The Couple:

Megan & Alex

The Wedding:

Dubrovnik, Croatia

Since we asked our friends and family to travel across the world for our celebration, it was important for us for everyone to have an amazing time. In addition to the wedding itself, we planned a weekend full of unique experiences, including a welcome reception with custom cocktails (one called Shadow’s Side Tongue in honor of our dog son unable to attend), a Game of Thrones walking tour and a sunset boat ride on a traditional Karaka ship.

We were very fortunate to have the opportunity to get married in beautiful Dubrovnik, Croatia, a magical, charming and romantic place. Our overall vision for the style of our wedding was to complement the natural beauty of Dubrovnik to enhance the fairytale-like aspects of the city. Our main goal was to create a memorable, elegant experience for the occasion and we were beyond pleased with how everything turned out.

we got married at Sponza Palace, a venue that naturally takes your breath away. For decor, we used a long white runner, white chiavari chairs, long white drapes and touches of flower arrangements that created an ethereal atmosphere. For the reception, we again had the privilege to host our guests at the gorgeous Villa Sheherezade, another venue with a lot of natural beauty and character. We carried over the overall style from the ceremony, with gold trimmed cutlery, small but lavish centerpieces, amber and white lights on the palm trees and lots of candles.

At the end of the ceremony, after exchanging vows and rings, the Old Town bell tower chimed in the background during our first “official” married kiss. The moment was unreal – standing in the breathtaking open air Sponza Palace on a beautiful, sunny day, surrounded by our closest friends and family, and then hearing the chimes as if on cue. It was magical.

Planning a destination wedding adds another layer of complexity to the process and the biggest piece of advice we have for this is to hire an amazing local wedding planner. Partnering with someone that speaks the local language, has strong local relationships and can advise you on vendors, venues, etc., made all the difference for us. We now truly appreciate the art of wedding planning after working with a pro.

DT Studio felt like family. We were so comfortable around them. We adore our photos and wedding video thanks to the talented duo we had the chance to work with. Dijana and Tom were so fantastic, we could not recommend them highly enough.

This Private Algarve Wedding Will Give You Floral Installation Envy

June 22, 2020 | Junebug Weddings

Arabella and Stephen’s private Algarve wedding was a beautiful celebration of love and nature, with some of the most stunning floral installations we’ve ever seen! Fun fact: The bride and groom each had a lucky flower, the bride’s being a daisy and the groom’s a clover, so planning team La Puta Suegra incorporated those blooms throughout the decor. We’re also blown away by this bride’s style! She totally rocked her custom botanical-inspired gown and extravagant headpiece, all while looking flawless in DIY hair and makeup. If you swoon over bright, happy wedding days, you’re going to fall in love with every photo Pipi Hormaechea captured of Arabella and Stephen’s day!

The Wedding:

Vila Nova de Cacela, Algarve, Portugal

Arabella knew she wanted something very special to wear at her wedding. She wanted to wear something related to nature and decided to wear a flowered dress under the main dress.

The bride and groom are architects and they wanted a location in Europe that was related to architecture and art. We found a very special architecturally stunning house in Portugal, Algarve, and whose neighbor was Picasso. A paradise and the perfect spot to hold their wedding.

The ceremony was inspired by Ophelia from Hamlet. The forest, lamps, vintage furniture, lots of candles, and colored flowers all were carefully chosen to fit the theme of the day.

SHOP ECO-FRIENDLY CONFETTI: Plantables and Paper Dissolving Heart Confetti ($15.00); Confetti Bistro Gold Glitter Confetti ($7.99); Shower and Co Gifts White Confetti Cannons ($25.00+); HIBIMI Biodegradable Confetti Petal Cones ($19.48)

The architecture was very important for the bride and groom. We built an infinity table for all the guests to sit for the dinner, which was more than 50 meters long. Above the table, we created a layer structure with a mirror on the ceiling where everything was reflected.

Chic All-White Bali Wedding at Villa Vedas

June 21, 2020 | Junebug Weddings

Laura and Addison’s all-white Bali wedding at Villa Vedas was something out of a chic, fashion-forward dream! This couple didn’t hold back when it came to unique surprises for each other and their guests, and Hitch’d Weddings & Events Bali helped make sure they were all planned perfectly. We’re obsessed with the cafe racer motorbike they rode away on after their “I do’s,” the gelato cart, Indonesian dancers, and so much more. If you love cool, casual wedding attire, lively receptions, and minimalistic decor, you’re going to be inspired by every photo Diktat Photography captured of Laura and Addison’s day!

The Couple:

Laura & Addison

The Wedding:

Villa Vedas, Bali, Indonesia

I am a bridal designer, so I designed and made my own wedding dress, after party dress, bridesmaids looks, and flower girl dress.

We wanted to get married on the beach, in a private villa where both our families could stay together. The Villa we found was the perfect mix of modern architecture and balinese design. The entrance into the villa was stunning, there was a huge pool that went from the sand and up into the house, and as you walked into the villa you could see the ocean from the front door. We had seen some amazing rice paddy wedding shots, so had that on the wishlist too. We had to book it from photos and our wedding planners assurance, so it was a little nerve wracking, but it seemed to tick all our boxes and we couldn’t have been happier with it!

We though it would be cool to incorporate the balinese culture where we could throughout the day. I loved the idea of getting married on the sand, with only the ocean (and in the end a huge circle of palms) as our backdrop! We had a balinese celebrant officiate who had an amazing energy and a Balinese priest did a water blessing, which was so special. The vibe was sentimental and fun. The first half was full of loving words and a lot of tears and the second half was a wild party, and that really does speak of our relationship!

Addison grew up around motorbikes, his dad owning a Harley. So I surprised him with a Cafe racer style bike after the ceremony, he went to a quick ride up the street, our photographer got some amazing riding pics of the two of us, and we even decided to ride into the reception on it too! It was a fun thing to do for him, not even knowing he had the planned the surprise song for me!

I would highly recommend getting a wedding planner if you have the budget for it. I’m not sure how we would have facilitated an overseas wedding without our amazing planner Kristen from Hitch’d Bali. She was a breeze to work with, fun and super organised. On our wedding day we got to spend time with our family and friends and didn’t have to worry. The only other thing would be to not get fixated on the little things, if something small doesn’t go to plan – don’t let it ruin your day.

After Addison had finished his speech, he began singing “I’ve had the time of my life” from Dirty Dancing. At first I didn’t know what was happening, then one by one different friends and family began jumping up with a microphone and singing a line flash mob style, It felt like we were in a movie! It was so sweet and special, we ended up dancing around the tables, and the whole wedding party joined in at the end. It still makes me tear up thinking about it! Addison isn’t a singer, although we love karaoke – but his sister used to be a cabaret singer so she helped put it together and everyone was in on it but me. A few friends got iPhone videos, and Addison cut them together and I must have watched the video 100 times!
