Stylish Succulent Wedding at The York Manor

August 27, 2017 | Junebug Weddings

Rachel and Cody stripped down traditional wedding conventions to create a fun, minimalist summer ceremony at The York Manor. Fashionable botanic décor celebrated the bright white space with splashes of green and pastel from the potted cacti and succulents, which guests were invited to take home. The bride and groom created a low key vibe with an intimate guest list, taco buffet and plenty of margaritas to emulate a fun summer party and a completely stress-free zone. The couple was initially camera shy, but we love how Even Keel Weddings was able to put them at ease in a series of creative and unique portraits.

The Couple:

Rachel and Cody

The Wedding:

The York Manor, Los Angeles, California

Instead of flowers, we chose to decorate with handpotted succulents and cacti. As the wedding came to a close, we invited all of our guests to pick a plant (or two) to take home with them. We love that we were able to eliminate waste, as well as give guests something that they can have for many, many years.

We wanted to be practical, and eliminate traditions that didn’t suit us, or that we thought might impede on the low-key/stress-free vibe that we had envisioned. This showed in our decision to not have a bridal party, or assigned seating.

We were really so fortunate to have stumbled across such a beautiful space! Our decor decisions were about honoring the space, as well as the practicality of minimalism. We kept as much white as we could, which I think really highlighted the splashes of green and pastel from the cacti and pots. The crispness and brightness played well with the summertime bridal vibe that we were going for.

The emotional immensity of the day hit me right as the doors opened for me to walk down the aisle. This was combined with stage fright, and my walk down the aisle was very shaky and very tearful. I forgot how to walk! For me, the most memorable part of the day was when I reached Cody after a seemingly endless aisle. My nerves were immediately quieted, and my heart was calmed, and I could breathe and walk again. During the ceremony, the whole world faded out and it was just the two of us, smiling and laughing to ourselves.

My husband and I both despise posing for photos and she and Sean made it so quick and painless and allowed us to get right back to the party! She was so patient, and her calming energy quieted my bridal mania throughout the entire day. Her creativity and talent shine through in our portraits that ended up being so unique, and so true to Cody and I as people.

We wanted more than anything for our wedding to be fun. We wanted a summer party full of the people that we love most in the world. It is why we decided to have an intimate guest list and to serve tacos and margaritas. We wanted there to be good music, good food, good drinks and good friends. We felt that all the other details would sort themselves out.

There can be so much pressure and expectation when planning a wedding. I kept myself sane by having the presence of our friends and family be the only real priority. It is the one day of our lives that we can have all of the people we love most together with us, and acknowledging that brought me a lot of peace. If everything had gone wrong on the day of the wedding, and we had to serve pizzas and malt liquor next to a boom box, I really believe that we would have enjoyed it just the same. Let the details remain details!

Sunrise First Look Session at Antelope Island State Park

August 26, 2017 | Junebug Weddings

At Junebug, we believe that every first look session is a beautiful, unique reflection of the couple and never fails to leave us reaching for tissues! Autumn Nicole Photography captured Brittany and Jordan’s first look in an incredibly sweet and fun shoot at sunrise. The couple took a journey across Antelope Island National Park in the Great Salt Lake and the result is a stunning backdrop of scenic beauty, where mountains and hills overlook beaches and the reflecting waters of the great lake and surrounding islands. This remote island’s romantic moody colors and dramatic cliffs created the perfect scene for their pre-wedding shoot.

Gorgeous Gray and Green Winchester Wedding at Wright-Locke Farm

August 26, 2017 | Junebug Weddings

Amy and Joseph’s fun and relaxed outdoor wedding on Wright-Locke farm kept the day focused on love, friends and family. The couple’s art school background enabled them to use their own skills and the help of talented friends to create customized details and curate the perfect day, such as the handmade save-the-date banners and Tuesday Bassen sweetheart patches sewn into the bride’s dress and groom’s suit jacket. Floral design by friend of the couple, Luna Moss created a fresh, stylish look with lots of greenery to compliment the outdoor, summer wedding. We love how Ramble Free photography captured the lush countryside and moody forests, without taking away from the fun day.

The Couple:

Amy and Joseph

The Wedding:

Wright-Locke Farm, Winchester, Massachusetts

Joe and I met in art school, so we relied a lot of our own skills and the help of our very talented friends. We made custom banners for our save the dates, the imagery from which our graphic designer friend turned into invitations. Joe painted our ring box with flowers and our initials.

I really wanted to feel like myself and to be able to move and dance. I decided on a crop top wedding dress from Reformation that I had secretly decided I would get married in way before I was even engaged. My maid of honor was also in Reformation, her dress was the most beautiful deep green with a plunging neckline. My other bridesmaids wore charcoal dresses that were flowy and flattering on all of them.

I work at a center for children with autism, so I had invited a very special guest to my wedding, one of my students and her Mom. I have been working with this family for a very long time and so they are more like good friends and family at this point. I wasn’t sure if they were going to make it, and I was worried that the day would be too overwhelming for her. I even waited to start the ceremony because I knew that they hadn’t arrived yet. After a few minutes though, I knew we had to begin either way. After the ceremony, we recessed around some trees to go take pictures and as I rounded the corner, they were there waiting (and cheering). I started to ugly-cry because I was so happy that they could be there for my special day and I knew it was a big deal that they made it.

Our wedding colors were gray (ranging from light gray to charcoal) and green. I chose them because gray is a versatile color and I wanted to use different saturations of it in our attire and decor, and green because it was an outdoor summer wedding and I wanted lots of greenery.

The wedding was a labor of love for all of us. My favorite personal detail was a set of Tuesday Bassen sweetheart patches (mine sewn into my dress, and Joe’s sewn into his suit jacket) with custom chain stitching.

My favorite picture is the first picture that she sent me a few days after the wedding. It is a picture of us embracing in some tall, dead grass. I looked at it and said “that’s us?!” because I couldn’t believe that I was in such a beautiful picture.

Our wedding food was SO GOOD. We were catered by Ipswich Clambake Company. The passed hors d’oeuvres were: shrimp cocktail, mushroom caps with tomato & fontina cheese, and spanikopita. Our dinner was: New England clam chowder, steamed lobster, grilled steak tips, grilled chicken, marinated grilled veggies, cranberry apple feta salad, and tri-colored pasta salad. There was so much food that the next day, we were able to make huge, heaping lobster rolls from the leftover lobster meat.
