Modern Pastel Connecticut Wedding at Interlaken Inn

September 12, 2018 | juliette

Inspired by the quaint and cozy feeling of an English garden, Britton and Trevor brought together charming and romantic styles for their Connecticut wedding at Interlaken Inn. The couple, who currently live in California but both hail from Connecticut, spent almost a year finding the ideal venue that was near the water and allowed all of their guests to stay on-site. The cozy inn allowed them to exchange vows near the lake, host a cocktail hour in a garden, and throw a tent-covered reception, crossing off all their must-haves and staying in line with their English garden party vibe. The addition of pastel-colored blooms designed by Flowers by Justine and bridesmaids dresses tied the entire look together. Emily Kirke Photography captured every moment of this wedding beautifully!

The Couple:

Britton and Trevor

The Wedding:

Interlaken Inn, Lakeville, Connecticut

My dad’s side of the family is from England and, growing up, I dreamed of one day living in the English countryside. (In the 7th grade, I even put together a presentation on why my parents should send me to boarding school there!) Once we got engaged, I started putting together mood boards of magazine swipes and Instagram photos and noticed they were taking on an “English Garden” vibe — baby’s breath, romantic florals, white cotton, and a rock and roll sleek look for my husband’s suit.

We have a tradition in my family where we let off balloons in the sky to honor my brother who passed away. Trevor‘s mother passed away when he was young and we recently had a few deaths in our close circle. It was important to me that we honored our loved ones that weren’t with us, but I didn’t want our ceremony to feel sad. So instead, we had our immediate family and friends gather right before the ceremony and let balloons off into the sky, over the lake. It was such a touching moment. I hadn’t envisioned it being a photo opportunity but Emily captured the essence of the moment so respectfully. We will cherish those photos forever.

We are both very shy and were super nervous to stand up in front of all of those people and say our vows. But once we got up there, we felt so comfortable and loved having all of our friends and family right there with us for such a special moment. I couldn’t stop smiling and staring at Trevor. It was one of the moments where I felt the most present.
