DIY Golf Course Wedding in Ontario

We love a venue that lends itself to personalized décor by the bride and groom on their big day. Carly and Dan’s golf course wedding was looking a little sparse before Carly took on the project of crafting over 100 coral pompoms to hang around their ceremony and above their reception. The soft peach decorations perfectly matched the bridesmaids’ dresses, and looked lovely with the bride’s style for her wedding day. Blair Gable Photography masterfully captured the carefully arranged details, as well as the sweetest moments shared between the newlyweds as they said I Do.

The Couple:

Carly and Dan

The Wedding:

Crimson Ridge Golf Course, Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario

The Inspiration:

We decided to get married in my hometown, Sault Ste. Marie, even though we live in Toronto. A big reason was that “the Sault,” as locals know it, has a much slower pace and has a lot of natural beauty. We wanted to take advantage of that in a big way, so we chose to get married outside on a golf course on the edge of town. That beautiful outdoor setting really drove much of the inspiration for the rest of the day. We wanted the setting to speak for itself, so we tried to keep things relatively simple — white tablecloths, no sky-high centerpieces and a lot of greenery.

It seemed like the tent was missing something until I came up with the idea to dress it up with hundreds of peach coloured pom poms, which were draped all around the room. I had to make nearly 500 peach pom poms to ensure we had enough! There were a few moments where I wanted to kick myself for embarking on such a massive project — the suitcase I took when I traveled from Toronto to the Sault was filled ENTIRELY with pompoms — but it was worth it!

The Moments:

Having our wedding in Sault Ste. Marie meant that a lot of our friends and family traveled to be with us for the whole weekend. So we were extremely lucky because our wedding day really turned into an entire four-day weekend of memories and fun. We rented a hospitality suite in the host hotel and stocked it with food and drinks. It became the hub of activity over the weekend and meant that a lot of the guests who started out as strangers were friends by the time the wedding day rolled around. That made the day so much more special and memorable for our guests too.

During our wedding reception dinner, when the room was buzzing with chatter and everyone was enjoying food and wine, Dan and I couldn’t help but look around and be struck by how many of our loved ones were there, and how special it was to have all of those people in one place to celebrate and make such great memories. My mom passed away a few years ago and her absence loomed large at the wedding. So we do not take for granted how special it was to have the love and support from everyone under the tent that night.

The Couple Recommends:

It is really hard to single anyone out, since pretty much everyone we worked with exceeded our expectations. But Annelise and Sarah, the venue coordinator and the decor/day-of coordinator did so much to make sure every detail was taken care of so that we had nothing to worry about and could truly enjoy ourselves on our wedding day.

And Blair, our photographer, captured the wedding day better than anyone else could have. I must have looked up dozens of wedding photographers, but when I saw his work, I was really impressed. Not only did he deliver really amazing photos, but he also worked around a fairly rigid and tight post-ceremony schedule and had all of our edited photos back to us the week we returned from our honeymoon.

From Blogger to Bride – A Junebug Proposal Story!

February 18, 2015 | Junebug Weddings

Big news Junebug fans… I’m engaged! Over the holidays, my boyfriend of 3 years (Phil) got down on one knee and asked if I would spend the rest of my life with him. I shook, I cried, I smiled, and then I said “YES.” On October 3rd, 2015 we will be saying “I Do” and beginning a new and exciting adventure together. Inevitably, I will be sharing every detail of the wedding planning process over the next 9 months in a new series called “From Blogger to Bride.” If ever there was a moment to say “so much to do, so little time,” now seems pretty appropriate!

Edit

Here’s me talking about the proposal! Along with blogging, you will see much more of me on our Vimeo and Youtube channels. Check them out!

Here are a few photos we snapped the other day (thanks to our friend Briley Noel). Of course, I am planning an even bigger engagement session with one of my favorites, Studio Uma, which I will share in March!

I will be sharing everything with you over the next 9 months. The happiness, the stress, and the many lessons to be learned. We will also be launching some new bridal tools, interviewing awesome people, and doing a few other fun things along the way! I want (and need) all the help and advice in the world, so I would really appreciate it if fellow brides-to-be, professionals, and newlyweds would chime in! I want this series to be as interactive as possible.

At the end of “From Blogger to Bride,” I hope to share with you a wedding that was planned by the entire Junebug community. Not a perfect wedding, but a wedding that brings together beautiful moments, gorgeous details, and the incredibly passionate people that make it all happen. I’m so excited to plan this wedding with you all and to let you in on an intimate, personal journey of mine. Stay tuned for my next post, which will discuss how to get inspired for your wedding!

xoxoCarrie

Pink and Purple Wedding in Pennsylvania

February 18, 2015 | Junebug Weddings

Pink-Purple-Wedding-Pennsylvania-Alison-Conklin (16 of 29)

Pennsylvania is the perfect setting for a traditional wedding with a twist. Kathryn and Rob’s pink and purple wedding began with a traditional church ceremony, before guests headed over to The Glasbern Inn for a rustic reception filled with dancing and cupcakes. The newlyweds spent their first moments together walking in the beautiful autumn leaves as the sun settled into the most breathtaking golden hour, where Alison Conklin Photography captured images the couple will cherish forever.

The Couple:

Kathryn and Rob

The Wedding:

The Glasbern Inn, Fogelsville, Pennsylvania

The Inspiration:

Rob and I love the rustic style that our venue offered. We wanted to keep our decor simple but elegant. We used wooden crates, wheat grass bouquets, and vintage books for our cocktail hour room decor, and kept the reception room simple with white-washed wooden boxes for the centerpieces that held garden roses, hydrangeas, seeded eucalyptus, and wheat grasses in them. We had mini blackboards as table numbers, and printed out our own “Thank You’s” to place at each table setting. Our attire was reflective of our personalities. We stayed true to who we are. I had a vintage-looking lace gown that was comfortable but still looked elegant. Rob wore a dark grey suit with a classic white shirt and skinny black tie. Both of us wanted to feel comfortable and feel ourselves on our wedding day and we definitely feel we achieved that.

The Moments:

Kathryn: My favorite moment of the wedding was the ceremony. It was very special to me because we were married at the Church I grew up going to and by the Monsignor I grew up with serving Sunday Mass. Having said my vows to Rob in such a sacred place is irreplaceable and something I will always cherish.

Rob: My favorite moment was seeing Kathryn walk down the aisle. She looked more beautiful than I ever imagined.

The Couple Recommends:

Without a doubt, Alison and Geoff Conklin were the highlight of our day. Not only were we left with the most amazing and beautiful pictures from our day, but we couldn’t have felt more at ease while getting ready in the morning and all throughout the day. Alison and Geoff are unmatched in the wedding field and the main reason, aside from their incredible talent, is that they are relatable, down-to-earth, and incredibly warm people! We are so blessed to have had them there to share our wedding day with!
