Mint Green Wedding at the Colton House

August 10, 2015 | Junebug Weddings

Gem and Rob’s Colton House wedding was decorated with a mint green motif that made a lovely pairing against the blooming cherry blossoms around the venue grounds. In addition to the delicate mint shade, the couple honored their love of travel with maps and wanderlust-inspired details. The wedding took place on a chilly day in Scotland, and photographer tub of jelly captured the most romantic portraits of the newlyweds bundled up in a blanket and enjoying their first moments alone together before heading into their reception party.

The Couple:

Gem and Rob

The Wedding:

Colton House, Scotland

The Inspiration:

We found many of our ideas from the natural features around beautiful Colton House. We have travelled all over the world together and therefore there was a large element of travel involved in the decor. There was also a huge inspiration from the 1st of May which is lover’s day in Prague where the lovers traditionally kiss under the cherry tree blossom – this reflected the place where we met. My favourite colour is mint green so there was a lot of mint green EVERYWHERE!

The Moments:

Walking down the aisle singing Ho Hey with everyone and seeing each other and knowing that you are surrounded by the most important people in the world who have come from far and wide to see your special moment. Almost every single person there had contributed to the wedding whether it was making decor, the cakes, lifting hay bails, sorting electrics, arranging flowers, painting signs or even marrying us! It felt like a day everybody had helped make and shape which made it incredibly personal.

The Couple Recommends:

All of the professionals were incredible. Arc Marquee and Stewart’s Drinks come highly recommended for people looking to plan their own wedding. They are incredibly experienced and knew exactly what we wanted from our first vision and their execution was impeccable. Without them this could have turned into a logistical nightmare. The flower creations were also beyond this world. Ros is an artist in her own right and made incredible flower creations from our cherry tree arch, to flowers in tins on logs and beautiful flower globe flower arrangements.

Bohemian Gothic Wedding at Balmule House

August 9, 2015 | Junebug Weddings

Bohemian-Gothic-Wedding-at-Balmule-House (14 of 35)

After a sunrise proposal on top of the Edinburgh Castle, Graham and Kirsty-Marie decided no other place would be just as special for their big day. Their gorgeous ceremony at the castle was filled with dark, richly colored florals, stone walls, and traditional Scottish wedding attire. Their gothic styled, unique reception at the Balmule House soon followed the ceremony as friends and family joined in celebrating the happy couple. Coral, shells, ornate lanterns, taxidermy, feathers, bird skulls, and handmade birds nests were just a few of the eclectic pieces of décor making up the centerpieces of each God or Goddess named table. Talented photographer Eric Rene Penoy captured one-of-a-kind moments at this uniquely gorgeous wedding.

The Couple:

Graham and Kirsty-Marie

The Wedding:

Balmule House, Dunfermline, Scotland

The Inspiration:

We didn’t want to pick a ‘theme’ for the wedding, apart from wanting to somehow incorporate the story of how we met and step away from all the wedding rules and create a day that was a bit more unexpected. We’re both into dramatic and masculine styles and as an interior designer, I love to experiment. We opted for a more eclectic vibe, incorporating gothic, bohemian styles with English and Scottish influences. The flowers were wild and dramatic and there were real bird wings in my bridal bouquet. The tables were ethereal, styled with floral prints and unusual objects such as ornate lanterns, bird skulls, coral, shells, taxidermy, feathers and stone busts with handmade birds nests resting on their heads. We hung feathers around the dining room, made a surreal table plan with hand made dreamcatchers and the tables were named after Gods and Goddesses related to our shared Earth star sign, Taurus. We had ginger sailors on arrival and even managed to get our special ingredients into our ‘supper club’ menu too with a spiced rum granita, lime jelly and ginger sorbet pre desert. With us selling our house just before the wedding and emigrating to Australia after the wedding, we did most of the wedding planning and styling very last minute, including my dress, lace boots and statement bird claw earrings which I only found 1-2 weeks before the day and Graham running out on the morning of the wedding to buy a tie!

The Moments:

Everything about the day was absolutely perfect. We said our own vows in the oldest Chapel in Scotland, St. Margaret’s, on top of Edinburgh Castle, where we got engaged. The chapel is beautiful and there is so much history and love within the original stone its built with. Our Reverend was amazing and we had such an incredible and emotional ceremony, it was just so special and it was our favourite moment of the day. Afterwards, we were piped down the Royal Mile, we were so happy and in love and it felt like we were famous, it was so much fun!

The Couple Recommends:

Russell Up – really unique menus, local in season ingredients, personal service, incredible food.
Eric Rene Penoy – insanely talented photographer, goes above and beyond and just fantastic – we love our photos!
Balmule House – stunning venue and grounds.

Late Summer Wedding in California

August 9, 2015 | Junebug Weddings

Late-Summer-Wedding-in-California (23 of 29)

There’s something about a late summer wedding that brings a sense of relaxation, excitement and beauty. The days feel calm and the nights look romantic — the perfect setting for a backyard wedding. Scott and Nina gathered close friends and family to celebrate their wedding in true summer style. Mix-matched antique glass jars, rustic touches, and food trucks dressed the couple’s friend’s house in Atherton, California. Lovely photographer Rachelle Derouin didn’t miss a moment capturing touching moments of the couple on their big day!

The Couple:

Scott and Nina

The Wedding:

Private Residence, Atherton, California

The Inspiration:

Scott and I had heard how overwhelming planning a wedding could be, so we decided to choose four words that we could focus on and come back to if we ever got lost in the chaos of the details, big or small. Our words were Community, Faith, “This is Us,” and Fun. Throughout the process, these words refocused our attention, grounded us, and reminded us what this big event was really all about. Since Scott works at our church, and I have a large community of work friends, we had a big ceremony there. Later in the evening, we had a smaller, more intimate dinner with some close friends and immediate relatives. In an effort to keep things simple and local, the reception was held in a friend’s backyard, and for dinner we had some delicious eats cooked up by our three favorite food trucks. The outdoor space provided such natural beauty, that I didn’t want to have any extravagant décor taking away from it. I thought harvest tables, mix-matched antique glass jars and vessels, and rustic touches here and there would be perfect complements to the beautiful, green surroundings. Our amazing wedding coordinator and miracle worker added her creative eye and special touches to really tie it all together. When we walked into the space, we were completely blown away by the magic and beauty of it all.

The Moments:

My favorite part of the day was between our ceremony and dinner reception. We drove from the church to the reception in an original 1954 Mercedes SL, with the windows down and the engine roaring, and soaked in everything that had just happened. We were married!! It was such a special moment because we were able to spend a few minutes together, just the two of us, in the midst of a wonderfully crazy and amazing day.

The Couple Recommends:

Jennifer and Carlos were particularly stellar! They made an extra effort to help wherever they could, were professional, and so kind.

Ceremony Venue – Menlo Park Presbyterian Church
Reception Venue – Private Residence
Floral Design – Twig and Petals
