Marsala Wedding Inspiration at the Barrister Winery

February 18, 2015 | Junebug Weddings

In case you haven’t heard, 2015 is all about Marsala, a color you can find everywhere from New York Fashion Week to interior design inspiration. When we saw this Marsala wedding styled shoot from Valorie Darling Photography, we knew it would be the perfect source of inspiration for fashion-forward couples tying the knot in 2015. The Barrister Winery was the perfect Pacific Northwest venue for the shoot, with its dark wood elements and, of course, the wine! Event planner and designer Andrea Leslie‘s vision was carried out in every detail, from invitations to tablescape to cakes.

Here’s what the experts behind the shoot had to say about their inspiration:

We were inspired by the beauty of the Pacific Northwest in the winter. We included many textures in the florals, paper products, linens, attire and venue that were meant to represent the Evergreen State: the mountains (in the calligraphy font), raw nature elements (wood paneling, escort card branch and lush greenery), as well as wine (Washington state is the new Napa! So having the setting be in a winery was fitting).

For the tablescape, our theme was prevalent with the bold textured metal backdrop. It set the stage for the beautiful pops of metallics in the candles, silverware (or should I say “gold ware”) and sprinkled, rimmed chargers. The centerpiece was organic and free flowing down the table to capture the feeling of a woodsy feast. The place settings were a combination of vintage, cut-crystal and ruby glassware to give hints of the rich color palate as well as that metallic pop with the gold-leafed menus.

As for the cake, we loved the look of naked cakes because of the simplicity and rawness of the cake. The technique used to frost the inner layers creates somewhat of a dusted snow look, which played into our winter vibe. We were spoiled with more than one cake and Batch Bakeshop also created a painted cake with images of grapes and vines for the winery venue. The smooth texture and beautiful paint on the middle cake was perfectly complimented with the naked cakes that had accents of pomegranate berries and sage leaves.

Romantic Elopement in Italy

February 18, 2015 | Junebug Weddings

Romantic-Elopement-Florence-Italy-Matt-Lien (19 of 39)

For couples who aren’t interested in the excess that comes along with wedding planning, eloping is a perfect solution. Emily and Marcus chose a destination elopement in Italy for their special day, focusing on keeping the style classic and romantic, and allowing the beauty of Florence and their love to take center stage. The Chicago couple invited the brilliant Matt Lien of Minneapolis along on their adventure to capture the sweet and intimate moments as they exchanged vows and enjoyed a sunset together for the first time as husband and wife.

The Couple:

Emily and Marcus

The Wedding:

Florence, Italy

The Inspiration:

We started planning a big wedding in Minneapolis immediately following our engagement, but became overwhelmed with the details. We felt that we were losing our focus on the point of it all—our commitment to each other. This ended up driving our sort of minimalistic approach.

We stuck to the classics, since our plan to elope was so non-traditional. The contrast just felt right, especially with one of the most beautiful and romantic cities as a backdrop. We only included the things that we thought were important. I chose a romantic lace dress. Marcus made my bouquet himself. We traded in a traditional wedding cake for a gelato pit stop.

The Moments:

The vows. They were so emotional, private, and intimate. We had no officiant, and read our own vows to each other. There was so much laughter and crying, and really living in a moment that we would remember forever. We know that we wouldn’t have been able to experience such intimacy any other way.

The Couple Recommends:

Matt Lien was a perfect fit for us, and played so many more roles than just photographer. We’re truly indebted to him for the entire experience!

The Wedding Team:

Venue – Hotel Villa la Vedetta
Hair Styling – Adrienne Aereboe

Blue and Peach Wedding in Stockholm

February 17, 2015 | Junebug Weddings

Blue-Coral-Swedish-Wedding-Smallpigart (22 of 33)

Charlotte and Anders’ Swedish wedding is an extra special treat. After one of their wedding images by Smallpigart Photography was chosen in our 2014 Best of the Best Wedding Photography collection, we knew we had to see the rest of the wedding. The blue and peach wedding is even more gorgeous than we could have imagined, with subtle pops of color, elegant bridal style, and incredible portrait session by Smallpigart Photography, and kitschy details that make the reception so unique and personal.

The Couple:

Charlotte and Anders

The Wedding:

Högbergs Gård, Stockholm, Sweden

The Inspiration:

We wanted the wedding to have a summerish feeling with an elegant touch. Our colors were peach and royal blue, and we wanted the colors to be subtle, yet visible. It was important for us the the colors were to be seen in everything, from the bridesmaids dresses, to the flowers, wedding cake, and all the decor.
