This Black and White Avalon Hotel Wedding is Like a Mini Vacation

June 13, 2017 | Junebug Weddings

From Avalon Hotel‘s old Hollywood glam vibes to the cocktail hour’s synchronized swimmer performance, this Palm Spring wedding channels all sorts of magic! Crystal and Gage wanted their wedding to feel worlds away from the daily grind, so they treated their 70 guests to an extraordinary evening under the California stars. The couple’s ceremony set the tone with a unity sky lantern lighting and a dramatic recessional led by a marching band, then was followed by synchronized swimmers and a jaw-dropping first dance (it was a tango!) at the reception. Crystal and Gage decorated their venue with old Hollywood-inspired décor featuring fresh lemons, tons of foliage, and a classic black and white palette. We can’t get enough of the vibrant and lively photos that Let’s Frolic Together captured of Crystal and Gage’s surreal day!

The Couple:

Crystal and Gage

The Wedding:

Avalon Hotel, Palm Springs, California

We wanted our wedding to be fun and memorable, not only for us but for each of our guests. We didn’t want a cookie cutter wedding.

My wedding day look was inspired by Silver screen starlets like Marilyn Monroe and Rita Hayworth. I loved that my dress was one of a kind and I just adored the over the top, ultra feminine bow on the back. After looking through hundreds of bridesmaid gowns, I decided to custom design my bridesmaids dresses.

First and foremost we wanted an outdoor wedding without the threat of rain. Secondly, we wanted a location that people couldn’t resist. We wanted our wedding to not only be fun for us, but we wanted it to be fun and memorable for each of our guests. Like a mini vacation! A break from everyday reality. We picked the Avalon Palm Springs because we love the Hollywood regency design style that accentuates the mid century architecture that makes Palm Springs so special.

We wanted a theme that went well with the vibe of Palm Springs. After much deliberation we chose a classic old hollywood black and white, “California fresh” theme. Think Mad Men meets Rat Pack. Black, white and foliage were our colors. When I design I have a tendency to have a feminine aesthetic so I wanted a color palette that wasn’t too girly that my husband would love.

We personalized our ceremony by lighting and sending off a Chinese sky lantern which is a traditional way of symbolizing two souls uniting.

At our reception we chose black and white stripe runners with gold accents. Lots of white votive candles so the entire setting glowed. We chose 5 different types of Roses, Hydrangeas, tulips, ranunculus, peonies, Anemone and fresh lemons. All different shades of white accented with crisp lemon leaf. We wanted our colors to be classy and classic.

You’re Not Dreaming, This Seattle Garden Wedding Really is This Pretty

June 12, 2017 | Junebug Weddings

Rachel and David wanted their Seattle wedding to be as heartfelt and personal as possible, so they threw a backyard bash in their family’s garden! With the help of Gather Events, the couple transformed their family home into a lovely summer soiree featuring live jazz, a vintage-inspired cocktail bar, and stunning DIY accents. Photographer Benj Haisch captured every detail of this Seattle garden wedding beautifully, including the gorgeous greenery-forward floral design by July Floral Design.

The Couple:

Rachel and David

The Wedding:

Private Residence, Seattle, Washington

We really aimed to plan a party that we would want to attend. We kept some traditional wedding aspects, but weren’t afraid to do away with the ones that were less important to us.

The majority of our guests were from out-of-town and we felt we couldn’t have chosen a more personal or special venue to welcome our friends and family than my family home in Seattle. Getting married in a space that is not set up as a “venue” did create some challenges, but it was totally worth it for us to be able to celebrate our marriage in such a meaningful place. We utilized every square inch of the house and garden!

The garden inspired our wedding vibe. The garden was in bloom, so we kept the wedding palette neutral allowing the florals to standout. We wanted the reception to feel like a whimsical summer garden soiree, complete with live jazz, vintage cocktails and PNW-inspired small plates.

We DIYed a few things! My mom baked our wedding desserts, designed and put together the table centerpieces, and was a major collaborator in terms of overall event design. I designed our invitations. My uncle crafted our wedding favors – lavender sachets with a personalized stamp. Everyone (sisters, parents, aunts, uncles and friends) cut and constructed a lot of bunting!

Choose a few details to focus on and trust your vendors to do the rest. We focused on décor we could assemble ahead of time and we left most of the day-of items to the pros.

Vibrant Jewel Tone Wedding at Core Cider House

June 12, 2017 | Junebug Weddings

Calling all summer brides: you’re going to love this vibrant wedding’s relaxed vibes! Sarah and Luke had their wedding at Core Cider House, a cider house that doubles as an event venue, and it all began with an emotional ceremony under the gorgeous, jewel-tone floral arbor designed by Signature Floral Design. From Sarah’s vibrant flower crown to her elegant two-piece Martina Liana gown, we can’t get enough of her bold summer bridal look. Black Bird Tale captured every stunning moment of Sarah and Luke’s day, including their enchanting couple portraits and their amazing reception’s cake table!

The Couple:

Sarah and Luke

The Wedding:

Core Cider House, Perth, Australia

I first saw my dress online, just after our engagement. Luke and I went to a bridal fair a couple of months later and I saw it in person, but couldn’t really look too much because Luke was with me. The day we went dress shopping, I booked two boutiques. The dress I’d seen months before hand was the first one I tried on. It’s a two piece and I fell in love with it straight away which was a relief after admiring it for so long. I tried on a few more dresses just to make sure, but ended up walking out about an hour and a half later with the original dress. We then cancelled the second boutique and went for a celebratory lunch. I’m so glad that I had an idea of what I thought I wanted, otherwise it could have been a very overwhelming experience. Taking people that are very honest was also helpful, I barely walked out of the change room before my mum had given me the ‘look’.

We had stumbled across the cider house earlier on in our relationship and had fallen in love with the atmosphere and feel of it. It is so relaxed, picnic blankets on the grass, share plates, and the most delicious “pith’d” cider. We wanted the down south, cider/winery, holiday feel without the hassle of the travel and that was why Core was our first and only venue choice.

Our favourite details were the flowers! They were incredible! So much colour and so vibrant. We are still getting compliments about how fantastic they were.

We also loved that our family were so involved in the ceremony. My dad was in charge of making sure I didn’t fall on my walk down the aisle. My brother, and Luke’s dad were the ring bearers, but we only asked them the morning of our wedding. We surprised both of our mums by asking them to be our witnesses during the ceremony.

I remember after the ceremony, once everything formal had been done and we were alone getting our photos taken, just taking a big deep breath and looking at my husband thinking, wow we did that. It was an amazing moment.

Our wedding advice is to make it your own and know that you don’t have to stick to a formula. We didn’t have a bridal party and left out a lot of the more traditional aspects of a wedding. At the end of the day it’s about marrying the person you want standing by your side for the rest of your life. Also, have someone at the end of the aisle with a bottle of water. You will need it.

We wanted it to feel like a big family get together. Nothing too formal but still pretty and relaxed. Cocktail reception wasn’t my first choice but in the end it worked perfectly and felt very natural. Everything was outdoors which also added to the earthiness and flow of the whole day.

All of our vendors were honestly amazing. Our photographer, Maz, and our florist, Annaliese,  are both insanely talented and went above and beyond in every aspect to make our day seamless and beyond anything we could have imagined. They are two of the nicest people we have ever met.
