Quirky and Fun NYC Elopement

January 22, 2015 | Junebug Weddings

Choosing your wedding photographer on Reddit may be an alternative avenue, but Jem and Alex got lucky when Boston photographer Alex Xu, of Xu Liu Photography, responded to their call. The quirky couple planned a casual NYC elopement in Central Park, complete with sparkly sneakers and victory rolls. We love their impulsive attitude towards wedding planning, and their easy-going spirit definitely paid off when it started to drizzle during the portrait session. The resulting images are über romantic and totally fun.

The Couple:

Jem and Alex

The Wedding:

Central Park, New York, New York

The Inspiration:

Jem and Alex are a bit quirky which is reflected in their big day. The vintage-themed wedding was done on a budget. The dress was from a friend’s boutique, the suit mismatched pieces from vintage stores. Flowers were picked up from a Williamsburg grocery store and put together in the morning by Jem

The veil was hand stitched one late night using a vintage pearl necklace, pheasant feathers and French netting. Jem frantically went from tomboy to make up and hair expert in the months leading up to the big day, doing hers and her good friend Sarah’s. Sarah rocked a vintage dress featuring her favourite skulls, with a victory roll hairstyle, going for a 50s vibe.

The Moments:

Jem wrote the ceremony, which left her struggling a bit to come up with things to say in the vows as she’d already covered most of it! Thankfully, Alex is a funny guy, so when he promised to love and cherish her, as well as sing silly songs about her (their favourite past time) forever, he made everyone laugh.

The Couple Recommends:

Alex Xu was fantastic. He answered my plea for a photographer on Reddit and came all the way from Boston to do the photos. Everyone has said how wonderful they are. I genuinely don’t think they could have come out any better. It looks like the happy ending to an awesome indie film.

The Wedding Team:

Photography – Xu Liu Photography
Officiant – Beth K Lamont
Wedding Dress – Corset and Dresses
Rings – Shiruba Tree

Sentimental Farm Wedding in New York

January 22, 2015 | Junebug Weddings

Upstate-New-York-Farm-Wedding-Lev-Kuperman-21

It’s amazing how drastically different weddings in Upstate New York are from the ones in the city. Kimberly and Ian’s farm wedding is a whimsical escape from the bustle of NYC, utilizing rustic elements and soft pink details. Phootgrapher Lev Kuperman did an exceptional job capturing the lightness of the mood and the absolute bliss Kimberly and Ian shared. We especially love the sentimental ceremony with best friends as officiants and pretty pink petals hanging all around.

The Couple:

Kimberly and Ian

The Wedding:

Stone Tavern Farm, Roxbury, New York

The Inspiration:

Our wedding was on a horse farm, so we tried to keep everything feeling rustic and effortless–We had a square dance on Friday night for the rehearsal dinner, which was raucous and could have been a wedding on its own. We wanted the reception to feel like a huge dance party that would never end. It worked! We danced past 3 AM and then slept in a camping tent next to the barn with a few of our friends who had also set up tents nearby.

The Moments:

Kim: My favorite moment was walking into the barn (reception area) and seeing all my loved ones, all in the same place. That’s something that will probably never happen again, and I felt so lucky — my life felt so full at that moment.

Ian: Sorry, it is too hard to pick one. During the ceremony, we had a moment of silence for loved ones who had passed away. My father died 2 years ago in a tragic accident, and as I thought of him, a flock of geese flew overhead in beautiful formation; that was really cool and beautiful. I loved it when Kim & I had a private moment after the ceremony to catch our breath and connect–it was special to have that time alone amidst all the hustle. Finally, I loved it when, at 2 in the morning, while my friend Matt was DJing and we had turned off most of the lights in the barn, I looked around and saw 100 or so people still up and dancing and hundreds of glowsticks flying through the air. I knew at that moment that we had thrown a great party.

The Couple Recommends:

We loved Lev Kuperman, he is an amazing photographer who captured the day wonderfully; we loved our caterer–Oriole9–they were so accommodating and let us personalize our menu exactly how we wanted it–9 different appetizers, 3 different homemade ice creams, a midnight snack, etc. They said yes to everything; The Heathens are also the best band, but they don’t often do weddings. They were incredible!

The Wedding Team:

Photography – Lev Kuperman
Event Planning – Lydia Castiglia
Venue – Stone Tavern Farm
Floral Design – Catskill Flower Shop
Catering – Oriole9
Live Music – The Heathens
Videography – Fredrick Soo
Invitations – Lion in the Sun

A big thanks to Lev Kuperman for sharing Kimberly and Ian’s special day with Junebug. For more farm wedding inspiration, be sure to check out Carrie and Ronnie’s country wedding in Kentucky.

Romantic Amalfi Coast Wedding Inspiration

January 21, 2015 | Junebug Weddings

Romantic-Italian-Styled-Shoot-Anouschka-Rokebrand-15

Is there anything more romantic than an Amalfi Coast wedding? Pulling inspiration from one of the most romantic countries in the world, this styled shoot from the Moda e Arte workshop photographed by Anouschka Rokebrand Photography is both beautiful and alluring. The deep red hues of the bridal bouquet and lip color in contrast with the flowing ivory gown and cool gray brick is so perfectly Italy.

Here’s what Anouschka had to say about capturing the Amalfi Coast wedding inspiration:

In October I had the huge pleasure of attending the Moda e Arte workshop on the Amalfi Coast in Italy with great talents KT Merry, Sandra Aberg and Joy Proctor. We did a few beautiful shoots, one of which being this styled bridal shoot photographed at old church ruins. It was styled to perfection by Joy Proctor. Our model Karoline was a joy to work with and she wore a stunning Delphine Manivet gown which flowed gorgeously in the wind. The invitations featured beautiful calligraphy by Julie Song. With stunning views of the Amalfi Coast this location was a dream to be shooting at!
