This Blue Ridge Parkway engagement shoot is the definition of adventurous chic! Amanda and Michael knew they wanted an epic outdoorsy engagement session, so they contacted Cody & Allison Photography to capture their multiple-day trek through North Carolina’s most beautiful mountainous areas. Amanda’s billowing dresses were effortlessly gorgeous and perfectly complemented the natural, loving connection these two share with each other!
It doesn’t get much more tropically charming than this Hawaii-meets-New England wedding! Kelley honored her New England roots by including nautical details like sea glass and classic accents, and Ekahi let his Hawaiian origins speak for themselves at Olowalu Plantation House. I went simple and let my dress speak for itself. I couldn’t decide on a form-fitting or full-skirt so I decided to have both – I wore a tight dress underneath and then had a tulle skirt I wore over the dress for the ceremony. It was awesome. I wore simple jewelry – pearly earrings and a bracelet because I didn’t want to take away from my dress.
My husband is from Hawaii so he embodies the Island style and my family is from New England so my style is more nautical/beachy, so we aimed to blend the two. Pulling in all the amazing flowers, fruits, and foods Hawaii has to offer, while bringing in the preppy nautical East Coast style, we found the perfect representation of us.
We wanted everyone to have a wonderful time and to truly enjoy themselves — nothing too up tight, no strict agendas, just really great food, people, music and tons of love.
One of the best things about Hawaii is the amazing weather and the gorgeous ocean, so we wanted our guests to enjoy that during the wedding. When we found the plantation house, we knew it was the place we’d say “I do.”
To personalize our ceremony, we had 5 couples come up and provide us with marriage advice and it was amazing to hear what they said and we took every word to heart…things like “be sure to always put your stuff on the left because SHE is always right!”
We chose Blush and Seaglass Blue as our wedding colors because we wanted neutral colors that wouldn’t overpower the natural beauty of the property already.
During the reception (right after speeches and a surprise hula), I looked over at my husband and said, “could this day have been any more perfect?” and he just shook his head and was completely speechless. It really was perfect and we took a moment to realize that and take it all in.
Just make sure to enjoy yourself, your company and the amazing day you’ve been planning. If the dessert isn’t displayed exactly as you’d imagined or you forgot to throw the bouquet, who cares — focus on the bigger picture.
We think Paige and Allen are one of the most darling examples of “opposites attract!” Paige, a self-proclaimed hippie, and Allen, a US Marine, tied the knot at Pear Tree Estate in Illinois and incorporated ways to honor both of their perfectly harmonious personalities. A romantic color palette of crisp whites, natural greens, and delicate pinks are found throughout the couple’s wedding décor, and DIY projects keep their style unique and fresh! Photographer Pam Cooley captured every moment of the couple’s beautiful day, including a private vow session and an incredibly regal Marine-style recessional!
The most important thing for us was remembering what the whole planning process was all about. Despite all the details and stress, I was getting ready to marry the love of my life and if you can try to keep that in mind with every decision, not only will you feel better but it will remain an extremely fun process.
I wanted boho chic elegance. I had my ivory beaded lace topper made custom from Europe and it was what made my dress my own. My hair and makeup was extremely natural, I didn’t want to be made up into something I wasn’t everyday. My sister wore a light grey blue one shoulder chiffon gown with gold arm bangles.
We wanted to be as natural and ourselves as possible: Allen “the Marine” and Paige “the hippie.”
Hard to pick only one favorite photograph. I love the private vow photos because I feel like I can relive it over and over again!
Pear Tree Estate was such a beautiful palette for us to create exactly what we envisioned, it gave us the option to create our own look. We were also surrounded by the Illinois prairie land views.
Pam was the dream photographer. She was absolutely wonderful on the day of. She has such a beautiful soul and has an eye for beauty and style. I wouldn’t have wanted anyone else to capture our day!
