Glamorous Upstate New York Barn Wedding at Handsome Hollow

January 16, 2017 | Junebug Weddings

Kelly and David’s Handsome Hollow wedding elegantly combined Gatsby-inspired glam with modern rustic venue vibes! The couple loved their venue from the start (they booked the venue two years before it was even built!) and added their own retro flair with a classic black and white color palette, Art Deco décor, and 1920s-inspired bride and groom styles. From long eucalyptus garlands to a Belgian waffle dessert bar, we love everything about how Kelly and David decorated Handsome Hollow‘s reception barn. Couple of Dudes photographed every detail of this upstate New York wedding, including a stunning post-ceremony couple session among the region’s colorful autumn trees.

The Couple:

Kelly and David

The Wedding:

Handsome Hollow, Long Eddy, New York

We choose our upstate barn venue before the barn was even built! We found the Handsome Hollow farmhouse on Air Bnb and fell in love with it. The owners of Handsome Hollow did such an amazing job restoring the old farmhouse that we trusted they would do the same for the barn. We booked 2 years in advance so we were able to follow the progress of the barn being built on social media and their blog. It was amazing!

My style inspiration was a photo of my stunning grandmother in the 50s. Although my style morphed into more of a 20s/30s vibe. I loved my hair – it was a low bun after being styled in pin curles, with finger waves. My favorite accessory had to be the glamorous white, fur stole. I loved everything about my wedding dress – it fit like a glove and the detail of the lace was amazing.

The groomsman wore skinny black tuxes. Davey had a bow tie and his groomsmen had skinny black ties which he gave them as one of their gifts.

The bridesmaids wore a dust peach tulle skirts over a little black dress. All of the skirts were the same, but I gave them free range to choose whatever dress they wanted to wear under. After the ceremony the bridesmaids ditched the skirts and had on their little black dresses for the reception.

The groom’s grandmother did the ceremony – we didn’t even go over it before hand, so we were both (happily) surprised by all of the things she had to say. We did not regret this at all – the ceremony was perfect.

Our favorite photos were taken after the ceremony when the 3 of us hiked through the woods to find a clearing surrounded by a beautiful tree line (with the trees starting to change color already). It was beautiful.

We were going for 20s/30s glam – Gatsby but not so obvious. Our colors were black, dust peach, and white. We wanted something subtle and romantic.

The most special thing on our wedding day menu was a Waffle Cabin Belgian waffles waffle bar. Waffle Cabin has a small cabin on the mountain we ski at (Straton Mountain). It’s tradition for us to always eat a delicious, hot waffle after were done skiing for the day. They were kind enough to cater our wedding dessert. We didn’t have a cake – these waffles were 100x better (and all of our guests agreed)!

Emotional Black Balsam Knob Elopement at Sunset

January 15, 2017 | Junebug Weddings

Between the tears of joy and the uncontrollable bursts of laughter, Shana and Brian’s Black Balsam Knob elopement is a beautiful example of the pure happiness that is created when best friends marry each other. The couple said “I do” in the mountains of one of North Carolina’s most beautiful parks, and then snuggled up for some incredible post-ceremony photos at sunset. The bride looked radiant in a vintage lace gown and romantic curls for the ceremony, then added some boho flair with a flower crown for the sunset portraits. Amelia Fletcher Photography beautifully captured every intimate moment between this sweet couple, particularly the emotional first look that has us reaching for the tissues!

The Couple:

Shana and Brian

The Wedding:

Black Balsam Knob, Asheville, North Carolina

Our top priority was to plan a wedding that represented us. We knew from the beginning that we wanted our ceremony to be intimate. Eloping in a city that we both had never visited was exciting and risky, but relying on our photographer and her recommendations of other professionals turned out to be the best decision we could have ever made.

For Brian, the most memorable part of the day was when he first saw me. He said he was so excited to see me in my dress and how beautiful I was. For me, it was being so overcome with emotion. After the tears started I could not stop.

After we found our officiant online, we had a Skype meeting and both fell in love. We knew we both wanted to say traditional vows. We also filled out a separate questionnaire about one another that she turned into a surprise personal love note just for us!

The best advice we could give would be to do your wedding your own way. Listening to what your partner wants and tying it into the vision makes the day even more special. Having a million opinions takes you further away from your vision and, in the end, you may regret not going with your instincts.

I have been obsessed with a fall outdoor elopement ever since I knew I did not want a traditional wedding. We love hiking and both agreed that it would be perfect to say “I do” on a mountain at sunset with a small group of friends and family. I stumbled upon Black Balsam Knob and fell in love. Since neither of us were from the area, it made it that much more exciting to embark on a new experience to celebrate our new life together.

Southern California Desert Wedding Overlooking the Malibu Hills

January 15, 2017 | Junebug Weddings

southern-california-desert-wedding-overlooking-the-malibu-hills-kindred-weddings-35

With mismatched glass accents, Moroccan rugs, and a Coachella-inspired balloon chain, Corinne and Jon’s California desert wedding is the perfect marriage of a relaxed boho vibe and elegant style. The couple made it a point to focus on the ceremony and their guests, which resulted in a day of intimacy, joy, and love. For an added element of fun, the couple hired Front Porch Pops to provide alcoholic popsicles for the adult guests (and non-alcoholic ones for the kiddos) between the ceremony and reception. The bride channeled her inner bohemian style in a sweetheart BHLDN two-piece dress and loose romantic braids.  Kindred Weddings went above and beyond to capture every romantic moment, including some incredible post-ceremony photos in the desert landscape.

The Couple:

Corinne and Jon

The Wedding:

Private Residence, Malibu, California

One of the most memorable parts of our day was our ring bearer, Jon’s nephew. He was a total rockstar! He was always nearby to hold Corinne‘s bouquet during photos or bring us a glass of water. During the ceremony, as Jon was about to break the glass, he got so excited and yelled “MAZEL TOV!” before Jon even smashed it. It was too freaking cute and had the whole crowd in happy tears.

We opted to forgo the classic wedding party and instead had an adorable procession of 5 flower girls. We also chose to honor some of their closest friends through readings from their favorite authors.

We were happy we spent time and energy planning the actual ceremony. This is the entire reason for your big day, and it often gets the least amount of thought. Make sure you have an officiant who really “gets you” as a couple – as it is one of the most intimate moments of your life. We tried not to stress too much about the china, table arrangements, and flowers because the ceremony (and of course the FOOD) are really what guests remember most.

southern-california-desert-wedding-overlooking-the-malibu-hills-kindred-weddings-13

Jon owns a company that puts up beautiful South African stretch tents at events, so we were lucky enough to have our reception under one of these gorgeous shade structures! It transformed the space and added to the relaxed, bohemian vibe.
