Orangette

July 20, 2007 | editorial team

Have you ever had the experience of reading someone’s writing, and loving it so much you feel like you know them, are cosmically connected to them and that they are your new best friend, they just don’t know it yet?  Well my new best friend is Molly, author of the charming, thoughtful and perfectly quirky food blog Orangette. She writes about food, cooking and recipes with such affection, and blends her everyday experiences and emotions into the mix. What makes this blog all the more heart warming and fun for Junebug readers is that Molly is getting married to a lovely man named Brandon who she actually met through her blog, so for the last couple of years her relationship and wedding plans have figured prominently in her writing. Read the post where Molly introduces Brandon to her readers, the one where she describes all the things she loves about him, the one about how they came to be engaged (without crying, I dare you!) and the most recent one about the cakes and pickled carrots Molly and Brandon are joyously making for the wedding. This blog is not only a fantastic food resource and inspiration, but it’s a love story, and who doesn’t love that?

The Palette Generator, My Favorite New Toy!

July 18, 2007 | editorial team

Reading around yesterday I came across this fantastic toy, I mean tool, from Big Huge Labs called the Palette Generator. (Thanks Brooklyn Bride and The Paper Pony!) You can upload any image from your computer and it will instantly “create a harmonious color palette” for you. What a great way to come up with a wedding color scheme!  Try it out, and I guarantee you’ll be hooked, I sure was. Don’t ask me what in the world I’m going to do with the 20 or so palettes I made!

Creative Save the Dates

July 16, 2007 | editorial team

After last week’s post about Kelly’s creative save-the-date, I received these fantastic responses from two Junebug readers and just had to share!Andrea and Trevor made their save the date postcard using a photo they took jumping off his Grandma’s dock at Hood Canal. “We took the photo at our engagement party with all our friends around us and it was a blast … even though I usually don’t like jumping in the water it was worth it!!” How fun! They had their friend and graphic designer Amanda create the postcards and they’ve received terrific responses from their guests.

Kate and Drew are trivia buffs and had the creative idea to incorporate their favorite pastime into their save-the-dates. Using the game’s classic categories they had fun coming up with all the “Wedding Pursuit” questions together, the all important one being the wild card question at the end. Q: “What date should you mark on your calendar for the wedding of Kate and Drew?” A: “Saturday, October Twenty Fifth, Two Thousand and Eight!” They made their own cards using Microsoft Publisher, and are thinking of extending the concept to their wedding reception, including a card at each place setting with trivia questions about the guests sitting at that table. What a fun way to carry their theme through and give a great ice-breaker to guests just meeting for the first time!
