilings, exposed beams, natural light, and exposed brick. We knew this was the space for us and looked no further!

The most memorable part of the day was probably our photo session with Jill and Ryan right after our ceremony. Mark and I both love to hike and are pretty adventurous so Jill and Ryan knew we would be up for anything including climbing over a tall fence into a dry river bed in my wedding dress and Jimmy Choos. It was nice to get away for a moment to enjoy our first moments adventuring as husband and wife and the photos were totally worth it!

When it comes to planning your wedding, sit down with your partner early on in the process, and have a conversation about what you do and don’t want to include in your wedding. Do you want a big wedding or a small wedding? Adult only or all ages? Religious, non-religious or hybrid? Destination or local? Ideal budget vs max budget? Then own those decisions and stand by them as a couple! Friends, family and even complete strangers may try to impose their own ideas of what your wedding should or shouldn’t be like. I’m here to remind you that this is your wedding, not theirs! It’s totally okay to skip any wedding traditions or wedding related events that don’t feel right to you. As long as both of you are happy with what you planned that’s all that matters.

I knew that I wanted hand-lettered greenery for my place cards but was trying to save money wherever I could. So a few months before the wedding, I bought a book and taught myself how to hand letter. It’s actually quite easy to learn and a great stress reliever! A few weeks before the wedding I ordered about 200 preserved magnolia leaves and began hand lettering guests’ names with gold leaf pens. I would only complete about 5-10 done per hour so you can imagine how long it took to complete 125 of them, but it was totally worth it! I was so proud of the end result and how it perfectly tied in with the overall decor. Our guests loved them so much, many of them took their leaves home with them!

We’re Starry-Eyed Over This Rustic Celestial Wedding on a Private Vermont Farm

July 18, 2019 | Junebug Weddings

If you think Madison and Ken’s celestial wedding is incredible, just wait until you read the story behind it! Their wedding day was set at a private family farm and was entirely inspired by the starry night they saw on their first trip to their farm while they were dating. To recreate that magical night, the couple set up a clear tent, hung dozens of star lanterns, and added celestial-themed details that took their guests on a wildly romantic journey. Petals Vermont then rounded out the overall rustic look with tons of greenery and red blooms. Even more captivating than the details, though, was the love and the gratitude Madison and Ken exuded throughout their entire day. Thanks to their fabulously talented photographer, Hannah of Ramblefree Photo Co., we felt every ounce of emotion these two poured into each other and into their guests — it was truly a sight to behold!

The Couple:

Madison and Ken

The Wedding:

Private Farm, Orwell, Vermont

From the very beginning, it was important to us that our wedding be a true representation of who we are as a couple. We wanted our guests to see hints of us in all elements of the day. It was also very important to us that our guests (almost all of whom traveled from New Jersey to be with us) had a spectacular time and felt loved and appreciated. Creating that feeling began with selecting our venue. We often visit Ken‘s aunt and uncle at their farm in Vermont (one of our favorite places to be) and we were so fortunate that they allowed us to host our wedding there.

The first time Ken took me to visit the farm, as we were arriving near Orwell in the middle of the night, he pulled the car to the side of the road and we laid down on the ground to look up at the stars. It was a special moment, and the vision of that night sky never left us. So, we wanted to encourage all of our guests to take a moment to look up and appreciate the same view. Our starry night theme grew from there — complete with a clear tent and star lanterns.

As we planned, we tried to make sure everything we included in the day felt true to us and what we love most–from the save-the-dates (camp-themed notebooks) and campfire (which represented our love of camping and the outdoors) to the dinner music (all from bands we had seen live over the years) to the lawn games (which represented the game nights we host for our friends) to our insistence that there be delicious, unfussy food (including the BIGGEST cheese board) for our guests to nosh on and good booze on tap to drink (mainstays at all parties we host as we love to cook).

We decided that we wanted to write our own vows early on in our planning process, but we still wanted to recite some of the same promises to one another. Together, we wrote a set of vows that we would both repeat to one another, then each of us wrote our own personal vows that we read to each other for the first time during the ceremony. Ken wrote about a night he surprised me by driving me out into middle-of-nowhere Pennsylvania in the middle of the night to watch a meteor shower. I wrote about one of the first conversations we ever had. Reading the vows in front of our loved ones felt so personal and powerful, and it helped tell the story of how we fell in love.

One piece of advice I read early on was to only choose things to include in your wedding that really speak to you, and I think we took that to heart. Nothing was included in our wedding “just because” and we spent a lot of time curating elements that best conveyed how we felt about the day and each other. It was hard work, but the end result was so rewarding. It was truly a day that we will never forget. Trust your gut and have fun planning, what made our planning experience so enjoyable was that we treated it as an opportunity to reflect on our journey.

Because our guests traveled from so far, it was important to us that they felt appreciated and cared for, so there were lots of special things to take home! Welcome boxes were given out at the hotels that included trail mix, local chocolate, and planispheres depicting the constellations, among other odds and ends. At the wedding, enameled camp mugs with s’mores fixings inside were given out, as well as serape blankets.

We spent a lot of time on DIY elements for the wedding! We packaged our save-the-dates and helped design our invitation suite. For the decor, we stained and finished the wood moons used for the seating chart and place cards, stained and finished the cornhole boards and moon backdrop my uncle built for us, and built our ceremony arch. Lastly, I embroidered the embroidery hoops with constellations to use as our table numbers, assembled our welcome boxes and the s’mores favors, and assembled and hung all the star lanterns. PHEW!

Dolce and Gabbana Served as the Inspiration for This Chic Lisbon Wedding in a Private Palace

If chic wedding style and a private palace venue — yes, you read that correctly — are on your list of wedding must-haves, get ready to fall deeply in love with Ksenia and Jeff’s romantic Lisbon wedding! MUZA Weddings Concept outdid themselves with this one, helping the couple combine their love of art, the cosmos, and the early Baroque style used in the D&G 2018 Fall/Winter Collection into a cohesive look that was as elegant as it was romantic. While the bride stunned in a sparkly gown and the groom looked dapper in a classic tux, their wedding party and guests chose attire to match the wedding color palette, which gave the entire day a formal (but not stuffy) look. Photographer Hugo Coelho‘s background in news media was a true asset in documenting this special day because, although the celebration was perfectly curated, the images felt totally organic.
